Yes, I'm worried about Hillary beating Obama in OH and TX but |
|
not for the reasons some Hillary supports may think. I believe the primary process has gone on nearly long enough. The rethugs have a candidate. PA is 7 long weeks away. If Hillary wins in OH and TX, she'll stay in- as she should, and we'll be in a world of hurt.
If someone said to me: "You have the choice of Hillary Clinton as dem nominee right now, or a long contentious race that's settled at the Convention in August, with Obama emerging as the nominee", I'd go for Hillary in the proverbial NY minute. A fight until the convention will almost certainly give us a nominee who will lose in November.
Unlike some other Obama supporters, I'm not upset about the phone ad, or SNL skits or what Hillary says on the campaign trail about Obama. It's a high stakes race and they both want to win. I am upset about the prospect of a 6 month take no prisoners battle that seriously damages the party.
And that's why I'm hoping this whole thing ends and ends soon. So we can get to work on defeating John McCain and repukes all across the country.

1. I say go to the convention if needed, because we need to have a candidate |
|
that can beat McCain and there is alot we do not know about Obama. He needs to be vetted. I don't want to put up some feel good guy only to realize he is the republicans wet dream.
We already know all about Hillary, so it's fair we should know all about Obama.

5. No dem candidate can possibly win if it goes unitl August |
|
Bob Herbert has an excellent piece about it this morning. Yeah, yeah, you don't like Herbert; than apply some common sense. And really, the only scenario in which it continues is if Hillary wins both OH and TX on Tuesday. Let me add, that we do NOT know all about Hillary. Looming over her are, Giustra and Gupta and even Paul- not to mention that all the old stuff gets repukes slavering. We know more about Obama than you'll admit.
I can't think of anything stupider than a race that continues until August. Fortunately those who can shape this race- the SDs, and folks like Dean- know how stupid it would be. One way or another they won't let it happen.
Oh, and though I think either Clinton or Obama can beat McCain, the odds are much better for him. That's obvious.

18. So I guess the hillary camp has not looked for dirt on Obama? |
|
Obama has been vetted by a campaign who would do anything to get the nomination. If there is serious mud they would have found it by now. And who is naive enough to actually believe the Hillary camp would not use it against Obama by now if they had it?

It has been a nasty fight and war is hell and unfair. Nobody comes out of battle without a little blood on their hands. I am just sick of it being Democratic blood.

7. yeah that 6 week PA delay |
|
is scary... it's tough to watch the democratic party imploding from within and we could just end this internal war if a few percent of OH and TX voters realize how much damage this continuing on will do to us and vote for Obama for the good of the party. As much as HRC has been complaining about coverage, I haven't seen anybody talk about how damaging her remaining in the race after Tuesday would be to Democrats. It's like they're afraid to say the obvious, worried Howard Wolfson will call for their head.

8. If the Clinton campaign is having a problem against Obama, why would it be different against mccain |
|
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 07:49 AM by still_one
That is part of what campaigns are supposed to be about, nominating someone you believe can win the General Election
I will vote for WHOEVER the Democratic nominee is, but whether it goes to the convention or not, means very little, as long as we choose the candidate who is most likely to win
If Hillary is able to overcome that, then she will have demonstrated that. However, if Obama continues his momentum, then he should be the choice
More damage would be done, is if we choose someone who won't be able to defeat mccain, just because we want to eliminate it going to the convention.

9. You know, your concern is beginning to look like ordinary competitiveness |
|
. . . despite the way you couch these 'Hillary drop out' threads. Why is it so hard for you to just wait and see how folks vote? I've never seen such disrespect for voters as I've seen from the Obama supporters here as they dismiss, take for granted, or want to skip these upcoming contests.

Obviously you are. This is not a Hillary drop out thread. And if you can't see that a fight until the convention would spell big trouble for dems, you're blind.

I have said I don't think a fight to the convention is a good thing, but I have not suggested that Hillary should concede- unless she loses on Tuesday. For fuck's sake, that's the firewall that they created.

And they have a mediocre to poor ONE. But it wouldn't be fair to either of them not to play it out to its conclusion. The contingency plan has to be to stay together and not fragment, no matter what.

20. How much press have you seen on McCain lately, |
|
with the exception of Obama/McCain pissing contest? I don't understand why it hurts us that America is hearing about our agenda including affordable health insurance, NAFTA, and Iraq drawdown. They need to start talking about deficit reduction and making it a center-point. Bush's budget is a disaster, and everyone knows it. Printing more money via tax rebates will not solve our economic difficulties. (It's the economy, stupid.)

I'm hoping for this campaign to continue. Although I'm leaning Obama, I hope Hillary wins OH and TX and that this race goes all the way to the convention. At some time, they're going to have to reconcile their differences. Neither has the number of delegates to win the nomination at this time. Furthermore, it keeps the Republicans guessing. If Hillary gets out, that does not automatically "unite" our Party. We may need to play this hand out. The candidate that goes into Denver with the most votes and the most selected delegates has a legitimate claim to be the nominee. Neither side is willing to give up yet.
