Why McCain Wins if Hillary Stays In
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 10:05 AM by K Gardner
There have been several interpretations of Rachel Maddow's comment last night that "McCain won" the debate. Here's my take and, at the end of the two-hour trudge, I must say I felt the same. To think there would be yet another week of dizzying punditry, of Ballot Bowls and Hardball Magic Numbers, of spinning and jockeying and waiting for the next attack that would need to be parried.. well, it was enough to make one enthusiastic lifelong democrat cringe.

Maddow's comments simply signified the absolute truth that this "race" is becoming petty and wearying.. that the only thing occuring now is that we are beating a dead horse. Democratic voters have seen TWENTY debates. Nothing is being served by continued smears and attacks, by Hillary trying on a new face every day, trying a new attack to sully the eventual nominee, and further attacking the millions of voters who are turning out. There is nothing to gain by trying to stifle their enthusiasm. Yes, in that continued scenario of slogging through the quicksand, McCain wins.

That we, as a party, are encouraging her to continue and agreeing that she has any hope of winning, is political suicide. But Hillary won't give up.. she'll fight on no matter who or what she has to destroy. Her ego will not allow her to admit there is a new generation, a new era of American politics emerging that does not include her brand of negativity and destructive campaigning. This is not just about the numbers or mathematical probabilities. It is about ushering in a new Democratic Majority that can and will last for decades, that can and will repair the damage that the "moral majority" has inflicted upon it.

Maddow is right: Last night was an exercise in futility and McCain won - because democrats will not stand up to the Clinton Machine and Just Say No.

I, for one, am finished. Hopefully the party will come to its senses and Hillary will come to hers. I will continue to campaign and work for the eventual nominee, the Senator from Illinois, Barack Hussein Obama. And I think I am only one of probably millions of voters who are ready for this primary race to be over. I'm ready to stand beside Senator Obama, face McCain and the right wing, and take back my country. I pray Hillary will get out of the way and allow us to do that. One week more. It seems like an eternity.

Edited to remove an analogy that was inflammatory

5. The analogy was not to personality or message, but to the effect on party, but your
point is taken. Thanks and edited.

4. "Hillary is Huckabee on steroids"
Okay... I have a string of words running through my head in response to your garbage. Instead of posting them I am going to walk away from your ignorance permanently.

DU has indeed become an Anti-Dem cesspool.

I think posting that a good Liberal Senator is the same as a crazy zealot RW minister is shameful and against the rules.

6. Actually, if the Democratic primary continues - and I truly hope
it's over next Tuesday, don't get me wrong - McCain loses because he's "disappeared." He's so far out of the spotlight you barely hear a word about him. Who's he going to debate? Himself? It's like he's on ignore until there's a Democratic candidate.

9. Or, he sits back and lets Hillary and her supporters do his dirty work for him, which
is exactly what is going on right now. Correct, McCain is not getting much coverage, but that in itself is not a bad thing for him. It buys him more time while we destroy our own best chance and hope. I too hope its over next Tuesday ! :hi:

Its been a good race, you played hard, but the end reality just has to set in, I'm afraid.

Nice knowing you, Senator Obama. Give it another go in 2016. :hi:

11. Sensationalism over substance
Clinton is playing 3 card monty, just like Bush. Throw it out there and see what sticks.
Thankfully it is not working.
