New Obama slogan "Hope isn't enough" ? |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 12:33 PM by quinnox
It was interesting how in the debate Obama backed away from his feel good hope message. Why? I thought Obama says many times hope is so important and one of the main themes behind his campaign.
So is hard headed solutions now the focus of the Obama campaign? Putting away the blind hope and getting to business?

3. So, one can't have Hope |
|
and get down to business at the same time?
I find it VERY ironic that "The Man From Hope", his wife, and their supporters are now making fun of those who speak of Hope.
Remember the '92 video, "The Man From Hope"? Hope was a good thing then but is a bad thing now?
Maybe because Bill spread Hope in '92 and "betrayed" and "disgraced" us in '98?

6. Bill's campaign was based on substance, not slogans |
|
He ran on a record of six terms as governor during which he balanced 12 budgets in a row (a big deal at the time given Reagan-Bush's deficits), took his state to #1 in economic growth and #4 in job growth and reformed the state's education system (through Hillary) and updated its infrastructure. He had specific policies as well.

8. What's really Ironic is |
|
that it's being reported that Hillary came up with the phrase, "I still believe in a place called Hope".

4. He's always said hope wasn't enough. |
|
Once Clinton concedes and you start familiarizing yourself with the Obama campaign I'm sure you'll find much of it to your liking.

5. Did you bother to listen to what he actually SAID? |
|
Or did you simply paraphrase it in your mind for how you wanted it to sound?
Direct from the debate (maybe you could try reading it, since you failed to listen):
" I am absolutely clear that hope is not enough. And it is not going to be easy to pass health care. If it was, it would have already gotten done. It's not going to be easy to have a sensible energy policy in this country. ExxonMobil made $11 billion last quarter. They are not going to give up those profits easily.
But what I also believe is that the only way we are going to actually get this stuff done is, number one, we're going to have to mobilize and inspire the American people so that they're paying attention to what their government is doing. And that's what I've been doing in this campaign, and that's what I will do as president.
And there's nothing romantic or silly about that. If the American people are activated, that's how change is going to happen. "

It sounds like that is exactly what Obama said in your quote "...hope is not enough. "

...and your post implied that he had ever said differently. That's simply not true.
