Politicians like Dodd, who endorse at this point in time, are nothing but balless bandwagon jumpers
...probably looking for some future political favors, especially when they wait until there is what they consider to be a clear winner in the making.

What took him so long to decide? I mean, the guy has only had 7 weeks to make up his mind since dropping out of the race in early January. Clearly he must have known who he preferred back then, too.

If you're going to endorse someone, make it meaningful and put your ass on the line by doing it before anyone is a clear front runner, or don't endorse at all. This waiting around to see who's going to win before they endorse someone is for self-serving wimps.

Granted, if he had endorsed the candidate who was looking like the loser, then maybe you could say his endorsement was from the heart, but waiting this long to endorse the obvious frontrunner pretty much tells you about why he's doing it at all.

Now don't think for a minute that I feel that Dodd's endorsement will matter. His endorsement of Obama will have no more effect on Obama's outcome than Hulk Hulgan's endorsement will.

These politicians like Dodd are a joke when it comes to endorsements. Here they are, making a pretty good living in politics all their lives, and they can't figure out who they like as a candidate until someone is clearly a front runner?? I mean, he's been out of the race for 7 weeks!

If Dodd couldn't figure out at least a month or so ago who he was going to endorse, then why even bother endorsing anyone at this juncture in time. Jayeeesus.

1. Would you have said the same thing if he'd endorsed Hillary when she was the front-runner?

6. If Hillary was way out in front, and Dodd endorsed her at this point in time....
then I would fully expect ANY of Obama's supporters to say the same thing I'm saying now.

No chirps about it :)

14. Of course they would. But would YOU?
The point is that every time somebody endorses the opposing candidate, the supporters of the other candidate always come up with some reason why the endorser, whom they previously liked, is now an idiot or a tool. Kind of like why the great Dem hero Ted Kennedy is suddenly a silly old nitwit.

It's ALL about whose ox is being gored.

Is that supposed to be some sort of feeble effort to get back at me for posting this about Dodd?

Nice try...

in the position of hurting an old friend. Kennedy and Kerry waited for their good friends Biden and Dodd to drop out before they endorsed Obama.

It's called C O N S I D E R A T I O N.

And Dodd, at this point, is probably also signaling to Clinton in a polite, political way that it is time to Move On.

4. C'mon Man
It's all in the timing. You endorse a week before a big contest so the candidate gains somthing. Maybe he just wants to see Obama win.

5. Way To Rationalize...
He's a party elder, like Ted Kennedy, and more and more SD's are going to be doing do the same. Face reality, no amount snarky posts on a message board are going to postpone the inevitable. Hillary has lost. Face it.

7. Dodd is much smarter then that. This was the first of a series of messages to Hillary-
The timing was very deliberate. They are gently moving her towards stepping down- as carefully as possible. It must have been a shock for her to hear this from him and he stated that it was not an easy call, given his close ties to the Clintons. This was the first I believe, of a series of major endorsements to come- probably before Tuesday.

I feel for her- believe me I do. She would have been an excellent President in many ways but the writing is on the wall here and the longer it takes for her to "get the message", the more damage she has the potential to do to her future political life.

From Maureen Dowd this morning (a bit overstated perhaps but there's truth to her words):
"The fact that Obama is exceptionally easy in his skin has made Hillary almost jump out of hers. She can’t turn on her own charm and wit because she can’t get beyond what she sees as the deep injustice of Obama not waiting his turn. Her sunshine-colored jackets on the trail hardly disguise the fact that she’s pea-green with envy.

After saying she found her “voice” in New Hampshire, she has turned into Sybil. We’ve had Experienced Hillary, Soft Hillary, Hard Hillary, Misty Hillary, Sarcastic Hillary, Joined-at-the-Hip-to-Bill Hillary, Her-Own-Person-Who-Just-Happens-to-Be-Married-to-a-Former-President Hillary, It’s-My-Turn Hillary, Cuddly Hillary, Let’s-Get-Down-in-the-Dirt-and-Fight-Like-Dogs Hillary."

13. Me too, Oh well, at least Kerry & Kennedy didn't wait until there was a clear frontrunner
like Chris Dodd did, so their endorsements are at least sincere.

Obambi

10. Many of these endorsements were secured long ago...
...and the campaigns roll them out at strategic times--when they will pack
the most punch.

Don't think that Dodd decided a few days ago, that he wanted to go with Obama.

Dodd has most likely, been waiting in the wings for a while--until the Obama
campaign gave him the 'go' signal.

A coveted endorsement from a stalwart Dem Senator--made a few hours before an
important debate--was obviously timed.

Both campaigns do this.

12. Actually, it did take balls to be the first former candidate to endorse Obama
and it took dinosaur-sized balls to call Hillary the night before to tell her what he was going to do and why.

If you want to see a politician without balls, I can think of some better examples still sitting on the sidelines.

and if they endorse whoever the clear winner appears to be when they do it.

31. Were any of them high-profile Senators who endorsed the frontrunner in the last few days?
No they weren't. Next time try reading the OP before you paste your lists. Hope that helps...

32. How about those "high profile" politicians who endorsed her when she was clearly going to win?
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 10:45 AM by Buzz Clik
That would be every endorsement prior to the very day of the Iowa caucus.

You've got nothing, mtnsnake, but a belly full of anger. As usual.

34. Nah. He doesn't give a shit whether Obama or Clinton wins; he's just trying to get Hillary out
so we can move on.

36. I'd like to think that Dodd is trying to set the stage for re-unifying the party.

It's been a divisive campaign. Soon, it will be time to make nice.

35. Senator Dodd is an honorable man. Fuck you.
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 11:03 AM by NJSecularist
Is there any good senator that the Hillbots won't insult in their quench for the nomination?

John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, now Senator Dodd.

Shame on you. They have all done much more for progressive values than you will ever. Shame on you.

40. When people start talking negatively about good senators, I'm going to say something.
I'm tired of the same usual suspects ragging on the best liberal senators we have: Senator Kennedy, Senator Dodd, Senator Kerry.

37. I agree it is kind of late. Especially for a Senator from Connecticut.
Connecticut already voted a while ago. Was it Super Tuesday?

It would be different if Dodd was from one of the States that didn't vote yet.

44. So by your logic...
...if Edwards now endorses Obama, he's a "balless (sic) bandwagon jumper". If, on the other hand, he endorses Hillary (as she is no longer the front runner), Edwards would be... what? A hero? A visionary?

It sounds as if you have a standard set to make it a no-win scenario for Obama. If someone endorses him, they are simply jumping on the bandwagon. If someone endorses her, WOW, isn't that WONDERFUL!

Nice framing there mtnsnake!

46. "Change you can believe in" = same old politics
That's what gets me about the Obama thing. Everyone seems to think he will upend Washington, but he's playing the same game as everyone before him. That's why I've been with Hillary, I have no illusions that she is not a politician, and why not go with the one who's been there and done that.

51. Notice lots of people in the news are agreeing today
especially about the latest one to switch from Hillary to Obama, civil rights icon Representative John Lewis (D-GA).

I've heard several analysts apeaking the same sentiment...that it takes no courage for someone to endorse or switch loyalties from one candidate to another so late in the game and when the one that they're switching to is clearly the front runner.
