"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" .
Without doubt, this primary season is the most interesting and unusual one I've witnessed in 40 years-- the last time a decision about who our nominee would be went on as long as has this year. The race is as tight as it can be (depending on who's doing the counting of pledged and un-pledged delegates), so it's entirely natural that passions are running high in both the Obama and Clinton camps. That said...

I never thought that I would live to see the day that America had a President who would make Richard Nixon look good, in comparison, but it's happened in the 85 months and 3 days since George Bush was sworn in. 'Disastrous' -- that's the adjective that most accurately describes my view of the Bush presidency. He has undermined our most basic civil liberties in the name of 'safety'. He has widened the gap between rich and poor in the name of 'prosperity'. He has alienated decades-old allies in the name of 'diplomacy'.

We now face the almost certain prospect of John McCain as our opponent this coming November, and the phrase "Meet the new boss-- same as the old boss" is particularly apt, since Sen. McCain has promised to continue the disastrous policies of the Bush administration, if elected. I don't know about you, but I am appalled at that prospect; if you're not, then you're not paying attention, frankly.

What, then, is to be done? The answer is as plain as the nose on your face, if you will but cool down and allow yourself to see it: we MUST elect a Democrat as President in November, and we MUST do everything possible to give him or her a 'filibuster-proof' Democratically-controlled Congress. Regardless who you currently support, be it Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton, you absolutely MUST understand one thing-- unless a Democrat is elected in November, the war against the poor and middle class, the assault upon the Constitution and Bill of Rights and the insane 'might makes right' foreign policy of the past 7 years will continue unabated. That's what's at stake, folks.

Sen. Clinton is not the enemy, Obama supporters, and Sen. Obama is not the enemy, Clinton supporters: the enemy has been, is and will continue to be a Republican party that has lost touch with reality. If you simply MUST consider each other as 'enemies', remember this: come November, the enemy of your enemy is your friend. America needs you ALL.

Thank you.

3. Yes, but it's contextually different.
Sen. Clinton isn't going to 'turn' on us, and neither will Sen. Obama.

10. Clinton I gave us NAFTA, and the telecom bill, and 'welfare reform'
which helped exaserbate the homeless problem, while NOT confronting the common enemy.

Why should I trust that will not happen again?

12. Possibly because the 'Clinton' running now is named Hillary, rather than Bill?
Just a thought...

2. Close enough to steal. And it will be. No matter if it is Obama or Hillary.
 They will not give up their power. Thank who? It won't matter in the end.

4. I don't agree that it will be close enough to steal, unless...
... some supporters adopt an "I'm going to take my bat and ball and go home" attitude, should their preferred candidate not get the nomination at Denver.

22. Any vote NOT for the Democratic nominee *is* a vote for McCain.
As a practical matter, that's what it comes down to.

14. We will all do as we wish. I have no problem voting for either Hillary or Barrack
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 10:52 PM by still_one
In fact I am quite proud that we have both candidates, especially when I look and see what the republcians have, more war, anti-civil rights, anti-women, anti-healthcare

The country and the party will do well with either Democratic candidate

17. Plato vs. Nietzsche on this topic
Plato: "Oh my friends, I have no friends."

Nietzsche: "Oh my enemies, I have no enemies."

If you think about it too hard it can really mess with your head, as they both knew....
