So much for the "tested" I can take anything they throw at me candidate |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 03:51 AM by cali
Hillary's been saying since the onset of her campaign that she can handle anything the repubs will throw at her; then she displays anger and makes a mountain out of mole hill on national TV, over 2 flyers that don't throw anything heavy at her. Whether you think the flyers are truthful or not, they're a strong attack. They're not even close to Rovian in intent or actuality. Perhaps she's trying to fool the millions of people who haven't seen them into believing they're a dastardly attack on her. I don't know. I do know that the repukes would throw MUCH more heavy duty stuff at her if she's the nominee.
And slow. Lordy, these pamphlets have been circulating for some weeks and not just in OH. The Obama campaign has been criticizing her on her health care plan for weeks- just as the Clinton camp has been criticizing the Obama campaign on his health care plan.
I don't think this was Hillary's "Dean Scream" moment, but it edged close to that. She came off as angry and mean- the type of persona not known to attract voters. Indeed, it's the sort of persona that loses voters. Man, just imagine a McCain/Clinton race. We could have two candidates known for there tempers and mean spiritedness.
If Hillary is so battle tested, why did she act like this was some monumental attack on her? Some folks here actually think it was. That's patently not true. Others think it was theater. I think it was a bit of theatre and a large splash of desperation- a try anything to change the dynamics of the race. I don't think it will work. I believe it will backfire, and she sure didn't come off as the "tested" "battle scarred" "tough" candidate. Quite the contrary.
Just as the public doesn't want to see an angry black man as a candidate, they don't want to see an angry woman. It may be unfair, but there it is. It evokes negative stereotypes.
One thing this dem race has shown: Hillary is anything but a battle hardened, unflappable candidate, ready for anything the repukes will throw at her.

7. They put out the counter memos to the media, and have the campaign stay on message |
|
And hope that she brings it up in the debate, where he can dismiss it readily and look presidential by diverting the conversation back to the issues... ala Reagan with the whole "There you go again" sort of response.

Voters do not like angry attack like candidates. They don't like "mean". I don't think he needs to do much of anything. It will be interesting to see how the talking heads deal with her episode of yesterday.

Here she goes negative on Obama and takes what should have been a very close race and gets blown out. I swear, her campaign lives on the notion of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

4. Yes. Well-said. Whether or not the outrage and fist-shaking was |
|
real or fake (I think it was fake), it would certainly look ridiculous in the context of a general election. It looks ridiculous now--those mailers were perfectly fair and above-board, and she WAYYY overreacted to them. How is she going to react when the GOP brings up Bill's Dubai bidness millions, or Bill's alleged affairs since leaving office, or Hillary's tax returns finally being released, or the Clinton Library donor list leaking out? What, is she going to collapse in tears under a REAL nasty attack, for sympathy? Is she going to go into a true purple rage and pop an artery on camera? What's her strategy for REAL nastiness, when regular politics sends her into high dudgeon?

The more I see of her the more I am convinced she is not ready and never will be ready. Her character is much too flawed.

6. just not the word "BOON' anything but that, oh no not "BOON" who could stand up to that? |
|
and not a picture of a couple looking at their bills, That is clearly more than anyone could ever handle. How can she possibly be expected to stand up to a picture of a couple looking at their bills?
Oh, and not what Bill signed into law either, it simply is beyond the pale to expect her to stand up to that.
Anything but that, sure she can stand up to anything but those three things (and whatever else she runs up against later that is).

Here he holds a presidential-like press conference and calmly discusses why he believes everything he said is truthful. There is no raised voice and no mother knows best attitude (seriously, shame on you? pfft). He answered her mudslinging perfectly and people wonder why he's rolling along while she's floundering? Just look at how the two handled this situation.

I'm going to try and say this very carefully. I don't think Hillary is a "bitch". I don't like using words like "shrill" to describe her, but there are people out there- and lots of them, not just repukes, who perceive her that way. And episodes like yesterday's reinforce that negative image.

14. It's a stigma much like what Kerry faced, though a bit different. |
|
He was pegged an elitist right away and try as he might, he could not break that stereotype. In fact, at times it appeared he reinforced it. And while not the same as the perception Clinton carries, it just shows that perception is hard to change.
Obama, though, has the perception he's a uniter, presidential and reasonable. That is why so many people here in conservative Utah are talking about how they may vote for him.

I admire the manner in which Obama is calm and collected. Obama always speaks slowly and you can tell he thinks before he speaks and as he speaks. Hillary, on the other hand, sounds like a really intelligent person who has memorized her lines and has to get them out really fast.
Peace:thumbsup:

17. I heard excerpts of her remarks on the radio tonight. |
|
Who in the world told her to say 'Enough with the speeches and the big rallies?'
That line, no matter how she meant it, came off sounding bitter and envious of Obama. It sounded as if she was complaining that his rallies were bigger than hers!
Whoever wrote in that line tonight should be fired from her campaign immediately. It really, really made her look bad.

Take away the speeches and the rallies, and what the hell is left? Press conferences?
Obama's running for president. Is he supposed to sit home and watch the Food Network or something?
She just keeps getting horrid advice, and what's worse is she just keeps following it.

It makes her seem as desperate as she is I guess. Hillary is behind and fighting for her political life, which is okay -- but she's beginning to really turn people off.

Americans want their president to be less of a hot head than they are. We have learned from Bush that a person who gets too riled up too easily is not someone you want at the wheel. It's something we see in McCain, too. He goes from too happy to too mad.

Now Hillary's in danger of having it slapped on her. Not good for her. Honestly, I think she may have lost Ohio yesterday and could be in for a 4 contest loss on March 4. I'm hoping so. That would be an end to all this.
