The guy they talked to at Obama headquarters in the video said "it didn't sound very plausible," which sounds like a polite version of "WTF are you talking about?" Clinton's camp came out more strongly with a "let's have the name of the staffer you say called you." Then the news story pretty much assumes this condemns the Obama camp and exonerates the Clinton camp? I'd say if there's any truth to this at all, let them reveal the name(s) of the staffers that allegedly called from both camps. Frankly, this sounds like a Republican trick.

Also, FYI, the Canadian embassy debunked this story earlier this afternoon. Still, I'd like to see whoever popped this story out grilled thoroughly to reveal the staffers' names -- which I'd bet beaucoup money they don't have.

the problem in both these areas.

I live in Detroit Michigan. as I type this I am approx. 3 miles from Canada. The primary reason our jobs go to Canada is that they have health care provided by the government while the auto makers here need to provide health care for their workers. This gives Canada a competitive advantage.

I don't see any possibility that Canada's labor or environmental standards are so out of line with ours that it could effect a trade deal.

If you can find someone from the Obama camp telling Mexico not to worry about us renegotiating NAFTA I will sit up and listen. As for Canada it may all be irrelevant.

Canada has diplomatic representatives posted in the US, including Chicago. These representatives are actively talking to decision makers, including those involved in all campaigns, about the whole range of Canada-U.S. issues. Our economic relationship and trade often come up in these meetings but in none of our conversations has any campaign advisor ever signalled that a candidate would say things that they didn't mean or that we should disregard.
