What I wish Obama's ad had said |
|
Obama had a real chance to mend fences with his ad. The vast majority of gay voters are not commander zero style Clinton partisans who are unwilling to listen to Obama and give him a real chance to atone for his errors in this campaign. Note the plural. But he didn't do that. Honestly, I don't care about the apology. He could have not even mentioned the previous errors in his ad. But he did need to say what he would do for us. Instead of a appeal to the bare minimum gay citizens should be getting he should have said that in the first hundred days he would sign ENDA, a bill banning hate crimes, and a bill ending DADT. That is doable. All three are very popular in the country at large, and the timeframe would have sent us a message of atonement. I will give the campaign credit for trying. But for me to be an enthusiastic supporter of his in the general election, I need to see atonement, not trying. He will have my vote regardless, but my time and money are a different story. They are dependent upon a real, honest, promise to work for our agenda.
