Edwards Adviser Endorses Obama
Leo Hindery, Jr.

Why I'm Endorsing Barack Obama

Posted March 3, 2008 | 10:00 AM (EST)

I was privileged to be presidential candidate John Edwards' Senior Economic Policy Advisor, but today I am just as honored to endorse Senator Barack Obama. And I do so for precisely the same reasons I long and enthusiastically supported and helped John Edwards.

At Senator's Obama's very core, and at the core of his Campaign and its economic policies, are his abiding commitments to working men and women and to economic fairness. And the critically important policy issues associated with his core values, and how he proposes to specifically address them, are what are now defining the national election.

Like John Edwards, Barack Obama seeks effective public policy aimed at sustained growth, full employment, an end to poverty, and progress toward solving the major social and environmental problems associated with health care, education, trade, taxation and climate change.

Barack Obama believes in change, but not change for change's sake or change, as some are proposing, in the guise of tried but failed policies. His belief in change is all about the American Dream being once again every American's dream.

Barack Obama believes in vigorously enforcing our existing domestic labor laws and standards. He believes in all workers having an easy and unrestricted ability to join a union, including part-time and contract workers. And he believes in affording low-wage workers the "mobility" they need in order to earn something more than low wages.

Barack Obama believes in fairer and more progressive individual income taxation, taxation which will see every American once again paying his or her fair share. How can anyone but the wealthiest of Americans be satisfied with an economy which has seen forty percent of all economic growth over the past 20 years go to only the top one percent of American families? Where half of the nation's individual income now goes to just 2% of the taxpayers?

3. Richardson on Sunday sounded a bit like Lewis, without the intensity.
He spoke about how he was such good friends, and how difficult of a decision it was to make. From then on out - most everything he said was pro-obama. I think we'll have a winner by the end of the week.

4. maybe Obama is about to dump his economic advisor who now has been outted as lying about meeting
with the Canadians..

the memo was released by CNN and shown this morning proving Obama's economic advisor AUSTAN GOOLSBEE who is a neo liberal from Univ Of Chicago..that he did indeed tell the Canadians that Obama's NAFTA talk is to bascially pacify American voters..and he is just "KIDDING"..

so maybe now Obama needs a new Senior Economic Policy Advisor...eh?

gee first Obama lies to the voters in Iowa..about Nucklear regulations he didn't get passed..

now he is lying to the voters in Ohio about NAFTA..who really believes the Repigs aren't going to jump all over these lies?? who here is still that naive???????

9. This is getting uncomfortable to watch.........
a memo that seems to back up the Canadian Television story and ABC News follow-up reports indicating that IBM's campaign sent signals to our neighbors to the North that his anti-NAFTA rhetoric should not be taken seriously. Is Obama reaching out to Edwards people for authenticity? Well, that is the way I see it. It is interesting that the man with the best policy's for this country should have to suspend his campaign, but those lacking in real change need to seek his campaign workers.

11. The memo was a summary of a meeting. There were no direct quotes.
Therefore, it is impossible to know whether these NAFTA claims were specifically implied by Goolsbee, whether that is what the memo author WANTED to hear (and thus heard), or if the memo author had a desire to present what he heard differently.

There is so much spin these days from all sides that I only believe what I read in quotation marks. I'm sick of being manipulated by other people's "interpretations". If Goolsbee becomes directly quoted as saying that NAFTA reform is just political positioning then, yes, he may have to go. Not as a patsy, but because an adviser must not misrepresent his candidate's positions. Obama's clear position is to get tough on NAFTA.
