Vermont Woman Newspaper Endorses Hillary for President
Press Release

3/1/2008

Vermont Woman Newspaper Endorses Hillary for President

Vermont Woman Newspaper, an award-winning publication with over 50,000 readers across the Green Mountain State, has endorsed Hillary for President.

In the endorsement, editors call Hillary the "best qualified candidate to become the next President of the United States," and cite her "deep knowledge of every complex issue facing this nation - coupled with a command of policy and solutions," among the reasons for their decision.

Click http://www.vermontwoman.com/home.shtml">here to read the endorsement.

The full text of the endorsement follows.

HILLARY CLINTON: OUR PRIMARY CHOICE

The overwhelming power of the inspirational rhetoric and thin resume of Senator Barack Obama - versus the candidate with clearly-defined experience, deep knowledge of every complex issue facing this nation - coupled with a command of policy and solutions; the person who also has the best chance of actually working with Congress to get results... there is no question:

We believe Hillary Clinton is the best qualified candidate to become the next President of the United States.

At this time in our history, following the hideous eight years of the Bush Administration, our country is a mess. It seems everyone is upset or depressed and even frightened at the direction of our once great country. No wonder change is such a compelling point word of everyone's campaign.

Change is coming no matter who is elected.

We asked the hard question: Change... to What?

And we found that the most substantive answers have been carefully considered and articulated by Senator Hillary Clinton.

Change is needed now in our energy and environmental policies, to address the health care crisis, stem the soaring rise in oil and gas prices, the greed of corporations, the instability in the Middle East, disease and poverty in Africa... to name just a few. There is so much that must be done just to begin to right our tilting ship, and at the same time to protect our country, end the war in Iraq, and pay down our massive debt owned mostly by China, and grow our own economy.

And these issues are critical. All of them. And they will need to be addressed immediately by the next president.

The presidency of the United States is not a training ground for inspiring speechmakers. It is the most important job in the world - and our country and our children are counting on us to make the right choice.

We urge you to read Hillary Clinton's positions on all the issues that concern you on her Web site. Take the time to do this no matter who you are planning on voting for. You owe it to yourself.

We believe that experience and inspiring leadership are absolutely essential: and we believe Hillary has plenty of both.

And by the way. We think it's quite an inspiration to have the first woman ever come this close to winning the top job in the country.

8. Yup.
Watching her move through this primary with such courage and grace in the face of such vicious hatred and bias,my admiration for her has grown so much.I know I couldn't do it.

7. nice endorsement but won't change anything
its nice to see hillary getting an endorsement, but it's not a surprise, and since it comes from a feminist organization it won't hold much weight since everybody knows who the feminists will vote for in this election.

hillary is down by 24 points in vermont though, so it won't matter anyway

"Since it comes from a feminist organization it won't hold much weight since we know who they're voting for"...

Not 'all' feminist organizations have endorsed her...I think this endorsement holds plenty of weight, I appreciate it as much as I do any other.

35. yes its such a shock that a group of women is endorsing hillary
"vermont woman" might be a fine paper, but to suggest that this endorsement carries lots of weight among the general electorate is a huge stretch. a woman's organization endorsing the only female

i won't speculate on the demographic makeup of the readership of vermont woman, but its highly unlikely to change the projected 25% differential to make up in vermont.

"yes its such a shock that a group of blacks is endorsing Obama

"vermont black" might be a fine paper, but to suggest that this endorsement carries lots of weight among the general electorate is a huge stretch. a black organization endorsing the only black

i won't speculate on the demographic makeup of the readership of vermont african american, but its highly unlikely to change the projected 25% differential to make up in vermont. "

...right.Belittling and disregarding this endorsement based on the fact that is coming from a "womans" organization doesn't work.Whether or not it will have an effect on the primary is another topic altogether.

Again, I appreciate this endorsement from a critically acclaimed and well respected newspaper as much as I do any other endorsement.

47. yours is a terrible analogy
and i'm not belittling the endorsement.

its about as shocking, unexpected, and influential as "oil tycoons endorse president gw bush" or "the baseball owners club of america endorses president gw bush"

in other words, i betcha that 99.9% of the readership of vermont woman have already made up their minds about who they are going to vote for. same deal with the oil tycoons. this endorsement isn't changing anyone's minds because it won't be viewed as objective. does anybody honestly believe that vermont woman newspaper would actually endorse obama?

54. lol, your post is double speak at its finest.
This well respected and award winning newspaper is connected with the Democratic Party and has been endorsing Candidates for years. The fact that they are NOW endorsing a woman makes their endorsement biased and irrelevant?

You can't have it both ways;either you're saying the endorsement is irrelevant BECAUSE it's a womans newspaper or you're not.Which is it?I can't tell from the double speak you posted.

:)

They are a very respected paper that covers women and women's issues. They have at famous woman speaker once year, an event that is very well attended by present and past state Democratic leaders, and progressives. I've gone to see Valerie Plame recently, and last year veteran journalist Helen Thomas.

33. it's not a news kind of newspaper.
Sort of like Seven Days, but mainly only about women. Well written stories.

But, the event they put on once a year gets about 1,000 Democratic Party activists and progressives. Bernie Sanders, Pat Leahy, Madeline Kunin, Phil Hoff are usually in attendance. It's sort of the political "feel good" event of the year.
