1. Appropriate running mate
Since Kerry isn't a macho gunslinger like Bush when it comes to involvement in war, he should choose someone like Clarke or someone in the intelligence field. This should give the people confidence that Kerry will do virtually anything to protect this country. Kerry must start talking tough against bin Laden, etc.

2. If Kerry picked Richard Clarke it would discredit both of them.
Clarke has said repeatedly that he has no interest in the Kerry campaign, and has no job lined up with them, so he would be called a liar. While Kerry would be accused of setting the whole thing up as a campaign stunt and milking it. It would be a more disasterous move than even putting Gephardt on the ticket.

Now on the other hand, if Kerry wins, and asks Clarke to be a National Security adviser after the election, nobody can be accused of impropriety.

4. Kerry will choose the BEST candidate. No doubt about it.
He doesn't NEED someone else to bolster his creds intellectually, on strategy or military matters, so he has the luxury of choosing the RIGHT person....period.

10. I'm for Wes Clark
I agree that Kerry needs to pick someone with intelligence and some war experience to help him sort out the Iraq situation.

3. If she wanted him to announce soon..
she could have called him up. I don't understand why she announced what she was recommending to Kerry to the press.

5. She also says
"I think that it would be important to have a nominee by May 1," Pelosi said. Kerry's campaign has been vague about a timetable for the decision.

Pelosi also said that the selection of Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain would be "a gesture to bring the country together," but she said she had no reason to think that would happen.

Hello. McCain is a Republican. Why is the House Minority Leader giving McCain praise in the same breath as talking about Vice Presidential selection?

11. My best guess is she mentioned
McCain because the person who wrote the article asked her to comment on it..she's not going to diss McCain so she said something nice about him instead.

6. My hope is Wes Clark but
I won't cry if it were McCain.

I know he is a conservative republican, I know he can be two faced. I just don't care.

This is one more reason to hate W. Thanks to them I am willing to stoop to any means fair or foul.

Choose Pat Buchanon even. I just don't care.

Get this evil, evil, HORRIBLE administration out. By any means. If it takes a dem/rep to do it, fine.

Just. Get. Them. Out.

I see your comment, "I won't cry if it were McCain." I hear this a lot now.

13. I agree.
I'll keep telling myself that it's the top of the ticket that signs/vetoes bills, names court nominees, etc. McCain's only roles would be to attend foreign funerals, bring-in Arizona's 10EVs, and have a pulse.

Hell, I'd take Zell Miller, as much as I hate his guts. I'm just scared to death of more Scalia-bots on the Supreme Court.

7. Jim Johnson and the DNC will pick Kerry's running mate....
This however is an interesting move to have a woman politician making a selection statement about a Presidential candidate's running mate. What does it say about the candidate? What does it say to women voters?

9. John Kerry himself will pick his running mate
he will of course get advice from many people though. and they will do those private interviews with many of the possible choices. i think he should pick a southerner.

12. There seems to be some pressure..
on Kerry from more than a few Democrats to pick early.

I guess we will know by June if he took their advice.
