Daily Kos: Hillary on 60M: "I take him at his word" that Obama Not a Muslim
They got the transcript a little wrong, but I guess they'll correct soon enough. The first thing she said was "No, I take him at his word." Or somehting to that effect.

1. Here's the full quote
"You don't believe that Senator Obama's a Muslim?" Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.

"Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that," she replied.

"You said you'd take Senator Obama at his word that he's not...a Muslim. You don't believe that he's...," Kroft said.

"No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know," she said.

Any Obama supporter who thinks she is trying to smear him based on this quote needs to take a good long look in the mirror.

2. How dare you inject facts and rationale into this debate? How dare you deny the Obama supporters
any opportunity to smear Sen. Clinton.

In other threads, the Obama supporters are calling Sen. Clinton a "bitch."

And it's occurred to me that they are just looking for any excuse to call her that.

They will go on with their faux outrage and calling her a "bitch" because it's what they do best.

They are lower than a snake's belley.

20. Of course hillary was cleared...but why can't she categorically say she respects Obama's faith?
Without reservation. I think cali made a great post.

If you take out the word Obama and insert the word Hillary, I think it would be clear that if obama said the same words about Hillary, most Hillary supporters would be offended.

10. For god's sake, you're usually better than this
As you well know, there's a great deal of difference between an accusation of murder and saying someone may belong to a religion.

Good god.

18. Of course there's a difference
that's not the point. The point is that by using the words she used she was sowing doubt. When you say "as far as I know" you're saying that It could be that what appears to be is not really what is.

7. Wow! THAT's what all the fuss is about?
What the hell else is she supposed to say, to satisfy Obama's worshipers?

It was a gotcha question anyway, designed so that no matter how she answered it would have been "wrong." She's not Obama's close friend; all she probably DOES know about his religious life is "what he says." And had she refused to answer she would have been accused of a) not defending Obama; b) agreeing that he is a Muslim.

21. "No"
See how simple that is. One word.

"Barack Obama is not a Muslim." Six words.

Simple. Easy. And no room for doubt.

Unfortunately, Hillary wanted to leave room for doubt so she needed many, many more words.

23. What the hell else is she supposed to say
She should have never answered that question, instead tell the reporter, that "there is nothing wrong with being a Muslim, in this country people are free to worship as they please. That in this country, we do not use religious tests to pick our leaders."

I believe that answer would have satisfied all AMERICANS. Not just Obama supporters.

Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 11:51 PM by anamandujano
that means he's a terrorist or something?

As far as anyone knows, he may be a Muslim. How would she know for sure? He said he wasn't. She had no reason to believe otherwise.

End of story.

38. You're hilarious
You act all innocent and ask "why is it supposed to be bad?" but then you turn around and imply that he might be lying about it. "As far as anyone knows, he may be a Muslim." Oh yeah? Why would he lie? According to you there's nothing bad about it so there would be no reason to lie.

Clinton apologists need to get their stories straight.

22. Right. Obama supporters would like Hillary to jump up and down
and shout: no, of course he is not Muslim. I know this for a fact!

She told the truth. He says that he is not and she believes him.

I suppose she could have added that even if he were, there is nothing wrong with this, of course. But no matter what, her words would be taken apart and manipulated to fit the desired flame.

She should have better instincts of not answering loaded questions, hell politicians are great at saying a whole hell of a lot and not saying anything.

Or she could have taken the high road, and called this reporter on the carpet, his shitty tactics.

34. I like this person's response:
She gave him back his own line, that's what he said when she denied she was behind that drudge photo and he was asked it that was good enough for him He said I take her at her word, and then his campaign kept blaming her for the photo the next day. I know, it's subtle, you have to be listening, but she was messing with him, giving him a taste of his own rhetoric. How come this dairy isn't upset that she xeroxed his line? It's plagiarism, or irony. Which to you think, Ghost friend, I think it's a very funny joke that went over a few heads.

I couldn't have said it better: "I take him at his word", just like he took her at her word..............or so he said.

someone at their word they are "christian. I suspect that maybe words and deeds have a lot to do whether are not one can view another as christian. If a person through their words say this and through their deeds do something different then i would say NO!

Obama did not practice his christianity when he sat back and watched his surrogates and the msm tear apart Bill and Hillary Clinton. Accusing them of being bigots and racists. Now the truth is beginning to filter out that it was the obama campaing that actually played teh race card and then race baited and informed the press it was the Clintons.....

Obama in my eyes is a reprobate, and maybe he better repair the hole in his own soul before he tries to tackle the whole country in mending the holes he says are there in the people's soul.
