My Prediction: Richardson endorses Obama tomorrow.
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 10:56 PM by jefferson_dem
Just a hunch...is all I have.

Richardson said he could endorse within the next few days (trancript below) and if he did so tomorrow, that would give him the weekend to barnstorm across Texas. Hopefully, I'll be able to say "I told you so."

***

RICHARDSON: I think that it's a classic race, change vs. experience. And, obviously, I ran on the experience mantle. It didn't work out too well. But I think they're both exceptional candidates, represent fundamental change. I think it's going to be very, very close. I don't think this race is over. But I may make a decision and do an endorsement. I just feel --

BLITZER: Within the next few days?

RICHARDSON: Possibly, yes.

BLITZER: And, if you do, you want to give some hint which way you might want to go?

RICHARDSON: Not really.

(LAUGHTER)

BLITZER: But you will?

RICHARDSON: But I -- well, I may decide not to. I'm just not trying to be cute. I just have felt that an endorsement by me, I don't think it's that significant. But I still might do it.

5. I have had it with these guys--why play games with your endorsements, and
string out the "will I won't I", unless you're either A: desperate for your 15 minutes to NOT be up, or B: You're a nutless wonder who is waiting to figure out who's going to be in power so you can suck up to the winner. You can't tell me that these men don't have any opinions or convictions about both Obama and Hillary--fucking PICK ONE!!. Sorry, rant over.

6. Right. And he is hoping for a V.P. seat
Why was he at Blitzer the other day? Did not have anything to contribute except that he may or may not endorse someone soon.

7. He's going to be Obama's VP.... and a GREAT ONE at that....
...he'll bring in Colorado and NM in the General.... and maybe some other southwestern states.

And his foreign policy experience is second-to-none. And he's just an all-around great guy who is VERY hard to attack.

14. I'm not so sure he'd make a great VP pick, but I do agree he would make NM blue again.
He's NM's favorite son, and wildly popular here. I hope he will endorse Obama, and I agree that his role in a cabinet position would be fantastic re: foreign policy experience. BUT he's really not that "hard to attack." I'm not going to post anything specific here, but Bill does have some skeletons that aren't that hard to find. I'm sorry to say that because I love Bill anyway, but he is a little vulnerable. Still, I guess most others are, too. He would do a great job, I'm sure of that.

Is that ambivalent enough? heh.

15. I'd like to see Obama choose someone more progressive
But he could do a helluva lot worse than Bill.

21. Do you want him to choose someone more progressive... or do you want him to win?

It can't be both.

Obama already has the "most liberal voting record in the senate" thing, and he needs someone that INDEPENDENTS can feel comfortable with.

We can't win the general (and Hillary couldn't either) without winning the Indies.

27. Pfft -- it totally can be both
The "most liberal voting record in the senate" thing is a bullshit story from a rag who ALWAYS says the Democratic nominee has the most liberal voting record in the Senate. They were going to say that about him no matter what.

People who are so stupid as to fall for that line of attack will likely have no idea what Richardson's politics are. The Repugs will paint him as the "most liberal governor in the United States" and the sheep will lap it up.

Obama should pick the best candidate to help him lead. Personally, I'd like to see him go with Chris Dodd.

I also dont think he has anything to gain by endorsing Hillary right now.

nothing will, especially now that she's a virtual "dead letter" candidate.

He's not that type.....to make any bold moves. After Nevada, since the election was going into South Carolina, his endorsement would not have helped.

Until now, the Hispanic vote has not been more important since california on Feb 5th...and at that point, Hillary believed that she had a lock on that vote, and didn't need overkill. I believe that she now feels the need....considering that Obama is pulling at too many Hispanics for her own taste....which reminds me why she didn't "Denounce" that Hispanic Activist that was spewing hate on the Television.

10. I'm not so confident. He did drop out right before Nevada.......
and I still can't figure out why he would drop out right before a primary that he would have finally done well in. Especially after the odds that most of the Hispanic voters would vote Hillary. So I disgres from your opinion. The Clinton's have done too much for Richardson. I don't believe him to be such an independent thinker. In particular, because Hillary did win New Mexico.

12. Wouldnt it have made sense then to endorse her after she won Nevada?
Not to mention he has said on record that he though NM was close enough that he didnt feel compelled necessarily to support who the state went with.

Gotta be an Obama endorsement. The only reason to endorse Hillary at this point would be because you want to be known as someone who'll 'go down with the ship'.

16. His "change vs. experience, I tried experience, change is winning" business seems to echo Dodd's
endorsement speech. I thought that when I read it, but I still believe at this moment that Richardson won't endorse until the 5th.

That would be a great endorsement and a great news cycle. I'd love to see Richardson campaign with Obama in Texas for a few days...that would probably be a big help.

25. I'd always thought a Clinton / Richardson ticket would be good.
In fact, I initially supported Richardson with the idea of just such a ticket in mind. (I never thought he had a chance of beating Clinton.)

26. I'd be shocked if he endorsed Obama.
He's much more of a Clinton player. His involvement with trying to get the weapons inspectors to lie for Clinton so they could bomb Iraq in the 90's and the vanished ballots in New Mexico have kept him on my list of very shady players.
