1. You're kidding, right?
Nothing's going to stop it now. It will have to run its course, made worse by the terrible policies of BushCo.

And the next Democratic president will get blamed for the whole stinkin' mess.

5. help
When you think about it, it will be about a year until an Obama-style stimulus would be enacted, and it's kind of scary to think what might happen in the economy in the meantime. I don't have a lot of confiedence, but I wish Bush luck in his monetary policy, stimulus and respondse to the debt crisis. God help us.

11. It's depressing, but there is some hope..
Clinton inherited the Reagan/Bush mess and managed to turn things around pretty well. Yes, the Repugs blamed him for their own doo-doo but there are quite a few people in this country who have eyes to see and ears to hear. They have to be noticing that things somehow seem to go worse for them when a Republican is president (and even WORSE when they also have a Republican Congress).

15. Carter
Carter was CRUCIFIED for the economic hangovers brought on by GOP war and spending policies of the '70's.

16. Yep. Fool me once, shame on you...
Or, you can't fool all of the people all of the time?

Fingers crossed on that one.

2. How long before he could enact it?
I think there will be a boost in consumer confidence if a Democrat wins the GE but economic indicators look terrible right now.

3. no
Because right now he is 1 Senator and he cannot get his plan through Congress untouch or dramatically unchanged.

Also when he is President, his plan will carry more weight but the same thing holds true, Congress will change the details.

Next question.

6. Not even a miracle from Jesus could probably avert it, if he does, rename him messiah.

The GOP have designed it for Dems to take the blame for the looming crisis, hopefully Barack's chrisma can overcome the heat he will take for it and get us another term.

7. From everything I have read, there is no stopping it now.
If you have credit card debts, now would be a great time to start paying them down.

Try to save as much money as possible, and if you have money in stocks, take them out and invest in gold.

Economists are predicting that gold will skyrocket to over $2 thousand an ounce. It's already at an alltime high.

12. Not after his "friends" across the aisle put in their demands. And you can be
sure that the Congressional Dems will not fight real hard to keep it "progressive" enough to have any real effect.

13. No, the problems we face will not be fixed by Obama's or Hillary's plans.
They are too severe.... hopefully both can work to lessen the blow and speed the recovery.

17. I don't know. I feel like any democrat is in for a rough ride with the economy at first
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 05:50 PM by Political Heretic
Even if it was Hillary Clinton, and she turned out to be absolutely right about her experience and being the best choice and all of that - any president is going to be successful in significant part based on the people picked to surround her/him.

Whoever is the nominee, I will be very, very interested in getting to know her/his cabinet, chief of staff, and political advisor's. They are going to be a pivotal part of any strategy to fight off the looming depression.

Hopefully, either candidate enjoys congressional gains for a solid democratic majority in both houses - that will greatly assist in getting good things done quickly, which will greatly increase the chances of minimizing economic trouble.

18. Nope. The problems are so huge.
And the recovery will be long, since so much has moved offshore.
