Clinton Campaign Confident
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 04:01 PM by bigtree

TOLEDO, Ohio – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that she expects to do well in critical contests in Ohio and Texas and that she is in for the long-haul against Barack Obama.

Dismissing pundits who suggest she needs to get out of the race if she whiffs on Tuesday, Mrs. Clinton asserted, “I’m just getting warmed up.”

“I know what’s happening and I believe we’re going to do well tomorrow, and I believe that that’s going to be a very significant message to the country. And then we move onto Pennsylvania and the states still ahead,” she said.

“We’ve got lots of people who are prepared to go to their caucuses. We’re reminding everybody it’s a two step process . . . it's a Texas two-step and we’ve been, you know, practicing to be able to dance our way to victory,” she said.

TOLEDO, Ohio — “Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn’t you like to get away?”

The music behind those words, the opening lyrics to the theme from the long-running TV sitcom “Cheers,” ran through the minds of everyone aboard Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign plane as it departed from Cleveland late Sunday with actor Ted Danson and wife Mary Steenburgen aboard.

Clinton and the pair of celebrity supporters made their way back to the press area of her chartered 737 where she introduced Steenburgen, the Oscar-winning star of “Melvin and Howard” and a veteran of numerous other films, as a friend of 27 years, and Danson, the star of “Cheers” and “Becker,” as a friend for 14 years.

After a full day of campaigning in Ohio in advance of primaries in the Buckeye state and in Texas on Tuesday that could determine the fate of her campaign, Clinton said she didn’t believe a protracted nominating process would hurt the eventual Democratic nominee.

“No. I don’t,” she said. “Look, hard fought primary contests are part of American politics. We’re going to have a unified Democratic Party. We’re going to get behind whoever our nominee is and we’re going to win in November. That’s what I think is going to happen.”

TOLEDO, OH, March 3 -- It's 5:41am, and Hillary Clinton is standing just inside the factory gate at a Chrysler plant, greeting workers as they come through the turnstile. (http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2008/03/spread_the_word.html)

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, who has campaigned for her extensively in the state, and California Rep. Laura Richardson are with the senator as she poses for pictures and asks for support in the pre-dawn hours one day before voters hit the polls in a contest that will help decide her political fate.

"I'll work hard for you," Clinton says as she shakes hands with workers. "I need your help tomorrow. I need you to get everybody to come out and vote."

Clinton has visited several factories in Ohio in recent days, part of an effort to emphasize her commitment to helping revive the state's economy and the nation's manufacturing industry. She often says in speeches that a country that doesn't make things cannot grow.

“Help me out tomorrow, please,” she implored as workers passed by. “I’d be honored to have your vote.” (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/03/clinton-shakes-the-pre-dawn-hands/)

The reactions from the workers ranged from thrilled to startled. “Hillary, all right!” exclaimed one. “Hillary Clinton, you’re a very strong woman,” said another.

“Hillary, you look so young!” enthused a third. Mrs. Clinton, 60, liked that. “Did everyone hear that? Did you get it on tape?” she asked the cameramen clustered around her.

Clinton vows to press on
By Brian Knowlton and John M. Broder
Monday, March 3, 2008

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, campaigning all-out Monday in Ohio and Texas, said that she would press on after key primaries Tuesday, even as her campaign played down earlier talk that she might drop out if she failed to win either of the two crucial presidential primaries.

The New York senator told reporters in Toledo, Ohio, that the measure of success for her on Tuesday - Vermont and Rhode Island are also holding primaries - would be simply "winning." She said she would press on into Pennsylvania, which votes April 22, and elsewhere after the primaries Tuesday, saying, "I'm just getting warmed up."
.............

But her advisers sought to shift the pressure for big results onto Obama, and seemed to retreat from suggestions - including from the candidate's husband, former President Bill Clinton - that Hillary Clinton needed to win at least the big states Tuesday to remain viable.

"With all his momentum, favorable press coverage and money, anything short of a decisive victory in the four states voting this week will be a major disappointment for Senator Obama and his campaign," Phil Singer, a Clinton spokesman, said in an e-mail. "If he can't win under those circumstances, one has to wonder why."

Clinton aides say that Obama has had two earlier opportunities to essentially bury Clinton - in New Hampshire, following his surprise victory in Iowa, and on "Super Tuesday," following his big victory in South Carolina. Yet, both times she bounced back and survived.

.............

Many of the party's superdelegates, mostly senior Democratic officials potentially crucial to the nomination, are impatient to coalesce around a winning candidate...........

The latest polls show Texas as a statistical dead heat, while Clinton retains a small lead in Ohio. The New York senator would probably need a robust turnout among Hispanics in Texas and of white women in Ohio to prevail.

Clinton hardly acted like a defeated woman Monday, however. After arriving in Toledo past midnight, she arose well before dawn to shake hands at an auto plant gate at 5:35 a.m.

The reactions from the workers ranged from thrilled to startled.

"Hillary, all right!" exclaimed one. "Hillary Clinton, you're a very strong woman," said another.

She planned to work nonstop throughout the day, with rallies in Toledo and in Beaumont, Texas, then two town-hall style meetings in Austin, Texas.

But to overcome Obama's lead in the all-important delegates to the national nominating convention, Clinton will need more than close victories. Under rules used by the Ohio Democratic Party to allocate the 141 delegates at stake, a resounding victory is needed to win a preponderance of delegates.

On the other hand, if Clinton carries both Ohio and Texas, Obama could find himself in for a protracted, wrenching battle.

"There are 16 remaining contests after Tuesday," said Clinton's chief strategist, Mark Penn. "There's nothing wrong with letting the people in the remaining jurisdictions have their say."

Some analysts speculate that Clinton's sympathetic supporters might still vote in large numbers to save her candidacy.

"She has a shot" at carrying both Texas and Ohio, James Carville, her husband's former strategist, said Sunday.

She just looks so strong, so fresh, so ready. There's still a ton of fight left to her, and I don't think this is over yet by a longshot.

I think all the whiney obama zealots that keep spouting out their "2 more days! only 2 more days" blah blah blah crap, are going to be quite disappointed to realize that it just ain't gonna be the way they want it to be.

20. Private Worries as Team Clinton Looks for Best Case Scenarios

Private Worries as Team Clinton Looks for Best Case Scenarios

March 02, 2008 7:55 PM

ABC News' Kate Snow and Eloise Harper report: As she makes her way across Ohio, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is preaching optimism.

"I have seen in the last weeks, the resilience, and the grit and the determination of the people of Youngstown, and across Ohio, and we’re going to win!" she told voters in Youngstown, Sunday.

But privately, Clinton campaign advisors say their own internal polls show the race tightening in Ohio and remaining very close in Texas.

"We're going to go full bore and see what happens," a senior advisor told ABC News, Sunday.

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is outspending Clinton on the airwaves by about two to one. And in some markets, Clinton aides say they believe he has spent closer to three times as much on advertising.

"I've never seen the likes of this," said the advisor.

In their best case scenario, Clinton aides hope she could win Ohio by 3 to 6 points and squeak out a victory in Texas. They would consider that a good night and reason to fight on to Pennsylvania, which holds its primary on April 22.

Other scenarios, they admit, are not so pretty.

As usual, we have almost no idea what's going to happen tomorrow. My guess is that Hillary will do better than expected (fear and racism works) but she won't get nearly the victory she needs to hold off superdelegate defections, major Obama endorsements and calls for her to drop out.

56. she needs to stay in for the sake of the party and the country
now that SNL shamed the media into FINALLY WAKING UP AND COVERING THE OBAMA CANDIDACY, folks need time to really find out what Obama is all about and make their judgements accordingly.

If Obama is properly vetted between now and Pennsylvania and he wins the nomination, the party will be better for it because they will be making an informed choice.

If Obama is properly vetted between now and Pennsylvania and she wins the nomination, I'll personally be thrilled because I believe that she is the best candidate.

57. She should be confident. She will probably win. Remember, you only have to destroy the
spirit and enthusiasm of a small sub-group, not the entire group.

62. She's A Genuinely Strong Woman
And that's why so many people hate and fear her.

Opponents might do well to respect her tenacity, because it is one of the qualities that demonstrate what a superior Chief Executive she is capable of becoming.

You don't develop that kind of focused staying power by job-hopping.

64. Fine.
Next three contests are WY, MS, and PA.

WY--small caucus state. Probable Obama.

MS--huge black population, usual red state. Probable Obama.

PA--Clinton's lead is less than 10, with 2 months to go.

SHE NEEDS TO KILL HIM TOMORROW, FOLKS--AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE THOSE KINDS OF LEADS.

Such a wonderful, strong woman.

That lady with the red hair and the green shirt looks familiar... the one by Ted Danson. Either that or she reminds me of someone but I don't know.

What does Mary think about that? Unless you don't mean "lady friend" as my grandma means "lady friend"? :)

Anyway, I thought she looked familiar.

of the election day. I had gotten impatient and used the day's before. I found the election day pics of Sen Clinton and replaced these in the post I had just made with the updated ones. They were pretty good too:
