Hillary's Great Service
Obama's Grace Under Fire

For those who wonder how he will fair when it starts to get hot you only have to watch CNN today.

Hillary launches a strident attack on mailers that have been used for weeks that simply quote her positions on two issues

NAFTA and Health Care Mandates. She goes completely off the edge by comparing him to Karl Rove (without attributing the author

of that note)

Obama's response: restrained, calm and reasoned. Then when the reporters try and get him to unload on Hillary Clinton by asking

him if he had lost 11 primaries in a row wouldn't there have been a roar to get him to stop his campaign. He refuses to open up

on her and letting her have it on an easy issue he takes the high road, "but that's ok. she's earned her status. . . I am the

challenger . . its up to me to knock her out . . I have to prove myself" (paraphrased don't have the script).

Graceful, intelligent and our party's new leader. Hillary should stay in as long as she can pay the bills. Without her he would

not be on CNN every five minutes. She just makes him look better and better. She is providing a great service.

8. its like a weight off my shoulders. I live in an area that was 100% for
war (near camp Pendleton) and they all thought I was crazy for all of these years and now one by one they have acknowldged in one way or another that we were right back then. If it was Hillary as the nominee they wouldn't be able to make that change.

3. Obama hasn't exactly taken the high road
He's said his opponent will say or do anything to win. That's not the high road.

Enjoy the flame you are about to thow at me and Hillary. Just remember....I don't have to vote for the guy. And I might not.

Steve

7. In the press conference today, it was totally evident.

The media half-heartedly tried to stir the $hit between Clinton and Obama with the mailer, but once he addressed the issue, they lost their desire to instigate and instead focused on other issues, wanting to know more about him as a person. What did the think about junk food and sodas in schools? What does he think of another third party run by Nader?

They are interested in what Obama thinks. I can honestly admit, this is partially due to Clinton.

She went about this in the wrong way. You can't attack likability. It only makes folks instinctively want to defend the person they like. And the media does like him; he is a charming man. So you have to attack his weak points like foreign policy, mandates vs. non-mandates, etc. Only the logical attacks aren't working that well because he's on a steep learning curve and adapting faster than her campaign can react. So she attacked his speeches (his strength) and lost that battle with plagiarism-gate.

What's left? To attack the man. And that's not going over well at all because people like him.

Who would have thought?

12. the juxtaposition was telling
she was ranting and her voice was in fact screeching, it made me a little sad to see it.

He was reserved and picked his words carefully. He did not back off from what he mailed out but didn't respond or ridicule and then

when they threw him an underhanded pitch so that he could trash her (re 11 straight victories)he refused and just played it down.

It was classy.

10. Interesting. I didn't hear the question
That makes his answer about being the insurgent make more sense. In light of the question, I think it was a gracious response.

14. Exactly.
Hillary supporters will say that Obama's response showed that he was nervous and unprepared--I call it the response of a man who refuses to engage in the same shit politics that his opponent is, and one who's a bit mystified as to why she was honored to be on the stage with him on Thursday but is now screaming "SHAME ON YOU!" on Saturday.

He was calm, cool, collected--and thought extensively about his answers to avoid making gaffes. Exactly what we need.
