Hillary Thinks Obama displayed Some of the Worst Kind Of Tactics..Rovian Perhaps. I Beg to Differ.
Hillary seems to think that Obama's mailers are the worst kind of tactics, even going as far as calling them Rovian tactics.

I guess we should just ignore her mailer questioning his position on abortion first of all.

So It got me thinking, since this is considered the worst kinds of tactics, what is it up there with?

How bout this gem?

This one sounds happy...

How bout fearmongering

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyBpIc-O_A8

And sometimes fearmongering comes from a democrat

But Obama's Mailer are the worst kind of tactics....riiiggggghhhht. Anybody have any others?

2. Accusing others of what you're guilty of
is the most Rovian tactic of all.

5. Aren't these the folks we will supposedly be happily united with in a few months?
;)

You are right. Her statement was hyperbole but she is running a campaign. Her statement got a lot of coverage today because it was so harsh. If she had said "Obama's mailer is misleading" it would have been a blip in the news.

7. I dont think harsh statements by her work though.
Her best moments of this campaign were in NH when she found her voice and her last moment in the debate in Texas. That is when people respond to her most positively, not going negative, and this is the most she's ever been. And I go back to that abortion mailer..

11. I think she is behind the 8 ball and has to gamble
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 02:40 AM by jackson_dem
I don't think she can win simply by improving her standing alone. She needs to weaken Obama as well. This may sound bad but it is politics. Unless she does something to stop, or even reverse, Obama's momentum she is done.

12. Fair or not, she has to keep her cool in a debate though.
In front of a national audience, she cannot get as "angry" as she did today because it wont come off well at all.

The reason I put angry in quotes is unlike Taylor Marsh, I dont think this was genuine from the heart anger. I think this was a tactical move.

If Obama is smart, he will stay above it. Respond, but dont attack her first.

16. You may be right
I believe her outrage was genuine (and probably partly fueled by pent up anger at Obama, who has been hammering at her from the beginning of his campaign*, and frustration with how things have went) but her aides must have know she was steaming and let her go anyway. The thinking must be it reinforces her new underdog status and makes her the victim, which may give her some sympathy votes. Given the track record of Penn and co. you will probably be proven right!

I agree on Obama. He is the front-runner. All he has to do is not screw up. Even if he loses Ohio and Texas he won't lose by much and they aren't "must wins" for him anyway. There is no need for him to do anything risky at this point.

*There is nothing unusual about that. Everyone takes whacks at the front-runner. What causes Obama to get extra flak is he claims to be above such things.

19. Jackson I do agree that she has got to gamble
But not by following the tired political routines espoused by Penn and his cohorts.

She has to gamble by taking off the mask, by being herself. The best responses to her have been when she has been gracious, considerate and caring. The old plays are designed for male politicians of an earlier era. In this time everything you say is up on the internet for repeated examination and editing. Anything that appears false or strained to the observer can be picked up and analysed to death.

8. i find it interesting that obama's camp can't seem
to see anything wrong with his tactics. i am less thin-skinned and realize it's all a part of the game, but i've seen quite a few threads where people claim they could never vote for clinton because of her tactics. it's mind-boggling, the hypocrisy.

20. He is a politician
So are they all politicians. The thing is that Obama is playing the game under the new rules - like a QB in 1903 realising he could now use the forward pass legally. Obama is playing internet rules - not TV rules

15. Fearmongering Democrats you say? Here is another example.
“I don’t think it was by accident that Al Qaeda decided to test the new prime minister,” she said. “They watch our elections as closely as we do, maybe more closely than some of our fellows citizens do…. Let’s not forget you’re hiring a president not just to do what a candidate says during the election, you want a president to be there when the chips are down.”

-Hillary Clinton

overtime on this right now. She's going to hit a dignified and gracious brick wall of Facts when she turns the attack dog persona on him Tuesday night.
