Obama slams Clinton on homestrech

By TOM RAUM
Associated Press Writer

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- Democrat Barack Obama worked to fend off an intensified attack on his foreign policy credentials from rival Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday as their paths crossed two days ahead of a potentially race-ending showdown in Ohio and Texas.

"What precise foreign-policy experience is she claiming that makes her qualified to answer that telephone call at 3 a.m. in the morning?" Obama asked of the former first lady at a town-hall meeting. It was a reference to dueling television ads over who would exercise superior judgment in responding to a national emergency in the middle of the night.

The Illinois senator also sought to ease lingering Internet-fed concerns about his religion, in particular whether he was a closet Muslim.

"I am a devout Christian. I have been a member of the same church for 20 years. I pray to Jesus every night," he declared at an earlier appearance in the rural southern Ohio town of Nelsonville. He said he wanted to halt "confusion that has been deliberately perpetrated."

Unlike Clinton, who has been barnstorming Ohio, Obama had only two events in the state on Sunday and was spending the night in hometown Chicago. He heads to Texas on Monday for a final day of campaigning before awaiting returns on Tuesday in San Antonio.

Hell, she didn't even have time to read the NIE! :eyes:

3. He should at least be required to tell the truth: so much for the politics of hope
Sen. Obama's Closing Argument A Series Of False And Misleading Attacks About Hillary

Sen. Obama is set to deliver a speech today attacking Hillary Clinton with a series of misleading claims and distortions:

Real change isn’t calling NAFTA a victory and saying how good it was for America until you decide to run for President, like Senator Clinton did.
Hillary started criticizing NAFTA long before she ran for President. In her run for Senate in 2000, she called NAFTA "flawed." In Sen. Obama's run for Senate in 2004, it was reported that Sen. Obama told a group of farmers that "the United States benefits enormously from exports under the WTO and NAFTA" and the U.S. should "pursue deals such as the North American Free Trade Agreement."

Sen. Obama will say:

Real change isn’t saying that you’ll stand up to lobbyists and special interests when you’ve taken more money from Washington lobbyists than any Democrat or Republican running for President, like my opponent has.
Hillary has been standing up to the drug industry, the insurance industry, the oil industry and other interests represented by lobbyists her whole life. That's why she voted against the Bush/Cheney energy bill, which was written by oil industry lobbyist, while Sen. Obama voted for it.

Sen. Obama has been dishonestly suggesting he is free from the influence of lobbyists. The Wall Street Journal debunks this today in an article entitled: Obama Campaign Enlists Lobbyists.

Sen. Obama will say:

Real change isn’t voting for a bankruptcy bill that makes it harder for working families to climb out of debt and then saying that you’re glad it didn’t pass once you start running for President. One of the first things I did when I got to the Senate was fight against the credit card industry’s bankruptcy bill…
This is a distortion that Sen. Obama has repeated throughout the campaign. Hillary said she regretted her 2001 vote, which is why she was glad the bill didn't pass. Obama has expressed no regret for voting against an amendment that would have capped interest rates at 30%.

Sen. Obama will say:

And real change isn’t voting for George Bush’s war in Iraq and then telling the American people it was actually a vote for more diplomacy when you start running for President.
This is false. What Hillary has said was that she wanted President Bush to pursue aggressive inspections. And that's exactly what she said on the floor of the Senate in 2002: "War can yet be avoided, but our responsibility to global security and to the integrity of United Nations resolutions protecting it cannot. I urge the President to spare no effort to secure a clear, unambiguous demand by the United Nations for unlimited inspections."

Obama buys 2-minute ads in Ohio, Texas for Monday

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/02/28/71415...

According to a source who tracks TV ad buying, Obama campaign has bought two-minute blocks in every market in both Ohio and Texas on Monday. It's unclear what the content will be, but sounds like it will be some sort of closing message. As we find out more, we'll report more.

business who does, to who, or why. I'm not judging anyone for their religion. And he's a Christian; why would he say he prays to Allah?

31. clarification, I didn't say he should say he prays to Allah
I just find the whole thing about him having to explain that he
is a Christian is a shame, ie the emphasis that he is NOT a Muslim,
particularly I would think offensive to Muslims, and I kind of wish
he wouldn't even go there.

My ill-expressed point was that I'd rather hear him say something
along the lines of: religion is a private and personal matter and if he
prays to Buddha, or Krishna, or Socrates, or Yahweh, or
Whatnot, or his own heart, it really isn't anybody's business nor a
subject for a presidential primary, since the USA is a nonsectarian country
and all people of all faiths including atheists have equal rights under
the law and in the eyes of God, if there is a god, or not, or both.

against him, and also against Muslims. I need to find that video, but I get your point.

And whether he likes it or not, religion is talked about in this country. People are vilified if they don't believe in someone or something. He's reinforcing his choice because he has to.

32. His Christianity is a large part of his values and his character
He's one of the few candidates I've seen talk about religion in a non-cynical and non-manipulative way. If it informs his judgments and values, I think it's good for him to talk about it.

33. I'm just moderately uncomfortable with him having to talk about it
much at all; however I'm not fond of religions in general and don't
especially want to know who somebody is praying to. I've had
enough of that with Bush and his God who told him to invade Iraq.

Don't get me wrong, I am hugely impressed by Obama and I believe
he is really good for this country. I spent the afternoon at a moveon
party making phone calls to little old ladies in Texas who hoped
somebody would give them a ride to the polls so they could vote for him.

Even got one wrong number and the girl I spoke to wasn't old
enough to vote; but she was interested enough to listen and
it occurred to her she could tell other people about voting for him
(her idea, not mine).

If Jesus were here, and registered to vote, he'd probably vote for
Obama too, whether Obama was praying to him or not.
