How did you find Democratic Underground? Be honest.
I found it back in 2002 or earlier (says I've been here since 2002...) through Will Pitt's post on Democrats.com, and I still have to thank Bob Fertik and David Lytel for giving me a solace after the stolen election of '00, and followed William Pitt into DU, and has been my home ever since then - I took a ban for breaking the rules during the '04 primaries/GE which I was reinstated shortly after the re-stolen election, and have been here since. I'm taking it easy this year - just going to support the eventual nominee whoever it may be, but Obama is my guy, and I will vote for Hillary in the GE if I have to.

I was going through massive stress. I found it through democrats.com, also.

I liked it better then, because we were all united against a common foe. Now we're tearing apart each other. That is new, and I think it's even different from 2004.

84. same here
I loved Johnkerry.com and was looking for a place afterwards. I first voted in 1972 - this was the elections that affected me the most. I still think that although it would have been incredibly difficult, he would now have had this country in a much better place. It is odd to think that he would now be running for what might be a tough re-election. I would hope that by know his real honesty and genuineness would have been seen by enough people to let him continue. One think he would likely have been trying to do was what he spoke of wanting himself and the other veterans to be part of doing in 1971 - turning American foreign policy in the right direction. Now, those hopes rest with Obama - and his vision.

36. If you recall Skinner and Earl held up a spray painted sheet at the inaugural in 2001
During the parade. It had

www.democraticunderground.com

on it.
Disgusted and depressed, I grabbed the nearest piece of paper - a cocktail napkin- and wrote it down, and tossed it in my desk drawer.

Fast forward to 9/11. I sensed the media was bullshitting like crazy- how could the FBI have the names and addresses of the hijackers a DAY later unless they were watching them, and if they were watching them, what happened to prevent them from stopping it? Where was Bush? Why was Cheney doing the talking? Etc.

I reached into my desk drawer for a pen to jot these questions down. There it was. www.DemocraticUnderground.com.

49. A few days after the Frontline program titled 'The Plea'. I did
a google search hoping to find others as outraged as I over what had happened in Hearne, Tx and poor Erma Faye Stewart in particular.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/plea/four/stewart.html

I ended up getting quite involved and had several telephone calls with Regina Kelly (one of the plaintiffs), Ofra Bikel (the producer), the probation officer involved, the local DA. After paying her fine and arrears, I got a letter from Erma Faye that I treasure.

I found a few related posts and sympathizers on DU and have been here since.

Back in the 90's I used to post on a board at a site focusing on green politics. (doesn't exist anymore). Toward the end of that sites run (following the 2000 sElection) we started engaging in sparring matches with Freepers on various environmental political topics, and I saw a mention of a "new" site (and it was a brand new site at the time) called DemocraticUnderground. As I recall, lots of people were drawing connections between the name DemocraticUnderground and the WeatherUnderground (aka the Weathermen, a 60's radical group that would be labeled as terrorist today). The discussions about this "new Democratic terrorist site" got my curiosity up enough to pay it a visit. I never left.

and came across William Rivers Pitt's essay "Stand Your Ground"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/articles/02/02/02_ground.html

Reading it gave me a jolt and shook me out of a morose sleepwalking mood I had been feeling since 9/11.

I was lurking around DU for a few weeks when came a thread about John Ashcroft singing Let The Eagle Soar in early March 2002. I laughed myself silly reading the comments, then kicked myself for not being able to get a word in myself.

Right then and there, I decided I was not going to miss out on the fun anymore, so I joined up and sent a few $$ to DU.

:kick:

65. I believe through a Buzzflash link.
After the 2000 selection I was searching for anti-Bush websites, came across Buzzflash first and that lead me to DU. I lurked a while in 2001 and then signed up later that year.

Actually, I think I found DU through the Bartcop Forum just after the MSNBC political forums closed down in December, 2001, but I really didn't post here until 2004

76. The enemy of my enemy is my friend
A few years back I was on FSTDT and I followed a link to a hysterically clueless thread at freeperville. I scanned through the bat shit crazy threads there and found out about a site they hated called democraticunderground.com. I said to myself, "Self, if these fucktards hate that place it must be the place for me". I usually just read here, but I signed up so I don't get locked out tomorrow.

81. An email list back in '01
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 04:18 PM by Chovexani
I forgot what it was called (Truth something or other), but it was a list that formed during the recount fiasco. Basically it was for exchanging info regarding Repuke fraud shenanigans in FL and later became a way to coordinate protests for the Inauguration. A month or two later someone posted a link to this brand new message board for Democrats called DU. I hopped on over and have been here ever since (I lost my original SN's password, but my then-gf at the time was Kaori and would post from time to time).

Not sure how much longer I'll be here, the way things are going around here.

86. I occasionally perused through a right-wing site
and this "DU" was frequently mentioned. Some would visit here and go back there to "report" on what was going on here. I decided to visit myself. This was just a couple of months ago...I think. I found it by following the link one of their regulars put up...and then I joined. ;-)

Referred by a post on another website. Had another screen name back then. Left after 2004 election. Came back after recovering from disillusion and apathy.

96. God, I wish I could remember....
Could it have been through Buzzflash?

I think when I joined, I was searching for information on Iraq, Bush, and how badly Bush wanted to get into it with Iraq. I've tried and tried to remember how I found DU. Maybe talk show host Bernie Ward mentioned it? Could that have been it? Or did he mention Buzzflash, which took me to DU? Yikes.... It made sense at the time.

No, maybe it was this: Bernie Ward on his radio program mentioned a website, that was not Buzzflash, but was a good Dem site, but they had a link to Dem Underground... I think that was it.

99. Fog of War - November 2004
I stumbled across DU via black box voting in the first days after the Kerry loss, me being a voter from FL in 2000 and 04 I was lost and I found DU. My start date shows otherwise, but there is a story behind that.
