Obama advertising on right wing racist Radio WLW (Home of Bill Cunningham) |
|
I'm voting for Obama; but why is he advertising on the king of Cincinnati racist radio stations? It's real shameful how the host call him names and than his commercial comes on saying the opposite.

If you need to get your message out, sometimes you need to wade into hostile territory.

4. Exactly. Back when I lived in Ohio - there wasn't a left station. |
|
And sadly - at that time, Billo was considered Fair and Balanced. Please don't egg me, but it was a strong opinion then. I moved away from there 5.5 years ago - I pray a lot has changed since then.

8. Same in Iowa - ClearChannel owns most of the big AM stations |
|
It was so odd to hear an Edwards ad in the middle of Limbaugh. Oddly there are those like me who do listen to kind of keep an eye on the opposition and for the huge laughs I get when they twist even a simple concept such as a blue sky.

16. yes, and further, why does RUSH Pimplebutt get so much air time? |
|
the biggest problem is that right wingers dominate the airwaves, at least on certain channels, so if people only get those channels, they only get that crap.
My neighbor listens to AM all day, and she is brainwashed by Rush Limbaugh.

I am a Democrat.. but I listen to right wing-nut radio from every other day or so. There are plenty who listen...(it isn't good for the blood pressure though) This fits in to the 50 state strategy.... campaign and reach out to ALL... EVERYWHERE... Hell, he might pick up a few Republicans by showing a clear contrast between what he is advertising and the smears being played. I am excited to have a nominee select... that knows the importance of trying for every vote.

7. Actually - it's a good idea... |

Cunningham is off of his rocker. He and his cohorts are carrying on about how horrible Obama is, then they accept money for his ads. So then the ads air, and people get to hear obama's message in 15, 30 & 60 sec bits. Their curiosity gets aroused, and they want to hear more. In the end, it completely diffuses Cunningham - and will turn some people on to the right path. We WANT these people to change their minds on their positions, to open up and stop fighting against us. This is a great way to sway people over.

|
That would strike me as a waste of money. On the other hand, WLW, as I understand it, has other programming, including coverage of U of Cincinnati and Xavier basketball. I doubt that only RW racists listen to the station.

12. Sometimes when you make large media buys, the company placing the ads |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 10:35 AM by GumboYaYa
will have a network of stations that the ads go over. It can result in odd placement of ads relative to the content of a particular show on a station. For exampl, in St. Louis, Rush Limbaughis on KMOX. An ad buy on KMOX could result in ads showing up during his show. Sometimes there are ways to prevent this in the buy, sometimes there are not. This could be an instance of that.

15. keeps Cunningham from dehumanizing him to the public |
|
smart move - listeners get to hear nut job Cunningham screaming and ranting, almost sounding like an animal, and then they get to contrast it with a rational, calm, eloquent Obama who makes sense.
Neocons use a strategy employed by the military - you have to dehumanize the "enemy" in order to make it less painful to attack or kill.

is a full service station. I do listen to them for sports, to the Cincy Reds broadcasts, sometimes on weekends, morning drive, etc. There's much on there that isn't right-wing hate outside of Cunningham. It is smart to use the biggest radio station in the market to spread your gospel.

18. WLW is a powerful station that can be heard almost anywhere in the Midwest. |
|
No candidate can pass that up.
People also recognize Bill Cunningham for what he is. We've heard him enough.
