The 1 time Hillary refused to answer a debate question, Obama answered it and botched it all to hell
....and now piss-head, McCain, has half the country laughing at Obama because of it. Way to go, Barack!

As usual, in the debate the other night, Hillary was getting asked all the tough questions first. For the first time, though, Hillary refused to answer one of Russert's questions because she was smart enough to smell the trap, so she told him it was nothing but a hypothetical, and she wasn't comfortable answering it. It was a question about Iraq.

So what happens but Russert poses the same question to Obama. For the first time in the debates, Obama doesn't have the luxury of having Hillary answer the question for him first and give him all the answers, so what's he do? He botches the answer so badly that John McCain is mocking him all over the country and building his case already that Obama has no idea what's going on in Iraq.

BTW, if you didn't see it, it was when Obama said he would consider taking action as president "if al-Qaida is forming a base in Iraq." McCain then went right to work tearing Obama apart saying, "I have some news. al-Qaida IS in Iraq. It's called 'al-Qaida in Iraq'".

Can you imagine if Obama had gone first on all the tough questions in the debates instead of having the luxury of listening to Hillary answer all the questions for him?

Let's face it, Hillary is the ONLY one competent enough to beat McCain in a general election. That's why I'm supporting her until she says it's all over. :smoke:

1. Al-Queda doesn't have a base in Iraq
there may be a few members there, but it's not like they have a central office and receive mail or anything.

and there's no reason to believe that the militias in Iraq or whoever eventually gains power once we leave, be that Sunni or Shia, won't deal with Al Queda themselves.

Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 09:45 AM by Occam Bandage
is that Russert asked a hypothetical, Obama answered the hypothetical, and McCain claimed erroneously that it was not a hypothetical and that it was actually happening.

Nobody could possibly deny that Russert's question was hypothetical, since it started with the word "if."

19. I hate to harp on the experience thing again, but it's cases like that
that you learn how to handle ONLY through experience.

As a comparrison, think about the first few job interviews you went on and what you said and how you answered the difficult questions, compared to how you handle them after going on 5 or 10. For the most part, that's what those moderators are playing...the job interviewer, and they're proding and trying to get the candidate's reaction to difficult situations.

Obama is doing much better now than he did a year ago BECAUSE of questions like that.

I don't like entrapment questions to the candidates any more than I liked them in the interviews I've been on, but I had to deal with them and so do the candidates.

27. Iraqi is majority shi'ite.
Al-Qaeda is a small group of foreign sunni extremists. With the US occupation over the Iraqis will probably unite and drive al-Qaeda out themselves. The US doesn't need to occupy the entire country to help fight against al-Qaeda.

The main base for al-Qaeda is in tribal regions of Afghanistan/Pakistan because many of the people there share their extremist sunni dogma.

If you believe in occupation as the way to fight al-Qaeda then prepare to occupy Afghanistan and Pakistan.

65. No spin required. The reasons given to support Hillary are:
1. Her botched 1993 attempt to reform health-care, which demonstrated absolutely everything that was wrong with her incompetent form of "leadership."

2. The fact that she went on handshake trips as First Lady.

3. The fact that she's been in the Senate for several years longer than Obama has.

Really, if that's the best you can do at this point, Obama's got it in the bag.

in as Provisional ballots or something? I guess anything to keep your life as exciting as it currently is, running around dissing the guy who will be the (D) in November.

The writing is on the wall. Whether you read it now, in a few days time, or in June is really insignificant. But I think your candidate will choose the few days option. Let's hope you do the same.

101. Just because a few al-Qaida types may be in Iraq doesn't mean it's a base.
I highly doubt there are any hard core al-Qaida members in Iraq and I believe it's mostly propaganda by the Bush crew so as to justify more military efforts in Iraq which equals more money for the death machine. When the government and Bush lies to us all the time, how can you believe anything they say anymore?

If by some miracle, Obama gets the nod, the repukes will easily coast to another 4 years in the WH. Hillary is our only chance of beating the right wing machine. It's too bad how many people are hypnotised over nothingingness and a bunch of empty rhetoric, which is all Obama has to offer. That'll go over like a lead balloon in the General Election.

107. Let's face it, if she can't beat Obama, she can't beat McCain
If Clinton manages to pull the nomination out of a magic hat, then she deserves it. If she doesn't, she doesn't.

Personally, I don't think that McCain will be as easy to beat for either candidate as some people seem to think. There are a lot of states that no Democrat is going to win. But the candidate that wins this primary is the best candidate and has the best chance to beat him.

(besides, Obama did a very good job of turning McCain's comments back on him. He has a gift for that)

113. The idiots were going to find something to pretend outrage over.
It might as well be th preposterous notion that the goddamned war isn't responsible for introducing al-Qaeda to Iraq. McCain may try to make hay out of this, but to do it he has to talk up the war--and no, "half the country" isn't going to follow him there.

This is a particularly pathetic attack.

Good point, but our people have to be a little more careful of falling into traps like what Russert posed up the other night to Hillary, which she avoided, but Obama fell for.

You don't know what you're talking about, as was evident in this post before the debate: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4771199

How'd that work out? Is Obama's campaign in a nosedive? It isn't, well your judgment must be about as good as the candidate you support. Sad.

I get why you're pissy because if my candidate was losing like this, I would be as well. It's tough watching the candidate you love sink faster than Bush's approval ratings, but don't let it blind you. Ya' just look like a moron when you do!
