1. What used to be called
A smoke-filled back room deal. Calling it "brokered" makes it sound more on the up and up.

10. The nomination will NOT be decided in a smoke filled room!
Smoking is probibited in the convention center.

2. If no one has the required number of delegates to win the
nomination going into the convention., you have a brokered convention.

3. and then what happens?
should be cut and dry, whoever has the most delegates wins, this brokered convention seems that delegates don't matter.

8. The majority, not just the most. The nominee must get 2025.

9. In a nutshell...
Neither candidate can come up with the 2025 required delegates, so dealing begins. Delegate holders begin floating names of potential candidates until one person can come up with enough support to gain the 2025 needed. Voters are left out of the system and you basically get the candidate that 2025 people can agree on.

7. At the Convention, a first round ballot is taken.
If neither Obama nor Clinton receive 2025 of the delegates, they release ALL delegates, Pledged and Super and vote again.

This is when the brokering occurs. Calls are made, deals are worked out, and the delegates work together to chose the strongest candidate and it could be anyone, who ever they think will win.

With two candidates the only way one will not receive a majority on the first vote is if some delegates sit out, or if it is so close that Edwards' 26 delegates prevent it. Very unlikely for either scenario.

13. 1952.
It would have most likely been brokered in '68 had Robert Kennedy not been gunned down.
