Health Insurance is #1 Priority for HRC. |
Have heard her say that many, many times and believe she is sincere, just look at the first 16 minutes of the Austin debate. My fear is she will do anything in her power to prove that she was right in the 90s and that her plan failed only because of those that hated Bill and his presidency or her for being a strong woman. That kind of single-minded drive to "show those folks" was a part of W's insistence on starting the war on Saddam (he tried to kill my daddy, I'll finish the job and be better than my daddy, etc.). While not necessarily as destructive as W's push to get Saddam, if she didn't learn from the first go round, HillaryCare II could turn into a my-way-or-the-highway battle that could so damage her first term that we could see a President Huckabee in 2012. There will be more than enough challenges in the next 4(8) years for either one of our Dem candidates, just hope neither one of them goes out of their way to pick a fight just to piss people off.

4. Keep in mind her plan is only in a step in the right direction, much like Edwards' plan. |
As long as it opens the door to transition to single-payer health insurance at a later date, it should be seen as a positive, even more so if there is an option for people to purchase the gov't-run non-profit health insurance plan in addition to the private for-profit insurance plans.

Has spoken about letting folks enroll. It is a menu from many insurance companies with at least two options from each. You can opt for coverage that is best suited to your budget and personal/family situation. The management costs are kept low by the number of folks subscribing and the buying power of the gov't. Interesting that they didn't use a similar model for the prescription program for seniors.
edit to add: The program is optional, but not many pass it up unless they have better/cheaper from another source (spouse's coverage).

8. There is a difference between universal MEDICAL CARE and universal INSURANCE. |
Hillary's plan would benefit the insurance and pharmaceutical companies; might be why she's so tied to their lobbyists. When she talks of universal medical care, irrespective of private health insurance, then I'll listen.

3. Yes, she wants us all paying the insurance companies. |
That was the deal - they back her now, she gets us to pay them back later.

6. Single payer, pretty much the industrial world standard |
Would take away much of the conflict between unions and management. Would spread the costs, business could concentrate on better products and mobile workers could demand competitive wages.

7. Single payer, like most other countries have, would be ideal. |
Unfortunately that's not what she's proposed. Neither has Obama, but his is a little closer.
