How Many Obama Supporters Have Stopped Posting and are Just Waiting...?
I have given up posting here in GDP because there havn't been any open minds here in a long time. It's pretty clear that Obama will win and that Hillary is not wanted and should drop out.

Here on DU, there is a lot of pointless mud-flinging, whining and carping about the man who will be our nominee. It seems that there are fewer and fewer vocal attacks on Hillary and even fewer defenses of Obama. I am wondering if this is because many, like me, have just become tired of the attacks and given up posting here?

I can't wait until Hillary has officially withdrawn and all those here, who are so bitter against the best candidate we have had in years, will have to accept the situation, find another website or shut the hell up.

2. We are in a holding pattern...
...and it is very uncomfortable. It's like the time between someone's death...and their funeral.

You just want to get over this limbo time, and proceed through the formalities--so you can move on.

3. I've given up on responding in most cases. It appears that most everyone
here has made up their minds and there is no point in responding to any of the arguments at this point. It's 5 days and for a change, the spring weather here in Portland is gorgeous, so I'm just going to enjoy that while I can.

I've been much less interested in engaging my GDP friends in dialog about the election. The rhetoric has became too incendiary and harshly "tribal" for my tastes. I look forward to joining together again...in order to promote Obama to an historic General Election victory.

12. Agreed. It has been very hateful around here lately
especially from some of the more militant Hillary supporters.

They would rather beat dead horses (i.e. McClurkin) and they have no interesting in uniting behind Obama if he is nominated.

8. What's the point?
There are a handful of people here who post the same nonsense over and over. They'll start a thread with a false premise (aka lie), and when their mistake is pointed out to them with facts and articles, they'll flame a bit, and then disappear. Only to repost the same crap 5 days later.

Plus, I'm afraid to post anything for fear of being called one type of "-ist" or another.

I still read this forum for the really thoughtful, and information filled threads, created by some wonderful, non-spamming DUers.

20. Honestly, the Hillary supporters are obnoxious.
I'm not talking about Hillary supporters that genuinely believe in her ability to run this country and make proper policy decisions. I'm talking about the Hillary supporters who are only voting for her because she is female, and take every counter argument as though us Obama supporters were woman hating Neanderthals. So sorry.

About me. I'm a gay 31 year old white male professional in Northern California.

I'm young enough that I have never known a world where women were not leaders in every aspect of our society. I love women, and almost every woman I have known professionally has done their job at the top tier of performance in my departments.

And let me tell you, nothing peeves me off more than somebody telling me I have a bias I do not have. And I've been told that over and over and over again in DU.

If you want to vote for Hillary solely because she has a vagina, and you have a vagina, good for you. But that is not a logical argument that is going to turn me to vote for her. Sorry, not when I have all the evidence of her track record to indicate she is NOT the candidate for me.

In addition, I doubly don't appreciate the "Cult of Obama" posts in this forum. You're doing right wing smear work when you post that crap. Make no mistake, Obama is going to be our candidate in November. At this point the race is pretty much done. In consideration of that I find it even more repulsive that Hillary is "pulling out the kitchen sink" in negative campaigning to destroy our chance to grab the presidency.

Here in California I watched THIS EXACT SAME THING happen in our last Governor's race. The Dem candidate had to spend all of his funds in the primaries in order to counter the slime campaigning of his competitor. The end result is that he didn't have enough money to do ad buys and keep his name in the heads of voters. Initially polled with a huge lead on Arnold the public forgot who the candidate was (hell, I can't even remember his name now, just a year later.)

If Hillary wants to fight dirty, send out a final scorched earth barrage, that's her priority. But the end result is that we may have a withering candidate without the funds to fight a national battle against a well funded Republican candidate.

That comment was totally unnecessary and smacks of misogyny. I just wish all those who have a penis would go home... we have no use for you. I also notice those with a penis prefer Obama. (i.e. white males)
There!!!!!!! How do you like that kind of talk??????? Two bits you didn't appreciate it any more than I did. You think you're being smart but you're really just a fool with a penis. Sometimes a taste of ones own medicine make people see the light.

Nothing is worse for the Republicans than an anonymous presidential candidate. If Hillary and Obama are the main show their names are recognizable, and they become the Zeitgeist candidates that brainless middle grounders well vote for just because they have heard the name. Meanwhile McCain is an anonymous nobody.

Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 03:21 PM by K Gardner
imagine seven weeks filled with nothing but endless Clinton desperation tactics and infighting? It simply cannot go on. Right now, Obama is trying to fight McCain AND half of his own party AND the Clinton Attack Machine. He has no united front behind him. For example, he is now trying to disprove the fallacy that he is unknowledgeable about Iraq because of a HYPOTHETICAL question that was asked in a debate. So, he is being attacked by McCain, McCains generals, BUSH, the MSM and of course, Hillary and her minions.

Over the misinterpretation of an answer to a hypothetical question. Because of a stupid debate. Because of a debate that Hillary pitched a hissy fit to have otherwise he'd be a "coward". Over a question MEANT to trap him into an answer he'd be hit over the head with. Over a question that Hillary refused to answer. That's why it can't continue :-)

39. I wouldn't blame them. The small coterie of vicious HRC supporters swarm nearly every thread with
the most ridiculous accusations, smears, and innuendo's imaginable against Obama supporters, post OP's that contain nothing more than reams and reams of regurgitated, dittohead rubbish taken straight from Rush or other reactionary gasbags, and routinely harass Obama supporters from thread to thread in an attempt to shout down debate.

They are also quite good at manufactured outrage, strawman tactics, and brazen, provable falsehoods. On that latter point, showing said posters irrefutable evidence of the same in an attempt to elicit, if not an apology, at least a concession that their charges are false is labeled "stalking" or "harassment," a handy enough way to duck out of the matter which they repeatedly employ.

Still, it should all be over soon and we will have a presumptive nominee, probably next week after Texas and Ohio vote. In the meantime, don't let a tiny gang of internet thugs run you off. I know their tactics are outrageous, but hang in there, the vast majority of us are on your side.

They're behaving in the most despicable way imaginable, and I'm not interested in participating in their viciousness and stupidity.

47. I'm not sure I would be that blunt about it, but . . .
your point is well taken. Five more days until the Clinton clock winds down and we can start to unify around Obama.

56. I took a bunch of people off ignore only to put them right back on
I took them off because I wanted to see if they were getting better. I learned my lesson.

67. How long did you last before you put them back?
I did that same thing, Don. I just hate using ignore--in fact I had never used it prior to this primary. I cleared my ignore list too. I think I made it about half an hour (maximum) before I had one of them back on ignore. The rest followed shortly after.

Every primary on here is (and has always been) ugly, but this year has been especially stupid.

75. Kick.
I just pulled the ripcord on an honest thread asking about which candidate is less of a CFR/PNAC lite/banking/AIPAC/ military industrial consortium puppet. It was open, acknowledging that at first blush, Hillary is the puppet, but that I am open to hearing the same argument about Barack.

I didn't click the post button because I said, fuck it, enough with the intra-party takedowns. B to the O is on the verge of sealing this shit. But, I still have mad love for Hillary supporters. They appreciate more than anything Hillary's will to take shit to the mat. We NEED them.

80. That's pretty much the size of it. You can only put up facts and reason
for so long to the HRC supporters. They will always find a way to blame others and rationalize some bizarro scenario for HRC to get the nomination. Better just to lay back and wait (unless you're busy campaigning of course) and let the chips fall as they may.

Let 'em have their fun for they will be cryin' soon anyway.

81. I've been trying to lay low
unless a big story pops.

However, I suspect that she might be insane enough not to drop out after march 5. I think she squeaks by in Ohio by less than 5%, gets beaten by 5% - 10% in texas but gets crushed in delegates there which SHOULD be enough to make her drop out, but it wont be. Puerto Rico will be her firewall.
