"Bitch is the new black!"
Clearly, I have not appreciated Tina Fey sufficiently. I will do so from now on, however.

she made a good point though. isn't it strange how most successful women get labeled as "bitches"?

Of course, the term used to be sacred. Patriarchy turned it into a slur. Vote for more patriarchy.

it is totally insulting. As an Obama supporter, I can totally see how this is offensive. Since when is a woman, who gets shit done and is strong, is supposed to be called a bitch? I guess they are trying to "own" the word. Whatever.

Can't anyone see how funny this is? Do you have to support one candidate or the other to GET it?

I might as well watch Springer. Those fools sitting around in their underwear make more sense than some of the posters here. And I bet the mods feel like Steve and those other guys in the black shirts trying to keep the fools from punching each other out.

21. Did the humorectory leave a very large scar? Still in post-op recovery, eh?

They weren't "trying" to own the word. On national TV this evening, they told us all that they DID own it.

They were taking it back, defining it to suit their purposes, and slapping whiners who "don't get it" across the face with their new, improved, definition.

And then repeating it, for those who didn't get it the first time.

I am not arguing with those ladies! Bitch IS the new BLACK! Yes, ma'am, Ms. Fey, whatever you say! I trust her to get things done!

That's called being coyly disingenuous and deliberately obtuse.
Not a nice quality. Noted, too, I see!

Unless, of course, you have an excuse for it. And the only excuse that could possibly fly would be severe cognitive deficit.

the racism and all the bigots he had to confront? I would assume that since he is black he would have had some stories to tell along the campaign trail to the many blacks that attend his speeches of all the tough times he had, and how he confronted that hatred and bigotry.....Never have heard him say.....Anyone?

about the country not him.

If he opened up that can of worms - you can imagine the responses - playing the race card, sympathy card, making it about blacks instead of all colors. Not a good path.

It must be explained in his books.

24. Not real flexible with language? "Yankee" was an insult once.
"Bitch" was once an honorable title of the Goddess. Patriarchy demeaned it. Just as all things female-associated became insults. Except, of course, "virgin."

Sometimes, you take a word back.

39. I've never seen so many fresh, angry scars in my life hereabouts!!
A whole ton of people got that humorectomy operation, it seems! And they've got a LOT of post-op pain!

They dish it out like mad, but when they don't even get what they give back to them on this board, but it's handed to them instead via the television by TINA FEY, a comedian, they really show how thin skinned they are--they just can't take it at all.

If their champ goes up against McCain, this bit of lighthearted "woe" is gonna look like a walk in the fucking park! They've not a clue at what is ahead for the Democratic nominee whosoever that may be. This sort of light ribbing is like the first two minutes of pregame warm up before the championship doubleheader!

44. It's looking less and less likely every day. Your crew are burning bridges
with the vicious sexism and the blatant rudeness. The profound immaturity coupled with frankly, ignorance of the candidate's views don't help either.

When an Obama fan has to call my neighbor, a lifelong Democrat, an "old hag" because she asked what Obama's stance is on social security and he couldn't answer, I see prospects of "Unity" and "Kumbayah" after this contest ends slipping away. This lady is a lifelong Democrat, and she was crushed. Obama will never get her vote, because of a stupid fucking punk college kid at a candidate forum. And I see this EVERYWHERE. Don't ask questions!! Drink the KoolAid and be happy!

And if, by a miracle, Clinton prevails, the "youth vote" will do what they ALWAYS do--my way or the highway. They won't fucking show up. Yet you want us geezers to "believe." It's a two way street "my friend."

And now, we have Ralph Nader added to the mix--a toxic brew indeed. McCain is being battered, which gives him the "underdog" cachet to motivate the wingnuts....all I can say is, y'all better not count those chickens. The smugness is offensive, and it just might be premature.

I will be holding my nose and close to vomiting, frankly, if I have to vote for Obama--and it's because I do think that "By his supporters, we shall know him." Some people with less party loyalty than me might just stay home, or vote for "ABO--Anybody But Obama."

So don't ask me to "believe." That is PRECISELY what is wrong with the Obama campaign and Obama supporters. Believe, my ASS. Belief doesn't pay the light bill. Don't worry about facts, join the Lord of the Flies/Peter Pan club, and BELIEVE. Give me a fucking break! People who have been around for awhile know all about that "Believe!" shit.

It's party loyalty that drives my train. Obama is an uninspiring empty suit to me, with a grating INsincereity and INauthenticity that rivals his hero, Ronnie RayGun. The only thing I hope he can do is sign his name properly, to the legislation that Reid and Pelosi send to him, and not shoot off his smug mouth too readily. I pray he gets a sharp VP, like Bill Richardson, and allows Bill to pick the goddamned cabinet. Otherwise, we're fucked, because this guy has been drinking his own bathwater and actually "believes" in his own "Power of Charisma."

IMO.

Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 01:12 PM by Ava
and to think that anyone should be immune to comedy is absurd and itself sexist/racist/or whatever is the reason your are basing your opinion that they shouldn't be joked about.

fey's remarks weren't sexist.. they were making fun of sexism and how any woman of power is usually labeled a "bitch."

regardless, if you didn't like the comments and don't like the show then don't watch.. but don't attack members here that do enjoy the show and thought her comments were funny and on point.
