Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 07:20 PM by stellanoir
We've had far too many wars and ever increased corporate influence and obtuse misleadership, and after 4 compromised elections leaving us entirely bereft of true representative leadership it might be time for something different.

The fact that we've got an incredibly enlightened mulatto and a well meaning but oft ill advised female candidate are reasons to celebrate not incessantly flame one another.

Peace please.

 Mulatto! I'll settle for nothing less than an octoroon!

Let me follow your logic here. For 250 years, this country has been led by white men. During this time, we have had wars and oppression. Therefor, white men caused wars and oppression. The obvious solution is to elect a woman or a "mulatto" to be president and we will have no more wars or oppression.

But wait!!

During that same time we have also had liberty, prosperity, progress, liberation, the Bill of Rights, and delicious frozen pizza that tastes as good as you'd find in an authentic Italian restaurant. By your logic, electing a woman or mulatto would bring these things to an end.

We must elect a white man right now! Please people, if not for the Bill of Rights... at least think of the pizza!

30. I don't hear it often, but at the time that I was born.....
it was the only word around as Bi-racial wasn't yet thought of.

I will say that I count myself as a Black person, but when people ask me "what are you?" (and yes, people actually ask me this), I normally say I'm mixed, my Mom is French and my father was Black (although French is actually a nationality, while Black is an ethnicity). The reason I answer like this is because people who are asking this question will not be satisfied if I simply say that I am Black (cause that's not what they want to hear)....so I explain with my long ago settled upon answer because I know that they will still ask me "but what are you mixed with?" if I don't.

No, technically, Tiger Wood an Afro-Asian.

My daughter is is 1/4 White and 3/4 Black just married an 1/2 Italian 1/2 Irish gorgeous guy. I guess that their kids are gonna have to call themselves Bi-racial, because I doubt that they will be able to call themselves Black. Oh well, we will deal with that at that time. If Obama is the President, this will help us all understand that being American is a blessing no matter your racial make up might be.

We really cannot understand the psychological change that is going to occur on Jan 20th 2009. Yes people of color, especially boys and young men will have a new role model that is smart, ethical and cool, but like affirmative action the main beneficiary may be many whites that still carry a sense of guilt.

Once he becomes President-elect the media is going to go nuts. At this point it still seems so unreal. It's nice when every once in a while the system actually works.

13. And Obama is smart enough to realize...
That he cannot win the Presidency of the United States on black votes alone. He understands that he needs the support of open-minded and liberal voters that are not prejudiced or will not support him solely because of his race. That is why he did not attend the State of the Black Union in New Orleans. That is why he denounced Lewis Farrakhan. It may be impossible but he wants to bring the nation together regardless of race, gender, or Party affiliation. He understands the dangerous divisions we are now experiencing in this country, in my opinion.

Farrahkan is a non issue really. He had no affiliation with him at all. As far as the State of the Black Union went, it was probably nothing more than a scheduling nightmare.

Tough for anyone to be at two places at one time, especially with prior commitments.

Managed to garner quite the response with this one, I see. Hope you got your flame retardant panties on, however.

:nuke:

Have you ever noticed how freaked out we liberals tend to get when the subject of race comes up? We either don't refer to it or else we get all "Alan Alda self righteous" about it. I think it says a huge amount about the state of our nation that this Primary has frequently been discussed in the context of either genitals or pigmentation. We have not really come all that far, I think.

Tell you what, Stella, I am game for a big old change in how we do business in this country, and I honestly doubt that either of the candidates the Dems have left will do half the screwed up crap that the Asswipe and Company have in the last 7 years. Vote for estrogen or vote for pigmentation--just vote for the DEM!!!!
