CNN announced a new web site
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 04:43 PM by UALRBSofL
putting pressure on superdelegates to switch to Obama

The web site is: Colorofchange.org

Changing the color of democracy:
Wolf Blitzer was just talking about it and stated SD's like Maxine Waters were being pressured to switch to Obama.

4. anonymous, actually I haven't
I've been on the phone half the day with social security, medicare and Medicaid offices. You know how the federal government is, they transfer you to every place but the office you need.

6. MISLEADING... the website advocates for a number of issues
relating to black political empowerment, started in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. This one sounds like an HRC smear.

http://www.colorofchange.org/about.html

What Is ColorOfChange.org?

ColorOfChange.org exists to strengthen Black America's political voice. Our goal is to empower our members—Black Americans and our allies—to make government more responsive to the concerns of Black Americans and to bring about positive political and social change for everyone.

We were heart-broken and outraged by the catastrophe that followed Hurricane Katrina. And we were devastated to realize that no African-American organization or coalition had the capacity to respond on the necessary scale.

Hurricane Katrina made it clear that our lack of a political voice has life-and-death consequences. With no one to speak for them, hundreds of thousands of people—largely Black, poor, and elderly—were left behind to die. But it wasn't just Black folks. Poor, sick, and elderly people of every color were abandoned too. We are not alone, and when we work to protect Black lives and interests, we do the same for all who have been left behind in political silence.

ColorOfChange.org is comprised of Black folks from every economic class, as well as those of every color who seek to help our voices be heard. Our members are united behind a simple, powerful pledge: we will do all we can to make sure all Americans are represented, served, and protected—regardless of race or class.

7. That website was NOT started to "pressure" superdelegates.
Have you been there?

Yes, there is a drive to contact superdelegates and request that their convention vote represent the will of their constituents, but that is not the only focus of the website.

Here is the first paragraph of their mission statement:

ColorOfChange.org exists to strengthen Black America's political voice. Our goal is to empower our members—Black Americans and our allies—to make government more responsive to the concerns of Black Americans and to bring about positive political and social change for everyone.

Is that something you can't support? Or did you just jump all over this without having done your homework because you wanted to get the anti-Obama scoop?

16. It's the super-delegate petition... right up top
Tell CBC superdelegates to uphold the will of the voters

As "superdelegates" in a close race for the Democratic nomination, members of the Congressional Black Caucus have the ability to vote for whoever they like and could undermine the will of the voting public and the voters they represent.

Though voters in most CBC districts overwhelmingly supported Barack Obama, some CBC members are threatening to vote against their constituents, and perhaps against the will of the American people, by casting their superdelegate vote for Senator Clinton. We can prevent this from happening by letting Black leadership know we're watching.

It will take courage and conviction for CBC members to break with back-room politics and stand up for democracy. But we must demand it. Call on members of the Congressional Black Caucus to cast their superdelegate vote in support of the will of voters.

17. Oh, I see it now. Sorry, his name wasn't on the first three pages I looked at on that site.
So, er, that doesn't exactly sound like it's "threatening." It's suggesting to voters that if they want their representatives to represent them, they should call them and ask it. Do you find that offensive?
