Are we just begging to lose?

I swear, the freepers must be rolling in the aisles looking at us tear our party apart.

Get with it, people! This is the one time in far too many years where we have the wind at our back, and what do we do? Do we band together? No! We trash the candidates in our own party!

You want Obama, then post "Obama's the best - vote Obama". You want Hillary, then post "Hillary's the best, vote Hillary".

But we don't SEE that. It's okay to have competition within the party, but I see one side saying the most vile things about the other side and making horrible accusations, to the point of viscerally hating the other candidate.

Each candidate has their own strengths and weaknesses. If elected, they will run different administrations, but they WON'T BE THE GOP in the White House. That's the BIG PICTURE, folks! Even if your candidate doesn't get the election, PLEASE help the one that does secure the office of President of the United States. This country is going to hell in a handbasket REAL QUICK. It's not just international relations, our economy is tanking too. We can probably hang on until January, but another four years of this stuff? We can't do it. Little picture: support your candidate, but don't trash the other, and support whoever wins the nomination. Big picture: get a Democrat into the White House, and as many other offices as possible.

Put your ego aside - this is a real fight. I've never seen it so critical.

2. Perhaps we should adhere to the 11th Commandment of GOP politics...
Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican

That's the one thing they're good at: banding together despite the inanity of their candidate. See what happened 8 years ago? You can't get more inane then that!

3. I think we will rally together in the end. Tough debtates now will only make our candidate stronger
The infighting and accusations aside, I feel that our party is going to be better for this debate in the long term. BOTH of the candidates have had to shape and lay out more ideas and recognize the base of the party again. I hate seeing this divide as most people due, but by the time November rolls around we will be unified under the Democratic banner. I feel that either candidate will be so battle tested that they will be able to defeat McCain in debates when the GenElection rolls around.

6. I agree with the poster but also with you
I think the time has come that we don't want to drag our candidates through more mud than needed.

However, I do think it has been good to getall the slime out now. What the hell could the Repukes bring up about Obama or Hillary that they haven't brought up about each other?

4. Yes, the vitriol needs to stop
That "Big Fat (Right-Wing) Idiot" is calling today for Repugs to vote for Clinton, just so they can "drag the soap opera out."

And a soap opera it is!

I am SO disgusted by the hatred and vitriol I see. And (maybe because I'm a Clinton supporter?) it seems most of it is directed at Hillary. I just read another poster in another forum spew something about "her flaming ass" in Pennsylvania (which is my home state). I can't believe the hatred out there!

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY DEMOCRATIC PARTY???

Crying today, and every day since this hatefest started. Very very sad.

8. No offense, and please realize that I honor your right to choose
a candidate of your choice.

However, Hillary has EARNED a passionate dislike from many democrats. Her behavior in Hillary-Care in the 90s was but one reason. Her behavior in this campaign is another.

10. Welcome to DU!
:hi:

I think both candidates are targets of way more hate than they could ever deserve.
All the vitriol should be directed at "100 more years of war" McCain.

5. I think it's not so much about the candidates but that the primaries give some people the outlet to
be the ass holes they really are.

It's protection because it's in the name of "democracy." But really it is just uncivil, childish, immature, bad behavior.

GD primaries is a cesspool plain and simple. I don't read anything posted there anymore. I like both our candidates and feel bad that one has to lose. But neither one is as bad as they are made out to be in GD primaries.

I hope this who political season from the primaries on back is never archived, it would be a waste of disc space.

7. With all the nastiness on DU right now
I'm not sure the party CAN be pulled together in time to defeat McCain in Nov.
And that scares the hell out of me.

12. Agreed.
Very, very scary.

I had no idea the run up to the GEs were so nasty. Where the heck have I been all these years?

It's funny, I never used to care, until HRC announced her candidacy last year. Then I got 100% behind her, and still there

Please tell me that you don't think if ANY OTHER CANDIDATE was in 2nd place after being the 'presumptive' all that time, they wouldn't be "throwing in the kitchen sink" too? They would be. Anyone who thinks not is just a fool.

13. The people need the right to decide.

If Hillary doesn't have a good showing today than I do think she should back out gracefully and allow the party the chance to get behind Obama. If the people speak today and show they are still behind her then she should absolutely stay in the race.
But in any case, the nastiness and mud-slinging has to stop.
The only real enemy is McCain.

11. Right on...
I have seen it that way the whole time, I look at both Candidates have something positive and negative to add to the White House chair but we need to weed out the weak and become strong. This will be the time in history were Democrats and Congress are both in power over the Senate and House and White House.
Truly, I think we have goods with either one, but whom ever it is just support that maybe they will do the right thing when they are in office.

14. Both of Our Candidates are Weak Though, and Getting Weaker by the Day
Whoever limps across the finish line at the convention is going to be so badly damaged that winning in November will be difficult at best.
