Politics - It's A Funny Old Campaign
Is it just me or has this been a very weird primary campaign? I'm assuming that, unless the Hillary team can pull off a miracle, Obama will be the nominee and that's fine. He wouldn't have been my preferred candidate but I think he'll probably make a decent president. But how weird is it that...

- The candidates with most actual experiance were forced out early?

- The guy with the populist message couldn't seem to buy any facetime on the news?

- The probable nominee is a guy with very little experiance. Oh, and he's young and black too.

- Who would have thought a primary contest where the candidates agree on at least general principles would get so ugly?

- To hear the right tell it, the Democratic party is dominated by the extreme-left, so how come the only guy with a genuinely left-wing message (Kucinich, the others being mainly moderates) couldn't get out of single figures?

- Last election's virtual winner didn't even endorse his running mate.

- The last candidates left would be a woman and a black guy. Granted, it shouldn't be a surprise but it is.

- One of the candidates middle names is used as a tactic.

What a truly bizarre primary.

1. Yeah, it's weird
This one is going to be in the history books. And it's not over yet.

3. Some thoughts on your points, in order
Here in the states, there is a tendency to devalue experience because it is seen as (and often, is) synonymous with corruption.

The guy with the populist message either 1) is a COMMIE!!1! or 2) will be assassinated if he wins.

Being young and black helps because white folks want an opportunity to prove they are not racists, even if they are.

This primary is especially ugly due to lingering humiliation from the Bush era.

The left (let alone extreme-left) has no voice in the party, and the centrists work hard to keep it that way. If they fought the right with even half as much energy, the extreme-right would never have gotten as far as they have.

Last election's virtual winner is a fucking pussy.

The party wants an historic candidate either way. Too bad about pitting loyal constituencies against each other while eliminating the best candidate.

Americans. Are. Stupid. Keep that in mind, and not much about our culture will surprise you.

--Hope this helped. :hi:
