You know you won when Maddow whines: this debate was the death of enthusiasm, grim" |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 08:55 AM by robbedvoter
I had been away and didn't get the chance to watch the first showing and just got the MSGOP damage control attempts. I got from their attitude that Hillary scored big - but it was Maddow's (Obama groupie) proclamation that "McCain won this one" that convinced me how well Hillary did. After that, i watched the rerun and was impressed. My favorite part? When Ruslut tried one of his "gotchas" with her promise to deliver 200,000 jobs to Buffalo and she replied: "I was counting on Al Gore being in the WH - someone who shares my philosophy about growing the economy" And it's good that she remarked on the always "first question to her" and the SNL skit reality. Obama is always given the last word and the chance to merely react to her answers: "I completely agree" "I disagree". Same on CNN & all the other debates. One gives the answers, the other reacts. So, sorry Rachel - no balloons, no streamers - but some information for the voters. Before your infatuation, when you were a journalist you would have actually appreciated this.

complementary side-leaning but old timmy put a smack on it saying--well you know Bo had to be seen as uniting the party-he couldn't go negitive too much.blah bhah. then he seemed ticked at a comment by clinton always going first --saying she likes to first she likes to answer questions--not saying that they were goood as i recall.

"Gee, this was a really negative debate, and that negativity might dampen Democratic enthusiasm" as a good thing for Hillary.

MSGOP tell me - as we cannot reveal the secret that BO is black to the voters. Unless he runs in SC.

8. She needed to deliver a knock out blow, and just like last week |
|
she didn't. Don't be surprised to see Obama continuing his ascendency in the polls over the next few days, and don't be surprised to see him win both OH and TX. That's the way it's headed.

11. I heard that spin from MSGOP - set the standard high for her, low for him - and still |
|
can't say he won this debate. I remember when MSM used to do the same for W.

13. Not having TV, I don't depend on the MSM for information |
|
I listen to CBC, BBC and programs like "On Point" on NPR. I read. I also understand what an underdog has to do to gain momentum. You obviously don't. And perhaps you watch too much TV.

15. Actually, I watch very little. I had tuned in MSGOP to check on ther debate |
|
as I came home late and I wanted to catch a rerun. nevertheless, I am astounded to what extent threads here are talking points from the MSM - which I also get mostly here and on Media Matters. For instance, someone posted here "Hillary reminds every man of his first wife" - I then saw that both Pat Buchanan and Mike barnicle made statements to that effect. You may not have been exposed to the spinfest directly, but it does make its way in the stream of consciousness and one fonds oneself spouting memes without knowing their origin. FYI, when I turned on MSGOP, it was the first statement I heard there. then I noticed the grim faces. the damage control mode. Rachel Madow capped it with her "death of enthusiasm" - yeah, where are the good ol' days when we talked about prayer and DK's flying saucers?

9. Maddow's comments simply signified the absolute truth that this "race" is becoming petty and |
|
wearying.. that the only thing occuring now is that we are beating a dead horse.. democratic voters have seen TWENTY debates. Nothing is being served by continued smears and attacks and Hillary trying on a new face every day, trying a new attack to sully the eventual nominee, and further attacking the millions of voters who are turning out and trying to stifle their enthusiasm. Yes, in that continued scenario of slogging through the quicksand, McCain wins.
Why we, as a party, are encouraging her to continue and agreeing that she has any hope of winning, is political suicide for the party. But Hillary won't give up.. she'll fight on no matter who or what she has to destroy. Her ego will not allow her to admit there is a new generation, a new era of american politics emerging that does not include her brand of negativity and destructive campaigning.
Hillary is Huckabee on steroids. Maddow is right: Last night was an exercise in futility and McCain won - because democrats will not stand up to the Clinton Machine and Just Say No.

10. Or her beloved didn't get to shine - it was a good debate - substantial, on the issues |
|
far better than the early ones where DK was asked about flying saucers and all candidates "if they pray". But for Maddow - these were the good ol' days of enthusiasm...

12. CNN drew straws for who whould go first in their debate. Obama |
|
won the draw and chose to go second. Wonder why he did not want to go first in that debate, when he had the chance? Hillary was only speaking the truth and by Obama's choice of going second on CNN, well........you figure it out.

then she is bright enough to know Hillary did indeed win the debate.
She's been (like all of Air America) incredible Clinton bashers.
I wouldn't say Hillary trounced Obama --but she did everything she needed to do, and Obama at best didn't soul his pants.

with the depth of his soul. A little Freudian typo sometimes brings out the truth.

22. I know you'll spin anything for Hillary, but it's diffcult to spin the debate as a win for her. |
|
She did not succeed in what she needed to do, although she tried with those bizarre comments about pillows and the heavens opening up.
She needed to change the tide and it didn't happen.

24. This was not a DEBATE by any standard rules |
|
A debate asks the same questions of each candidate, with set periods for rebuttal. They could have used this format at least since the field was narrowed to two, if not to three. But they don't. This was like an extended session of "Meet the Press", with Russert's arcane quotes, gotcha moments, and trying to assail each person on her or his weakness.
It would be fascinating to see an actual debate for once.
