Debate fashion review
I can't help it--in my defense, I was sleepy--during the debate I tuned out what they were saying and focused on how they looked

Clinon's beautifully done hair and makeup made her look years younger. My only quibble with her makeup was that her makeup person had put a dark eye shadow in that crease over her eyelids giving her at times a weird double-eybrow look. The dark brown suit flattered her, but I think softened her image too much--perhaps something in a more classic dark blue would have been better and given her a more powerful look. The pearls were classic.

Obama wore the expected dark suit, white shirt, and blue tie--the classic politician's outfit, but it does flatter him. He needs to have his suits fitted better, though, as he was showing considerable gap at the collar.

1. Kinda like Nixon / Kennedy
Hillary was shiny and loud
Obama was cool and thoughtful

Then again, I'm admittedly partial to Obama
and that's the way in came across on HD

2. His Suit Fit Fine
Suit collars will often do that when someone is sitting. I also thought when the camera was behind them her outfit was very unflattering.

4. Suit collars do often do that
But they're not supposed to. He needs a good tailor.

I thought Hillary's outfit was flattering, just not very powerful.

8. He should stop wearing pleated pants too
He's definitely skinny enough that he can wear flat fronted pants with no problem and they look a lot better.

10. Those collars get screwed up when you sit down
Maybe Obama needs to use that broadcaster secret where you pull your jacket and shirt down over your rear and sit on it. It keeps everything smoothed out. Sen. Clinton looked really good. The only change I would make is to go for a navy or darker blazer just b/c it films better. I'm sure these candidates will take time to read this post to listen to my fashion advice. :)

17. Sorry, You're Just Wrong
I managed men's clothing stores for years, specializing in custom made clothing, and had some of the finest tailors in the world work for me. His suit fit properly.

Because of the waist of her jacket being so tapered at the waist, her "derrière" looked huge from behind.

18. Well, I guess we'll have to disagree then
His suit jacket gapped where it should not have and I liked her jacket.

32. So your opinion counts and mine does not?
Whether or not Hillary's suit flattered her is purely a matter of opinion and I'm sorry you don't recognize classic prole gap in the fit of a suit.

3. they both looked great
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 09:07 AM by paperbag_ princess
I liked Hillary's suit. It was classic and conservative. She looked beautiful. I thought it was much better than the black suit with the yellow trimmed collar that she wore last time.

I don't like women in yellow...it is just a weird color to wear for a professional. She wears it a lot though, she must like it.

edit to add: I don't like men wearing yellow either...I don't think that I have ever seen a politician doing that though

6. I wonder if yellow was chosen by an image consultant
I'm wondering if somewhere out there isn't an image consultant who decided Hillary was a "spring" and stuck her in yellow.

Certain colors--yellow, pink, some shades of green--are unflattering to almost everyone. Also, some colors such as bright red and navy blue are perceived as more powerful. That shade of brown Hillary was wearing last night flattered her, but also softened her.

Yellow is just a bad color for a man but a yellow tie works with a navy blue suit...

5. As an Obama supporter I must say HRC does look wonderful. I don't
know how she does it with the schedule. Her makeup and hair are perfection, the hair is cut to maintain the hectic schedule and lots of moisturizer is doing its job. I wish she would stop looking so peevish, it takes away from her very attractive look...

7. I loved Sen. Clinton's makeup
I'm an Obama supporter - but I'd love to know her makeup secrets. She looked great and her skin looked smooth and clear. I wish my skin looked like that.

and fully aware people will scream SEXIST, I'd love to know how she did her makeup. She looked simply beautiful.

she uses a mineral make up.

The non-reflective powders do wonders on camera.

16. I swear this is not meant to be nasty, but
has she had work done? She looks fabulous, but doesn't have that Liddy Dole space alien look. I've seen earlier pictures with the wrinkles most of us of a certain age have and now her skin is wrinkle free. There's nothing wrong with this - this is not a slam. I genuinely would like to know Hill's beauty secrets.

28. I thought both looked fine. Obama wears as much makeup as Hillary so his artist deserves credit, too
We're lucky to have two good looking candidates, each with great makeup artists to make them look so good in order to win elections. This will be important when the winner heads into the General Election because it's going to take considerable effort to make our candidate look good enough to compete with John McCain in the looks department.

But I like that Hillary looked xtra sharp last night with her brown suit and a I do belive she has a new make-up artist which explains her different look. It's finally nice to find this almost positive thread at DU that does not bash her to death. I think she is a down to earth person and there's more to her than being "shrill". Whatever happens to her in this election, she's going to be fine.

31. I thought Hil looked great in that suit.
The soft pattern in it really enhanced her eyes She couldn't have looked better and I really liked the gold earrings with the pearls. Good as she looked, Obama outshone her. And, it wasn't because of what he wore.
