Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 01:54 PM by Drunken Irishman
:wtf:

What kind of warped logic are they using over at the Clinton campaign?

So originally it was Clinton HAD to win Ohio and Texas to stay in this game. Then it was Clinton only has to win either Ohio or Texas to stay in the game. Now it's Clinton can lose Ohio, Texas and Vermont, but win Rhode Island and she's the winner?

That's absurd.

1. Bush logic is what it is. Do you remember "as long as he does better than people expect, he wins
the debate!

Lower the bar, then claim victory.

Priceless.

4. Sounds like the Clinton camp wants an excuse to continue after losing Tx and mybe Oh
This was aimed at the Party leaders, hoping to keep them from trying to force Hillary out should she not meet the often quoted statistic that she must win both Texas and Ohio by huge margins to still have a chance.

I dont believe the Party leaders will buy into that twisted logic.

23. What will be best for the party and our chances to win the GE?
That will be the prevailing question.

And if the writing is on the wall, no amount of goal post moving will salvage a campaign that simply does not have the math to win.

Bill Clinton and James Carville - I presume two of her closest advisors - have said repeatedly on talk TV that TX and OH are must wins to stay in the race.

Beyond that, it would appear that it was not about what is best for the party - but what is best for the Clinton campaign; those are two very different things.

She loses both - I think (I HOPE) logic will prevail over wishful thinking. Then we can work to reunify the party and kick puke ass this fall.

Clinton Camp Memo on Obama Expectations

To: Interested Parties

From: The Clinton Campaign

Date: Friday, February 29, 2008

RE: Obama Must-Wins

The media has anointed Barack Obama the presumptive nominee and he’s playing the part.

With an eleven state winning streak coming out of February, Senator Obama is riding a surge of momentum that has enabled him to pour unprecedented resources into Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The Obama campaign and its allies are outspending us two to one in paid media and have sent more staff into the March 4 states. In fact, when all is totaled, Senator Obama and his allies have outspent Senator Clinton by a margin of $18.4 million to $9.2 million on advertising in the four states that are voting next Tuesday.

Senator Obama has campaigned hard in these states. He has spent time meeting editorial boards, courting endorsers, holding rallies, and - of course - making speeches.

If he cannot win all of these states with all this effort, there’s a problem.

Should Senator Obama fail to score decisive victories with all of the resources and effort he is bringing to bear, the message will be clear:

Democrats, the majority of whom have favored Hillary in the primary contests held to date, have their doubts about Senator Obama and are having second thoughts about him as a prospective standard-bearer.

7. The reality is that in order for her to tie the delegates
At least in terms of TX and OHIO (The only two races I am hearing much abt here in CA) she MUST get 65% of the popular vote.

With the polling numbers inboth states - she is just not going to be able to do that. THe two states are about an even split - if you take the 5 to 7% margin of error into factoring the results.

34. If Hillary won 55%-45% in OH, TX AND PA, she STILL would not be close to Obama in total delegates
after the remaining states, assuming that they basically split between the two candidates. I don't think she is going to win Texas by 5. She might Ohio. PA has already narrowed to about 5 or so for Clinton in one poll.

I just don't see how Hillary is going to wind up with the majority of pledged delegates assuming we let all of the contests be disputed.

Then her only real hope is that the super delegates, and/or changing the rules on MI and FL go for hillary. Either way she gets the nomination, her party is split by how it would take place.

Realistically, McCain would be the big winner.

Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 03:41 PM by truedelphi
Her whole message - up to about two weeks ago -has been "I" "I" and occasionally "Bill"

If she splits the party and Obama is out and she is in, and people won't vote for her out of anger, then we are in for another four years of Repugs.

This is why Bernstein included the Hillary discussion of her interplay with Carville, and Carville whispering into Kerry's ear that he didn't have the needed voltes so he should concede.

Kerry may well have had exactly the amount he needed to beat Bush's 138,000 ballot lead in Ohio - but Hillary was more terrified of Kerry going for the Preisdency in 2008 then of Bush continuing in office in 2004.

She could lose every contest from here to the convention and they'd be saying "Well Obama didn't win by 30 points, so obviously people want Clinton," and the damn media would let them spread that bullshit.

Are the ones who refuse to inform themselves.

The fact is, that unless Hillary wins the remainder of the contest by a 65% to 35% split she cannot catch up with Obama.

The media is trying their damndest to keep this going; it's good for ratings.

can you ever look at anything with even a modicum of objectivity. And I'm certainly not in a tizzy. I think it's funny in kind of creepy pathetic way. She wouldn't have released this, I don't believe, if her internals weren't showing some pretty devastating numbers. This is the last gasp of a dying campaign. It's being discussed in that light. The only people who don't recognize that are those who can't stop cheerleading long enough to pay attention.

I agree. Hillary must be seeing some devastating numbers, thank God.

The dem party needs to wrap this up ASAP after the 4th. Oh sure the news media would like Hillary to continue and be the dem Huckabee. It makes a good source of stories for the 24/7 talking heads.

But it would be terrible for the party and probably hand the election over to McCain in the fall.

Now she thinks she's taking a pass-fail elective, instead of running for president.

No, Hillary, making a "D" on your basket weaving course is not the same as Obama making all A's two semesters in a row.

That campaign gets more and more ridiculous.

43. Smart
;) This lowers expectations. It changes, if the msm buys this, the bar from being winning Ohio and Texas to making winning one of the two along with Rhode Island an upset. While this is big spin it is not entirely without merit. If Obama loses two of the four states, including one of the big two, it would suggest the party has not jumped on board the Obama bandwagon (in the real world Obama leads the popular vote 50-46 and that is excluding FL and MI) and provides justification to going on to Pennsylvania.
