It's nice to be realistic as well.
For example, I know the difference between romantic love and admiration for an elected official. I know that politicians are politicians and I have no illusions about our prospects for definitive change, no matter which Democrat wins the GE.
I've watched Democratic Presidents take office and break their promises or be rendered unable to make definitive change, due to Republican obstruction. I know that if Barack Obama gets done one quarter of what he promises, we'll be better off as a nation. I know that Hillary Clinton is also a better choice than any Republican.
I have always stated that the kind of person we need as president will never run for president.
I choose Barack Obama, not because I think he is super-human or because I like his face. I choose him because he's the best choice I've had in my 20 years of voting. Brilliant, energetic, influential, unpolluted and even-tempered.
You choose whomever you want.

11. One woman asks a great question, linking the coming war with the economy |
|
She mentions that the war will (and, of course has) be a drain on our economy, which affects women and children disproportionately.
Hillary gets visibly wound up over that question and goes on making a case for blowing Iraqis to bits.

Hilliary was wrong. Code Pink had a better perspective. |
|
This was not Kosavo. It was a twisted Rovian concoction that took a difficult and tense situation and applied the Middle East remake plan to control the oil and give an easy method of infiltration to the area under guise of war.
Sorry, Hillary you were either to close or to easily convinced that this was a similar situation.
Then again, wasn't their an exit strategy in Kosavo and a prepared and well planned campaign to handle the peace keeping efforts? Shouldn't she have known from Bush's record that he must be closely examined and never trusted to execute a clean and thought out production unless it's to benefit his oil people?

Politics politics.... it fascinates and disgusts. What I like is that Code Pink has the balls (yes, these women have balls!) to stand up for their position and they are steadfast. I live near S.F. and I see all the time how they are so persistent and resolute. Admittedly some of their tactics are extreme and so people label them as loony. However their message has never changed. HRC could take a lesson or two from them. Probably most politicians could.

they found nothing and he had destroyed missiles. In her case, it doesn't seem like she is saying the diplomacy is not exhausted and teh inspectors are still doing productive work.

She supported the war. I don't care what kind of weasel words she used to give herself an out. The bottom line is she did not use the leverage her and Bill have to lead an opposition to the war.

I remember in 2003, waiting for the Clintons to get on TV and argue for giving "peace a chance" and giving the inspectors more time. The fact that Saddam demanded that there would be no coverage on Iraqi TV of missiles being destroyed showed that he feared that it could weaken his hold on the government. There were also still stories of a brokered deal on our TV. There were no people in the Democratic people with the power, ability to get TV and the gravitas of the Clintons. Gore had spoken out, but the obvious and understandable anger he showed had let the media marginalize him.
This is why Bill's "I was always against the war" was so repugnant. He did not lead when he may have been the only one with the real ability to do so.

40. I agree with you here |
|
Before the 2006 election, Bill Clinton made the point that none of the Democrats voted for war, but to get the inspectors in and to give Bush leverage at the UN (from memory - so wording not exact). This is the line that HRC has used since then. The problem is that on something as serious as this, if you did give your vote to give Bush leverage to do as he promised, wouldn't you speak out. You put your good name on the line and you should be even angrier than the people who didn't? By March 4, it was clear Bush was going to war and unless there were parts cut out, there is nothing here that is calling for slowing the rush to war.
HRC was also NOT one of the people who signed John Kerry's 2005 letter to the intelligence committee demanding that Part 2 of the intelligence report be completed and that the Downing Street memos be examined as part of this effort. If you signed your name to the IWR, partially due to lies, wouldn't you want sunlight on the people who lied to you?

someone needs to combine her speech here with any of the 100s of reels out there of her denying that the IRW was a vote for military action.

It really illustrates what is wrong with Sen. Clinton. She tries to defend the indefensible and ends up on the wrong side. She should have been out there singing for peace with those people but instead just repeated what she heard Dumbya say about chemical weapons and other nonsense.
