Kerry Raises $50 million; Bush Tops it
Kerry Raises $50 Million, Bush Tops It
1 hour, 13 minutes ago

By SHARON THEIMER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - John Kerry (news - web sites) became the first Democratic hopeful to raise $50 million over three months while President Bush (news - web sites) set a record by topping that, officials said Friday.

The Kerry campaign announced that it raised more than half its money online from January through March, about $26.7 million, the most ever taken in by a presidential campaign over the Internet in one quarter.

The campaign plans to expand its grass-roots fund-raising efforts by running newspaper ads urging people to donate, starting with a full-page plea in The New York Times on Sunday. In addition, the bulk of Kerry's 20-city fund-raising tour is yet to come. Kerry raised millions this week during a two-day swing through California.

"We are experiencing sellout crowds at every gala," said Lou Susman, national finance chairman. Kerry's $50 million beats the Democratic record of $16 million raised in a quarter, set by Howard Dean (news - web sites) last year.

The Bush campaign, too, continues raising money at events, online and through direct-mail pitches. The campaign has not yet released an exact total for Bush's donations from January through March, but it said Bush had beat the presidential quarter record of $50 million he set with his fund raising from July through September last year.

2. The media wants us to doubt Kerry and plays up any bad spin.
We do a disservice to our goals in November whenever we fall for the spin, belabor it and spread it further.

Our mission should never waver - EXPOSE the spin and FIGHT it.

Kerry and the Democrats are doing WAY better than the media will tell you.

Haggard says he's unhappy with President Bush

The Associated Press
Published on: 04/02/04

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Country singer Merle Haggard says he's as red, white and blue as they come, but he's disappointed in the way President Bush has handled National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice's upcoming testimony before a panel probing the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Haggard, 66, has been critical in song and in interviews of the Iraq war and of what he views as an erosion of individual freedom.

"I certainly wasn't going to vote for Gore, so he is my man," Haggard said of Bush in an interview with The Associated Press, "but I'm not really all that happy with him."

On Thursday he cited the administration's flip flop on Rice's requested testimony to the Sept. 11 panel as another example of poor leadership.

"There have been some things, like saying no with Connie Rice to begin with and then having a White House reversal," Haggard said in a telephone interview from California. "I don't think a White House reversal looks good anytime."

The administration at first argued that Rice shouldn't testify publicly under oath before the commission because of an infringement on the division of powers between Congress and the White House.

7. Anyone wonder why the Bush campaign has not yet released its figures?
How do they know they raised more than Kerry's $50 if they seemingly have no figures to release, as yet? Hmmmmm...

9. Waiting for JK to release his figures to make sure they don't get beat
in the all important money game. How embarrassing for Bush that would be!
