According to the LOS ANGELES TIMES....BOTH Democrats are losing to McCain
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 01:59 PM by Horse with no Name
And it doesn't really matter who is losing worst...there are no prizes given for the best loser.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-poll27feb27,0,5452138.story

In head-to-head contests, the poll found, McCain leads Clinton by 6 percentage points (46% to 40%) and Obama by 2 points (44% to 42%). Neither lead is commanding given that the survey, conducted Feb. 21-25, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The Arizona senator is viewed favorably by 61% of all registered voters, including a plurality of Democrats.

The survey showed that McCain's potential advantages extend even to domestic issues, where he is considered to be most vulnerable. Even though McCain has joked about his lack of expertise on economic issues, voters picked him over Obama, 42% to 34%, as being best able to handle the economy. However, Clinton led McCain on that issue, 43% to 34%.

"I just think he's older, he's more experienced, and he's got the betterment of the country in mind," said Robert Fear, 79, a registered Democrat from Newton, Ill., who said he planned to support McCain in November.

Edited for mistake. I thought it was JUST California. Turns out it is the entire country. :eyes:

6. I'm really not worrying about the current national polls at this moment
When we have our nominee, then the fireworks will start. McCain is going to take a pummeling. There's so much to point out about him, after all. He better enjoy what might be his honeymoon period right now. This will be his only one.

Keep the faith!

41. see i find this a bit discomforting
you say there's so much to point out about mccain that he'll take a pummeling. there's no evidence to support that.
bush had much higher negatives and still managed to get a 2nd term. the thing about candidates like mccain who have been around forever is that all their negatives are known prior to them getting the nomination. mccain is hated by the wingnut faction of the gop, and yet he's cruising to the nomination, and is at the moment leading in the national polls. now what exactly is going to torpedo him that hasn't already been vetted. if obama is going to be the next president he's going to have to go thru the media shitstorm withour losing his supporters, both the youth vote and the conservative democrats. i fear it's a more treacherous path for obama than for mccain.

46. bush got a second term because the election was stolen from kerry
that's my position on that given what happened in ohio and florida in '04.

one negative that will be driven home about mccain is his recent statement about staying in iraq for 100 years. in a general election, that will get much more play in greater depth. and many people still don't know about his past. he's got political skeletons.

i do understand your concerns. but i have faith that we can prevail. even though i believe republicans will hold their noses and vote for mccain. i see obama as a candidate who has the kind of poise that will glow during debates. he's going to contrast well with mccain's nastiness. you know how snarky mccain can be. that sort of personality doesn't play well against someone like obama who has so much confidence.

getting back to stolen elections - one thing that impressed me about obama was during one of the earlier primaries. his organization hired a slew of attorneys to fan out statewide and monitor voting sites to make sure there weren't any obvious shenanigans. this was nothing like kerry and his promises to keep a watch on what was going on. the obama campaign has therefore drawn a line in the sand. right away, they've let the republicans know that we are watching from the get go. it's really the "best we can do" concept in action.

this isn't a time for sitting back on any laurels and presuming all the hard work has been done. the day we have our nominee is the day to put on a pot of strong coffee, roll up our sleeves and get to work, whoever the nominee - and i mean that sincerely.

8. Outlier poll
More rigft-wing LA times crap. McCain is not going too look good after several months of Obama punches to the gut. Even if you take this as a true snapshot in time, Obama is only going up and McCain down. Look at the numbers of how many dems vs pubs are coming out in the primaries. This will not change.

22. How do you "massage" poll numbers?
The poll is a random sample, sometimes weighted by turnout models.

You think the repubs mail a list of turnout estimates to all the major polling companies and say "psst, use these proportions...it'll help us in the fall..."

god save us from conspiracy theorists.

34. I honestly believe
that this election cycle has disenchanted a chunk of the Democratic base. There are "stories" all over...in person, on the internet, wherever people are communicating about the arrogance of this campaign.
This primary season was way too long.
Enemies have been made, battle lines have been drawn.
Nobody likes to pick the wrong candidate. The in-your-face smears, degradation, false accusations and outright lying of BOTH remaining campaigns has put a high price on the results. Self Pride.
After 2000 and the republicans calling us "sore loserman" and the 2004 meme of "get over it"...the climate was ripe.
People were already angry. Add two stolen elections, the poor leadership of Pelosi and Reid, the Libby pardon, etc. and you have a Democratic base that has been through some bad times.
Add that to a Media who REFUSED to give equal time to ALL of the candidates--thus choosing for us THIS particular moment in time.
Good candidates that have dropped by the wayside because they couldn't get the needed traction because of a media blackout and now we have this. The perfect storm of a neglected base who have probably already been through supporting a candidate or two who have watched their present candidates drug through the mud.
We've NEVER fucking drug the republicans through the mud like ours have been drug.
And what we have left standing is a candidate who doesn't want to be called liberal and basically wants to keep the base at arms-length.
Make no mistake, he WANTS our vote...but he wants it unconditionally.
He is ONLY extending his hand to the people ACROSS the aisle...blindly thinking the people that are standing behind him will stay.
That remains to be seen, but I sure wouldn't count on it unless he starts recognizing the base as his party too.
What I FEEL happening is the same thing that I felt after bush was selected. He is THEIR president...not mine.

All the polls posted by the obamatrons that show him beating Hillary are the only "reliable" polls?

But I do remember quite a few folks around here touting that ONLY obama can beat McCain--and posted polls to "prove" it.
