2. He has terrible posture and is perpetually rumpled-looking.

A veep has to look well turned out.

Besides, he voted for the Military Commissions Act which did away with Habeas Corpus.

16. Ugly as he is, Cheney is generally well-dressed.
WWII memorials to the contrary, notwithstanding!

Solid choice and a good fair trader
He has 15 years of experience in Congress so he isn't inexperienced. If it isn't going to be Edwards I would like us to go with someone from Ohio or Florida, assuming we still have a shot at Florida. If our nominee disenfranchises Florida at the convention we will have surrendered the fourth largest state to McCain. Then we are left with the choices of Brown or Strickland from Ohio. Bob Graham is probably the best pick. He has executive experience as a governor and national security credentials via the intelligence committee when he was in the senate.

21. In 2004, we didn't get the electoral votes of these states
OH 51-49
FL 52-47

Ohio was closer, and I think that putting someone from Ohio on the ticket would get us Ohio's electoral votes.

We could lose Florida even with Bob Graham on the ticket.

24. Yes but in 2000 the opposite was true
Florida was a cliffhanger while we lost Ohio by 4-5. What they should do is look at their polling and see if we are running better in Ohio and Florida, assuming we retain our slim hold on Pennsylvania and Michigan. If we are trouble in PA and MI we may need someone from those states. If Ohio and Florida are about equal and we are still leading slightly in PA and Michigan we should opt for someone from Florida simply because FL has 7 more electoral votes than Ohio, equivalent to Iowa.

26. If we can't win Michigan without someone from there on the ticket,
...then we can't win in 2008 at all.

28. It depends on what happens at the convention
Ordinarily I would agree with you but if Obama wins the nomination and insists on not seating the Michigan delegation then we will probably lose Michigan. If he does that he will also do the same for Florida so we would need someone from Florida to even have a shot. Basically we can't win unless we win three of the big four swing states: Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan. A lot of people talk about Missouri and to a lesser extent Colorado, Minnesota, and Wisconsin but the real big swing states are FL, PA, OH, and MI.

to have on the ticket , especially for a run against McCain when he trots out his "I'm a war hero" spiel.

I think there is more potential to swing Ohio through the VP nominee.

23. No - it's going to be someone with executive and/or top-notch foreign policy creds
Bill Richardson is an obvious choice for a bunch of reasons. It's not (hopefully) going to be a Senator (unless that person also has executive/foreign policy creds).
