David Boren as Veep?
Hey Everyone,
I apologize for cross posting but I just read about this on a local Democratic board here in Oklahoma. David Boren is a former Governor of Oklahoma and former U.S. Senator from Oklahoma (and the longest serving Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in that body's history)... I'm not suggesting he's a great choice... that's certainly up for debate... What do you think? Is it possible? Would it be helpful? and lastly, do you think Boren would give up his comfy fiefdom as President of the University of Oklahoma to do it?

Just food for thought... Here's the link... http://www.demookie.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8432

5. Well that would definitely settle the question, wouldn't it?
The question that the whole fucking game is rigged this year, that is.

Who's the guy who is responsible for Doonesbury:

Garry Trudeau.

A Skull and Bones man.

2. Interesting thought...don't see the advantage
Boren is a solid guy, but there is no way he can deliver Oklahoma, and ifKerry wants National Security credentials he can take Clark, and possible get Arkansas. Plus Clark is far better known.

3. good point...
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 04:41 PM by mgarretson
and since Clark won Oklahoma in the primaries he'd probably have about as much of a chance at Oklahoma as Boren and carry AR as well... Good point, again... I just think it's interesting because Boren's the President of my university and has repeatedly turned down opportunities to run for Governor again... all very interesting...

p.s. I'm a big-time Clark supporter.... Clarkies for Kerry!

6. I really hope not.
He would bring nothing to the ticket that would help us win. Kerry needs to suck it up and pick a strong VP who can really rally a crowd. He'll be the President come 1/05 so he should check his ego and go for strength, now someone who will make him look charismatic by comparison.

There are some problems with Boren. He's done a great job as president of the University of Oklahoma but.....

1. He's what you might call Zel Miller Lite. Not exactly energizing to the base.

2. There are some well known local rumors regarding his sexuality that might be embarassing. I know what you're thinking, but anyone who has followed Oklahoma politics on a state level are probably aware of what I'm talking about. Is it true? Who knows, but you can bet RoveCo. would be willing to float the idea in the media.

3. He's been out of politics for a decade.

4. Little charisma.

5. No way he delivers this state for Kerry. People are in love with Shit For Brains here.

8. Didn't he recently start associating with the Reform Party?
He would be a terrible choice, btw. Gephardt would be better than Boren, and I'm no big fan of Gephardt. BCCI, CIA, Anita Hill, the mind boggles . . .

9. dont know
heck I dont know much about him but Evan Bayh now sounds more appealing :puke:. BTW Bayh or Breaux IMO are prolly the worst ideas for VP IMO. Gephardt is so so, I would like him at labor secretary.

12. Boren is the jagoff that gave Clinton a hard time passing his 93 tax bill.
I wouldn't piss down his throat if his heart was on fire.
