Obama is caught up in CHICAGO POLITICS...Like Clintons in ARKANSAS POLITICS!
What are good politicians supposed to do? There so much corruption in State Governments trying to get Fed Funds that there's not a State in the Union who doesn't "cut corners" by having folks who are "on the edges" get in league with Developers...whether Real Estate (housing for poor, mentally disadvantaged or the rest) or just Developer Greedy...who use water resources and roads and schools as issues after they've enticed the innocents who MOVE INTO THEIR DEVELOPMENTS...where they are suddenly faced with inadequate resources in the Communities touted by the SAME DEVELOPERS to be SOUND and GREAT for the families of the BUYERS!

Here's a post about some of what happenes when DEVELOPERS AND REAL ESTATE INTERESTS COLLIDE...along with GRAFT AND GREED in STATE GOVT...in COLLUSION WITH THE FEDS...and Our TAX DOLLARS!

I posted this in a reply to another post...but I think what I was trying to say...I want to take out here and see what other DU'ers think of this. What Obama was faced with in CHICAGO...goes back to what the Young Idealist Bill and Hillary were faced with in ARKANSAS...when they arrived FRESH outta' Law School and Bill wanted to go back to his home and REFORM IT.

In the END...the CORRUPTION of INTERESTS that's INFESTED our local STATE GOVT's...feeds UP TO THE TOP..

Please...let's not forget how IMPORTANT IT IS ..for our STATES AND their CITIZENS HERE ON DU TO REFORM the SYSTEM that FEEDS OUR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS!

WE are to BLAME...for THIS...because we've been LAZY...and our LAWS ARE LAX!

I think the worry is that the Lot Sale is red herring...

There will be more digging about Rezko's getting breaks from the Government to renovate properties and that the renovations involved political favors.

It seems that Chicago has history with corruption with the corruption between "powerful people" getting breaks from the Government for Urban Development for poor families. From what I've read from "Chicago Trib." it's that Rezko was getting contracts and that Obama was an activist in the poor neighborhood that Rezko was doing renovations on. There were a couple of letters Obama wrote in support of Rezko when he was a Senator and Obama's relationship goes all the way back to when Rezko offered Obama a job when he was finishing up at Harvard Law school.

Obama knew Rezko from the time he graduated from Harvard. Obama did Community Organizing in the area of Chicago where Rezko was getting (what seem to be questionable) contracts from the government to do renovations and maybe the renovations weren't up to the standards they should have been for the poor people who were supposed to benefit.

This kind of stuff goes on in every state. Real Estate Interests and powerful people getting Government contracts who don't always live up to their end of the bargain for the money they get. Shoddy workmanship and kickbacks can go to these powerful people all under the "wink and nod" by officials who should be regulating this.

Whether there's anything there or not...it seems Obama and Michelle did know Rezko during the time he was involved in whatever has gotten him in trouble...and that the "association" is either perfectly on the up and up...as part of Chicago Politics...or there's something there with Obama's relationship with Rezko when he was a Community activist in the neighborhood that Rezko was doing all these building renovations and new construction with Government money.

MSCorporate Media made such a big deal out of that stupid Whitewater Investment that one can imagine they will go after this...so they don't have to dredge up...Keating Five and McCain's dealing with the lobbyists he supposedly didn't like...but who used him to get what they wanted.

1. Well, Rezko led to some seedy land deals and Jackson Stephens got BCCI matters buried for BushInc
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 07:15 PM by blm
so which has been more harmful to this nation?

Did you know that Jackson Stephens bankrolled Bill Clinton's political career and underwrote his primary campaign? The same Jackson Stephens who staked WalMart, brought BCCI into this country with GHWBush, and owned WTI whose matters were settled favorably for Stephens?

There were alot of powerful people made happy around the world when BCCI matters were consistently deep-sixed throughout the 90s.

Some of them, like Dubai royals, are now lining Bill's bank accounts by the tens of millions.

4. Stephens was closer to Republicans than Democrats; closer to Bush than Clinton.
There has never been ONE, SINGLE iota of cridible evidence linking Bill Clinton to any underhanded or questionable deals done by Jack or Whit Stephens. All Stephens Inc., ever did for Clinton was the same thing Rezko did for Obama or HL Hunt did for GHW Bush -- raise money.

Why? Because rich people ALWAYS give money to presidential contenders -- usually on both sides -- so they will have good starting relations with a new admin. Stephens gave money to BOTH Democrats and Republicans (but his heart was with the Republicans).

BCCI was (among other things) a cocaine-smuggling and money-laundering deal that can be traced back to Reagan and Bush and Meese and a bunch of other REPUBLICAN (and ONLY Republican) politicians, but not to Clinton. Clinton was never involved in BCCI in any way at all. To suggest otherwise is just more bearing of false witness against one's neighbor, just more sin, diabolical in nature and arising from a corrupt heart.

BCCI was operating in the 80s and blew up in 1991 -- before Clinton got anywhere near the White House. He has never been associated with it in anyway except in the foul 'guilt-by-name-association' minds of lying wingnuts.

15. Clue phone - BCCI report was released Dec 1992 and handed to the new president and
it contained a list of outstanding matters requiring further scrutiny and due dilegence and accountability.

What happened?

BTW - Stephens WAS closely aligned with Bushes and his cronies AND he benkrolled Bill's political career and underwrote his primary campaign. Bush wanted to lose in 92 because he expected to be impeached after the release of the BCCI report, so Jackson Stephens boy was lined up and Stephens poured a ton of money into the primary campaign.... then what?

You want to pass yourself off as so familiar with this story, yet you DROP THE BALL at 1991.

As if there was never a list of outstanding matters.

How dumb do you think some of us are?

If you think it was resolved, then pray tell us how WAS Stephens held accountable? Poppy Bush? AQ Khan? Marc Rich? Dubai and Saudi royals? Bin Ladens?

And please prove they were HELD accountable by 1991 - just for further laughs.

You honestly expect us to believe there was NO CONNECTION between Stephens bankrolling Clinton, Poppy Bush's lousy campaign, and the deep-sixing of all BCCI matters THROUGHOUT the 90s?

16. BTW - guess you can also answer how ALL these matters were resolved between Dec1992 and Jan 1993:
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 09:10 PM by blm
Just read the 20 questions left unanswered, and it is apparent that had they been a priority for ANY administration, a 9-11 event would never have happened, and NO BUSH would ever be even allowed near the White House.

But, according to you all this was somehow resolved and unimportant by the time Clinton took office, so he had no duty to tackle any of these issues or cooperate with further investigations and facilitate access to documents long stonewalled by GHWBush.

Matters For Further Investigation

There have been a number of matters which the Subcommittee has received some information on, but has not been able to investigate adequately, due such factors as lack of resources, lack of time, documents being withheld by foreign governments, and limited evidentiary sources or witnesses. Some of the main areas which deserve further investigation include:

1. The extent of BCCI's involvement in Pakistan's nuclear program. As set forth in the chapter on BCCI in foreign countries, there is good reason to conclude that BCCI did finance Pakistan's nuclear program through the BCCI Foundation in Pakistan, as well as through BCCI-Canada in the Parvez case. However, details on BCCI's involvement remain unavailable. Further investigation is needed to understand the extent to which BCCI and Pakistan were able to evade U.S. and international nuclear non-proliferation regimes to acquire nuclear technologies.

2. BCCI's manipulation of commodities and securities markets in Europe and Canada. The Subcommittee has received information that remains not fully substantiated that BCCI defrauded investors, as well as some major U.S. and European financial firms, through manipulating commodities and securities markets, especially in Canada, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. This alleged fraud requires further investigation in those countries.

3. BCCI's activities in India, including its relationship with the business empire of the Hinduja family. The Subcommittee has not had access to BCCI records regarding India. The substantial lending by BCCI to the Indian industrialist family, the Hindujas, reported in press accounts, deserves further scrutiny, as do the press reports concerning alleged kick-backs and bribes to Indian officials.

4. BCCI's relationships with convicted Iraqi arms dealer Sarkis Soghanalian, Syrian drug trafficker, terrorist, and arms trafficker Monzer Al-Kassar, and other major arms dealers. Sarkenalian was a principal seller of arms to Iraq. Monzer Al-Kassar has been implicated in terrorist bombings in connection with terrorist organizations such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Other arms dealers, including some who provided machine guns and trained Medellin cartel death squads, also used BCCI. Tracing their assets through the bank would likely lead to important information concerning international terrorist and arms trafficker networks.

5. The use of BCCI by central figures in arms sales to Iran during the 1980's. The late Cyrus Hashemi, a key figure in allegations concerning an alleged deal involving the return of U.S. hostages from Iran in 1980, banked at BCCI London. His records have been withheld from disclosure to the Subcommittee by a British judge. Their release might aid in reaching judgments concerning Hashemi's activities in 1980, with the CIA under President Carter and allegedly with William Casey.

6. BCCI's activities with the Central Bank of Syria and with the Foreign Trade Mission of the Soviet Union in London. BCCI was used by both the Syrian and Soviet governments in the period in which each was involved in supporting activities hostile to the United States. Obtaining the records of those financial transactions would be critical to understanding what the Soviet Union under Brezhnev, Chernenko, and Andropov was doing in the West; and might document the nature and extent of Syria's support for international terrorism.

7. BCCI's involvement with foreign intelligence agencies. A British source has told the Bank of England and British investigators that BCCI was used by numerous foreign intelligence agencies in the United Kingdom. The British intelligence service, the MI-5, has sealed documents from BCCI's records in the UK which could shed light on this allegation.

8. The financial dealings of BCCI directors with Charles Keating and several Keating affiliates and front-companies, including the possibility that BCCI related entities may have laundered funds for Keating to move them outside the United States. The Subcommittee found numerous connections among Keating and BCCI-related persons and entities, such as BCCI director Alfred Hartman; CenTrust chief David Paul and CenTrust itself; Capcom front-man Lawrence Romrell; BCCI shipping affiliate, the Gokal group and the Gokal family; and possibly Ghaith Pharaon. The ties between BCCI and Keating's financial empire require further investigation.

9. BCCI's financing of commodities and other business dealings of international criminal financier Marc Rich. Marc Rich remains the most important figure in the international commodities markets, and remains a fugitive from the United States following his indictment on securities fraud. BCCI lending to Rich in the 1980's amounted to tens of millions of dollars. Moreover, Rich's commodities firms were used by BCCI in connection with BCCI's involving in U.S. guarantee programs through the Department of Agriculture. The nature and extent of Rich's relationship with BCCI requires further investigation.

10. The nature, extent and meaning of the ownership of shares of other U.S. financial institutions by Middle Eastern political figures. Political figures and members of the ruling family of various Middle Eastern countries have very substantial investments in the United States, in some cases, owning substantial shares of major U.S. banks. Given BCCI's routine use of nominees from the Middle East, and the pervasive practice of using nominees within the Middle East, further investigation may be warranted of Middle Eastern ownership of domestic U.S. financial institutions.

11. The nature, extent, and meaning of real estate and financial investments in the United States by major shareholders of BCCI. BCCI's shareholders and front-men have made substantial investments in real estate throughout the United States, owning major office buildings in such key cities as New York and Washington, D.C. Given BCCI's pervasiveness criminality, and the role of these shareholders and front-men in the BCCI affair, a complete review of their holdings in the United States is warranted.

12. BCCI's collusion in Savings & Loan fraud in the U.S. The Subcommittee found ties between BCCI and two failed Savings and Loan institutions, CenTrust, which BCCI came to have a controlling interest in, and Caprock Savings and Loan in Texas, and as noted above, the involvement of BCCI figures with Charles Keating and his business empire. In each case, BCCI's involvement cost the U. S. taxpayers money. A comprehensive review of BCCI's account holders in the U.S. and globally might well reveal additional such cases. In addition, the issue of whether David Paul and CenTrust's political relationships were used by Paul on behalf of BCCI merits further investigation.

13. The sale of BCCI affiliate Banque de Commerce et de Placements (BCP) in Geneva, to the Cukorova Group of Turkey, which owned an entity involved in the BNL Iraqi arms sales, among others. Given BNL's links to BCCI, and Cukorova Groups' involvement through its subsidiary, Entrade, with BNL in the sales to Iraq, the swift sale of BCP to Cukorova just weeks after BCCI's closure -- prior to due diligence being conducted -- raises questions as to whether a prior relationship existed between BCCI and Cukorova, and Cukorova's intentions in making the purchase. Within the past year, Cukorova also applied to purchase a New York bank. Cukorova's actions pertaining to BCP require further investigation in Switzerland by Swiss authorities, and by the Federal Reserve New York.

14. BCCI's role in China. As noted in the chapter on BCCI's activities in foreign countries, BCCI had extensive activity in China, and the Chinese government allegedly lost $500 million when BCCI closed, mostly from government accounts. While there have been allegations that bribes and pay-offs were involved, these allegations require further investigation and detail to determine what actually happened, and who was involved.

15. The relationship between Capcom and BCCI, between Capcom and the intelligence community, and between Capcom's shareholders and U.S. telecommunications industry figures. The Subcommittee was able to interview people and review documents concerning Capcom that no other investigators had to date interviewed or reviewed. Much more needs to be done to understand what Capcom was doing in the United States, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Oman, and the Middle East, including whether the firm was, as has been alleged but not proven, used by the intelligence community to move funds for intelligence operations; and whether any person involved with Capcom was seeking secretly to acquire interests in the U.S. telecommunications industry.

16. The relationship of important BCCI figures and important intelligence figures to the collapse of the Hong Kong Deposit and Guaranty Bank and Tetra Finance (HK) in 1983. The circumstances surrounding the collpase of these two Hong Kong banks; the Hong Kong banks' practices of using nominees, front-companies, and back-to-back financial transactions; the Hong Banks' directors having included several important BCCI figures, including Ghanim Al Mazrui, and a close associate of then CIA director William Casey; all raise the question of whether there was a relationship between these two institutions and BCCI-Hong Kong, and whether the two Hong Kong institutions were used for domestic or foreign intelligence operations.

17. BCCI's activities in Atlanta and its acquisition of the National Bank of Georgia through First American. Although the Justice Department indictments of Clark Clifford and Robert Altman cover portions of how BCCI acquired National Bank of Georgia, other important allegations regarding the possible involvement of political figures in Georgia in BCCI's activities there remain outside the indictment. These allegations, as well as the underlying facts regarding BCCI's activities in Georgia, require further investigation.

18. The relationship between BCCI and the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro. BCCI and the Atlanta Branch of BNL had an extensive relationship in the United States, with the Atlanta Branch of BNL having a substantial number of accounts in BCCI's Miami offices. BNL was, according to federal indictments, a significant financial conduit for weapons to Iraq. BCCI also made loans to Iraq, although of a substantially smaller nature. Given the criminality of both institutions, and their interlocking activities, further investigation of the relationship could produce further understanding of Saddam Hussein's international network for acquiring weapons, and how Iraq evaded governmental restrictions on such weapons acquisitions.

19. The alleged relationship between the late CIA director William Casey and BCCI. As set forth in the chapter on intelligence, numerous trails lead from BCCI to Casey, and from Casey to BCCI, and the investigation has been unable to follow any of them to the end to determine whether there was indeed a relationship, and if there was, its nature and extent. If any such relationship existed, it could have a significant impact on the findings and conclusions concerning the CIA and BCCI's role in U.S. foreign policy and intelligence operations during the Casey era. The investigation's work detailing the ties of BCCI to the intelligence community generally also remains far from complete, and much about these ties remains obscure and in need of further investigation.

20. Money laundering by other major international banks. Numerous BCCI officials told the Subcommittee that BCCI's money laundering was no different from activities they observed at other international banks, and provided the names of a number of prominent U.S. and European banks which they alleged engaged in money laundering. There is no question that BCCI's laundering of drug money, while pervading the institution, constituted a small component of the total money laundering taking place in international banking. Further investigation to determine which international banks are soliciting and handling drug money should be undertaken.

2. When Obama was a community organizer
He hadn't even met Rezko. Rezko offered Obama a job when he was finishing Harvard Law. This was a job offer among many job offers, nothing exceptional. That was 1993 when Obama decided to work for the law firm, but Obama didn't actually get to know Rezko until he decided to go into politics three years later. There is no connection I have ever seen, and I have read a very large number of reports, between Rezko and Obama's community organizing.

3. But....if you read the "Chicago Trib" articles...Obama was "organizing" in the very Neighborhoods
that Rezko was getting Fed Funds to Re-Develop. So the "poor in Obama's Chicago District" were DEPENDING on FED's DOLLARS through Rezko Development to rehab or build new facilities for those very same "POOR" to live in?

That's the problem! Fed Dollars go to folks who have "power" and "influence" and they always build "sub-standard" and eventually get caught up in some scam...that causes "Feds" and voters to DENY FUNDS down the road because of the CORRUPTION that takes place in State Government.

How does this system work for anyone...? It dis-enfranchises the Poor...and enriches the Pocketbooks of the Cronies who infest our State Legislators because the Powerful Real Estate and local "Chambers of Commerce" get the money into elections from the locals......

5. Are you saying that because...
Obama did community organizing in Chicago where there was political corruption, that work somehow taints him? What locale would rather he had worked in?

Vote of Confidence
Chicago Magazine / January 1993 / Vote of Confidence
A huge black turnout in November 1992 altered Chicago's electoral landscape—and raised a new political star: a 31-year-old lawyer named Barack Obama.

By Gretchen Reynolds

A huge black turnout in November 1992 altered Chicago's electoral landscape-and raised a new political star: a 31-year-old lawyer named Barack Obama.

In the final, climactic buildup to November's general election, with George Bush gaining ground on Bill Clinton in Illinois and the once-unstoppable campaign of senatorial candidate Carol Moseley Braun embroiled in allegations about her mother's Medicare liability, one of the most important local stories managed to go virtually unreported: The number of new voter registrations before the election hit an all-time high.
And the majority of those new voters were black. More than 150,000 new African-American voters were added to the city's rolls. In fact, for the first time in Chicago's history-including the heyday of Harold Washington-voter registrations in the 19 predominantly black wards outnumbered those in the city's 19 predominantly white ethnic wards, 676,000 to 526,000.
---------------------------------------------
None of this, of course, was accidental. The most effective minority voter registration drive in memory was the result of careful handiwork by Project Vote!, the local chapter of a not-for-profit national organization. "It was the most efficient campaign I have seen in my 20 years in politics," says Sam Burrell, alderman of the West Side's 29th Ward and a veteran of many registration drives.

At the head of this effort was a little-known 31-year-old African-American lawyer, community organizer, and writer: Barack Obama.
The son of a black Kenyan political activist and a white American anthropologist, Obama was born in Hawaii, received a degree in political science and English literature from Columbia University, and, in 1990, became the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review. In 1984, after Columbia but before Harvard, Obama moved to Chicago. "I came because of Harold Washington," he says. "I wanted to do community organizing, and I couldn't think of a better city than one as energized and hopeful as Chicago was then." He went to work for a South Side church-affiliated development group and "was heartened by the enthusiasm." But barely three years later, Washington died, and Obama, convinced he needed additional skills, enrolled at Harvard Law School. The African-American community he left, rent by political divisions and without a clear leader, went into a steep decline. By 1991, when Obama, law degree in hand, returned to Chicago to work on a book about race relations-having turned his back on the Supreme Court clerkship that is almost a given for the law review's top editor-black voter registration and turnout in the city were at their lowest points since record keeping began.

Six months after he took the helm of Chicago's Project Vote!, those conditions had been reversed.

A History of Organizing

As a community organizer for three years in Chicago in the late 1980s, Obama learned the skills of motivating and mobilizing people who had little faith in their ability to make politicians, corporations, and other powerful institutions accountable. Working with churches and neighborhood groups, Obama taught low-income people how to analyze power relations, gain confidence in their own leadership abilities, and work together to improve their housing, schools, and other basic services.

"What if a politician were to see his job as that of an organizer," he asked a local newspaper at the time, "as part teacher and part advocate, one who does not sell voters short but who educates them about the real choices before them?"

Since embarking on a political career, Obama hasn't forgotten the philosophical and practical lessons that he learned on the streets of Chicago and that are now central to his campaign for the White House.
---------------------------------------
A key tenet of community organizing is developing face to face contact with people so that they forge commitments to work together around shared values. Organizers are not social workers. Their orientation is not to "service" people as if they were clients, but to encourage people to develop their own abilities to mobilize others. They help people turn their "hot" anger into disciplined action. Community organizers also distinguish themselves from traditional political campaign operatives who approach voters as customers through direct mail, telemarketing, and canvassing urging them to support their candidate as if they were selling soap.

This approach is reflected in how Obama's campaign has integrated itself into local communities. In Iowa, for example, campaign organizers, both paid staff and volunteers, were required to help in community recycling projects, tree planting and garbage pick-up -- making themselves available for the day-to-day tasks required to enhance the neighborhoods they were in.

Campaign Notebook
Sellers say they didn't cut price for Obama

The couple who sold Barack Obama his Chicago home said the Illinois senator's $1.65 million bid "was the best offer" and they didn't cut their asking price because a campaign donor bought their adjacent land, according to e-mails between Obama's presidential campaign and the sellers.

Obama has said he made a "boneheaded" move in involving contributor Antoin "Tony" Rezko, a Chicago businessman, in the purchase of the property June 15, 2005.

Rezko's wife, Rita, also an Obama donor, bought the adjoining plot from the couple, Fredric Wondisford and Sally Radovick, for the $625,000 asking price, the same day Obama bought the house for $300,000 less than the asking price. Antoin Rezko was under a federal investigation at the time.

Rezko was indicted on unrelated fraud charges 16 months later, in October 2006. Obama has since returned about $85,000 in campaign contributions made or raised by Rezko.

The sellers hadn't previously made their side of the story public out of concern for their privacy, according to Bill Burton, an Obama spokesman. They approached Obama's Senate office 15 months ago and agreed to break their silence now through the campaign out of concern that the story was being distorted.

14. Clean up STATE GOVT! Put Laws in Place that make "special interests" tow a line and
put an oversight Board that's bi-partisan in charge of the Fed's Contracts Administration to State Govt.

BUT...make sure that there are laws that those who serve on the Oversight Boards don't have TIES to SPECIAL INTERESTS..like "Chamber of Commerce" and "Real Estate or any other Industry that takes money from Fed Govt...like Utilities, Minining, TelComs, Pharma Industry.

It won't be easy...but there's lots of folks out there that if "vetted" could be non-partisan. It's gonna take "A REVOLUTION" from the Ground Up...though. It's so easy the way the system works against us these days for there to be a clamor for CHANGE!

17. Human beings everywhere..
are susceptible to 'corruption'. I would very much prefer that my state and local government be responsible, and held accountable to it's citizens for how it allocates all funding, including federal. I do not want the federal government to have any more influence over my state government than it already has.

when Rezko had offered him the job he turned down. Obama went to Chicago not to be Rezko's Lawyer...but to organize. That's how he got his start in Chicago Politics.

You can Google this...just to check...in case you don't have the background reading about it.

9. He went to Chicago as a community organizer after Columbia U in the 1980s

From Harvard Law, in the early 90s, he went back to Chicago to work for a law firm.

CHICAGO –Attorney Judson Miner called Harvard to offer a job to a graduating student named Barack Obama and didn’t expect to be showered with gratitude. Still, he wasn’t expecting the reception he got.

“You can leave your name and take a number,” the woman who answered the phone at the Harvard Law Review said breezily. “You’re No. 647.”

That was 1991 and even then Obama — the Illinois senator now seeking the Democratic presidential nomination — was a hot commodity.

As the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama had his pick of top law firms. He chose Miner’s Chicago civil rights firm, where he represented community organizers, discrimination victims and black voters trying to force a redrawing of city ward boundaries.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/02/20/obama_got_start_in_civil_rights_practice/

He was still with the law firm when he decided to go into politics.

19. Not that I've ever seen and I've read a lot, as I said
Obama was getting a ton of job offers at Harvard, Rezko's was one of them. There had been a great deal of media coverage and drew a lot of attention from employers all over the country, and there was a lot of local boy makes good kind of interest in Chicago. Everything I've read moves Obama and Rezko closer from the mid-90s once Obama decided to go into politics. Before that, only the job offer in 1991 and that was one of hundreds. The offer wasn't even made by Rezko directly but by somebody who worked for his company. There is no reason to think Obama and Rezko knew each other earlier, although they may have known of each other, if you want to speculate. Also, remember Rezko's real estate development heyday was in the 90s. In the 80s, I believe he was still in the pizza business, but I suppose he would have been branching out by then. The fact is nobody thought anything bad about Rezko before 2006. He was an upstanding citizen and political player, a hot shot throwing money around, but considered a respectable businessman, I gather. I read an article by a political journalist, a very savvy older guy, a Republican who had been around Chicago politics for decades and knew who was who and what was what. He named every single political backer Obama had on his rise in Chicago politics, and Rezko was never even mentioned. Now if Obama was in Rezko's pocket for all that long and that deep, I think this reporter would have remarked on it. The Rezko case is about the Governor of Illinois, not about Obama.

22. Interesting...thanks. As I said...Chicago Politics has always been
very "free form"... So maybe it's hard to know one powerbroker (possible crook) from another. And, it works that way in other State Governments, also. It's how they manage to suck in the novices...newbies..and teach them "how it all works."

We need change...whether it's Obama at the top or not. The change needs to come from the Bottom Up...so we don't have as much of this crap that's gone on. Pendulum needs to swing. You will always have some corruption...but the level it's reached now is so out of proportion it's going to bring down our system of government if it isn't reformed soon. :-(

11. according to this article written in 1993...

13. Arkansas hosted one of the primary Iran/Contra operations...

I think they were receiving a lot more than just "Federal funds".

23. They were idealists when the were young ...fresh out of school and
went back to Bill's birthplace. When he ran for President...we all were enthralled thinking he was going to bring that "Change" that the "Man From Hope" promised. That was the theme of the 92 Convention... "The Man from Hope!" Obama Stole It! :D

24. They probably were idealists till Jackson Stephens started grooming Bill as his Dem watercarrier
to serve and protect when the Bushes and their cronies needed protection most.

The president during the 90s certainly protected his GOP predecessors so well they were able to launch a full on comeback by 1999.

26. what makes Rezko important is that Obama has pinned his
entire campaign on the idea that he's about "change". He's going to do it differently, he's going to change the way DC does business, he's the ethical candidate, etc.

Now we find out that it's been business as usual with Obama - and that pricks the balloon that is his candidacy.

-----------

It doesn't even matter if there were no laws broken - having a close personal relationship with a crook like Rezko - a relationship that goes back for 17 years - doesn't look good on your resume when you're running for President.
