What if there were WMDs? Hillary knew there was potential danger
She did the responsible thing.Urge inspections and denounce invasion.
With Bush giving her his personal assurance that he would pursue inspections, the threat of use of force should have only been used as leverage.
But Bush lied and people died.
Imagine if Obama had been a Senator and stopped any Iraq resolution ,and
then Iraq used a nuke a year later.
Would Obama have taken an irresponsible action?

Inspections were the best action and thats what Hillary called for.
She deserves credit for acting responsibly .
But its likely Obama would have voted yes or not been present for IWR.

3. Goddamn, a lot of "what ifs".
We knew Saddam was NOT a threat. We knew there were no WMD's. Poor judgment is what every person who supported this illegal war exercised.

4. What if the UFO's come and snatch you out of your bed tonight and
whisk you away to planet Zarkon?

What if Santa really does have to get down and up your chimney to leave you presents?

No more fantasyland.

She blew it. We knew it at the time.
End of discussion.

19. That's not even a fair comparison!
Some idiots (read: congress) thought that Saddam had WMDs because he used to have them. It isn't fair to compare that to thinking that UFOs will "snatch you out of your bed tonight and whisk you away to planet Zarkon" for the simple reason that everyone knows that there isn't, and never was a planet Zarkon!

It's planet Doom, which is ruled by King Zarkon! Jeez.

Now if you said "What if the UFO's come and snatch you out of your bed tonight and whisk you away to planet Orilla?" then that would have been a more apt comparison, since everyone knows that Orilla used to be the Asgard homeworld, but isn't anymore since the planet was destroyed.

24. The UN had ordered the weapons inspectors out of Iraq in 1998.
There were several sites of interest that the inspectors were not given access to. They were not allowed back in Iraq until November, 2002. The IWR was intended, in part, to provide leverage to force Saddam to allow for inspections, so you could argue the resolution to be successful in that respect.

40. And then retracted that agreement.
August 2002 Iraq invites chief weapons inspector to Baghdad for talks on resuming inspections

Sept 12, 2002 US President George W. Bush addresses a special session of the UN, calls for multilateral action against Iraq. Iraq responds by announcing it will allow inspections unconditionally, but quickly retracts the offer, making it conditional on no new US resolutions.

Sept 22 ,2002 British PM Tony Blair releases dossier showing Iraq has significant WMD capabilities, in an effort to gain support for British role in projected US invasion.

Nov 8, 2002 UN Security Council Resolution 1441 calls on Iraq to cooperate with UN inspection teams and not to obstruct UN forces. Iraq must declare all weapons of mass destruction in its possession by December 8, 2002. UNMOVIC inspection teams began inspecting sites in Iraq.

43. Clinton was about to bomb 100 targets
Richard Butler is on the record as saying that US Ambassador Peter Burleigh (on orders from Clinton) told him to get out because the US and UK were going to bomb Iraq.
So yes, Butler told them to get out, but not because of non-compliance, but because Operation Desert Fox was about to blow up the inspection sites.

16. Momma always said
if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump it ass a hoppin. Whole lot of if's in the OP...many of us knew Bush was lying without the benefit of the NIE (Which she had failed to even read, but instead opt for the "reader's digest" version)

They used Powell and his presentation to sell it to the people and the world, and they had to use DRAWINGS instead of real actual photos and data.

Whole lot of if's killed hundreds of thousands of people, and sunk this nation to the level of barbarians, where we torture human beings now.

I have plenty of IF's too, If Gore had been president, he wouldnt have ingored all the warnings, and hundreds of thousands of people would be alive today...But if a frog had wings....

Iraq agreed to the uncondintional return of the inspectors 3 weeks BEFORE the IWR vote.

The vote had NOTHING to do with inspectors who were going back into the country whether there was a vote or not.

It was a cowardly vote for war... nothing more... nothing less.

it helps perpetuate and excuse the lies Bush told to mislead the public. Iraq did not have WMD's and there was enough evidence to know Bush was lying. The last three chief weapon's inspectors all said Bush was lying to the public.

Just ask Scott Ritter, or Will Pitt, or any number of other people. Iraq was already a disaster zone, completely destroyed by sanctions, and the WMD's they had were supplied by the U.S. and past their use by date. You have no idea what you are talking about.
