Clinton Campaign: Obama must win all 4 states on Tuesday or else she stays in
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 11:45 AM by Tropics_Dude83
Time Magazine reports this.

Mark Halperin on the page at time.com

Clinton campaign memo highlights Obama’s winning-streak momentum, ad outspending in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island, says if he can’t win all four, then the message that Democrats are “having second thoughts” is clear. Read it here.

To: Interested Parties

From: The Clinton Campaign

Date: Friday, February 29, 2008

RE: Obama Must-Wins

The media has anointed Barack Obama the presumptive nominee and he’s playing the part.

With an eleven state winning streak coming out of February, Senator Obama is riding a surge of momentum that has enabled him to pour unprecedented resources into Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The Obama campaign and its allies are outspending us two to one in paid media and have sent more staff into the March 4 states. In fact, when all is totaled, Senator Obama and his allies have outspent Senator Clinton by a margin of $18.4 million to $9.2 million on advertising in the four states that are voting next Tuesday.

Senator Obama has campaigned hard in these states. He has spent time meeting editorial boards, courting endorsers, holding rallies, and - of course - making speeches.

If he cannot win all of these states with all this effort, there’s a problem.

Should Senator Obama fail to score decisive victories with all of the resources and effort he is bringing to bear, the message will be clear:

Democrats, the majority of whom have favored Hillary in the primary contests held to date, have their doubts about Senator Obama and are having second thoughts about him as a prospective standard-bearer.

it's just sad to see Clinton reduced to this. If she loses TX, OH and VT, and still goes on, she'll swiftly become a punchline.

5. Good luck funding that idea to stay in, Hillary Clinton
Democrats having second thoughts? Does that mean even if he gets nominated in late August, they're going to stick around and campaign in case his poll numbers drop too low?

This is just another one of their stupid trial balloons. Nobody is buying this crap.

6. This way we can truly drive the party into the ground
it appears that the DNC will be the ultimate factor in deciding this thing. When all is said and done, after she goes down scratching, kicking and screaming she's not going to have an ounce of credibility left. Hillary has a real Huckabee thing going, only without the fun.

12. I hope she stays in until the Convention.
It'll keep the Republicans guessing. Also, we never know what might happen between now and then. However, if she is defeated, she should let up on the attacks against Obama. However, so long as the SD's are uncommitted, neither will have the majority necessary to capture the nomination.

It's laughable that we see that snarky bullshit that "the media has anointed Barack Obama". How pathetic... did the media vote in the last 11 races where Obama handily won.

I say we set up the party for Hillary to concede on March 5th in NYC. Name the place, we'll cater.

When I say they are insane, I mean they need to be committed if they believe that. And the supporters that believe it need a room right next to them!

24. So, I guess that means that since polls always tighten as each
primary approaches and she loses by big margins, etc. that that doesn't indicate a problem?

I think my head is about to explode!

This is like a poor parody of when Capt. Kirk would outwit some computer by giving it a self-referential paradox to solve. Quick! Put Hillary in the evacuation tube before she explodes!!!!

28. So even when she loses...
she wins? How about we turn the premise aroung, HRC must win decisive victories in all four states or she gets out? I used to think Obama supporters were overreacting by saying that she will do anything to win, but come on! Enough is enough, have some class, say oops, and GET OUT! (no, I don't hate democracy, am not a sexist, don't belong to a cult, secretly want the pukes to win, kill kittens, support terrorism...ad nauseum)

29. The HRC camp set Ohio and TX as the key tests, & now they're trying to lowball expectations
I think that, especially after March 4, if Ohio and/OR Texas go for Obama, we now have to turn primary attention to uniting the party behind the quasi-presumptive nominee. At that point, the slow implosion we've seen of the HRC camp since Tsunami Tuesday would accelerate to an avalanche.

35. What ridiculous spin.
The reason why Obama is putting more resources into these states is because he has been able to raise more money from small donors than Clinton has, therefore he has more money to spend. It's because his rank and file support is greater than Clinton's. Yet the Clinton campaign seems to think that that's a bad thing. What a crock that line of reasoning is!

If it were Clinton who had raised more money you better believe they'd be spending it in these states too. Yet because Obama has run a better campaign and has raised more money the Clinton people seem to think that's an excuse to continue the campaign even though they are clearly losing at this point. But actually it's the other way around. The fact is that Obama has won 11 straight contests and is way ahead in pledged delegates, is closing fast with super delegates, and has raised much more money. Those are all reasons why Clinton should fold her tent and go home.

Otherwise we are going to have a bitter fight all the way to the convention, which can only help McCain in the long run. Yet Obama will still win it eventually. Is that really what the Clintons want, to destroy our chances in November?

My message to Clinton is, if you don't win big next Tuesday then get out while the getting is good.
