23. didn't he also take money while Veep? |
|
I remember reading that. he was owed a bribe for something done while Gov. -- steering a contract toward a generous pal or something -- and actually took the money in the White House. Of course, he and Nixon ran on "law and order..." how quaint.

Isn't he actually the PRESIDENT. Don't get me wrong. His decisions suck. But any VeeP who actually wiggles his way into the Presidency is actually pretty kick ass.

11. Sorry guys, gotta disagree with the majority, here: |
|
Yes, Cheney is a corporate criminal and the incarnation of Dr Evil, but Agnew was worse. Agnew was a blatant racist (check his record as governor of MD), and was forced out of office under criminal indictment. Sometimes, our current rage seems to skew our perspective of history.
In reality, I think Aaron Burr (Jefferson's VP) should have made the list. This guy actually schemed with a foreign government to dismember the US and set him self up as an Emperor over the Western Territories. He was caught, but acquitted in a contentious vote by the Senate. Irregardless, he was booted and died in disgrace.

13. doubtful that Agnew was worse. |
|
He was an ass, no doubt. But how many VPs do you know that trade with the enemy? Cheney circumvented the US embargo in 1998 while CEO of Halliburton. His subsidiaries in Europe did business with Iraq to the tune of $24MM of profits.
Itaq has been quite good to Cheney, financially.

"Sometimes, our current rage seems to skew our perspective of history."
Naw.... that wouldn't ever happen....
Yeah, my first thought, when I saw this thread, was Aaron Burr. Thomas Jefferson might be an interesting option, seeing as he was not of the same party as his President, John Adams; they ended up running against each other in an incredibly nasty campaign that probably could match the current one. So if you factor in how loyal the VP was, Jefferson might be a contender. On the other hand, he was a very influential Senate President, I think.

He was uniquely corrupt and evil. If Cheney were ever charged with the corruption he should be, then he would bring greater shame to the office than Agnew.

I don't know how this man became vice president. I met him in person. He really is a dumb arrogant jerk. That's why Bush sr. must have chosen him. He reminded him of his son.

25. Agnew was worst VP in my opinion |
|
Agnew was chosen because he said things in public that Nixon felt he couldn't -- it wouldn't make him look 'presidential'. Agnew took money while he was in the White House. Grant's VP openly took money from people wanting government jobs; people that had stores near Army posts and on Indian reservations.
