Who is Charlie Johnson and why is his name displayed on my phone?
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 07:15 AM by PCIntern
Since we're in PA, and the campaign here has not yet begun, (should it get this far) I thought I'd begin what will almost certainly turn out to be another contentious day here with some righteousness.

I was attempting to troubleshoot my AT&T cordless phone when I ran across this question which appears in my subject line. Intrigued, I scrolled down to the answer which read in its entirety:

Solution(s)
If you see Charlie Johnson displayed on your telephone product, it is very likely there is a protective sticker covering the display. This sticker should be removed once you start using your AT&T product.

***************************************************

So I got to thinking...even the phone company, or what used to be known as the phone company, is carefully parsing its words. That perhaps you in fact DID receive a call from one "Charlie Johnson" and that they do not want to be held liable for missing said call. Perhaps Charlie's calling from, say Publishers' Clearing House about your 15 Million Dollar Award, or from Harvard to inform you of your daughter's acceptance. (Note that I did not write "son's" acceptance, so the PC police here wouldn't tear me apart for 77 posts).

I suppose we all have to be so careful of what we say and do and imagine being a candidate for the Presidency where the slightest sniffle, movement of the eyes, gaze at a watch (yes remember that from 1992?) can change everything.

It is remarkable that anyone can survive this absurd process, but they do...I just hope that we, here at DU, can say the same.

Yes, I paraphrased that from Hillary Clinton's closing comment of the last debate. Now we're forced to annotate every nuance of our speech, as the great George Bernard Shaw did not say.

Have fun today, folks, keep it clean and no hitting below the belt...break when I say break, and have a good clean fight. Now touch your gloves.
