Hillary Clinton demands Opponent release His Tax Returns- NY Times
Three Months Into His Senate Campaign, Lazio Releases His Tax Returns

By CLIFFORD J. LEVY
Published: August 29, 2000
New York Times

Mr. Lazio pledged to release his tax returns soon after entering the Senate race in May, but had not done so, raising suspicions about whether he had the kind of financial problems that have tripped up other politicians in New York in recent decades.

The campaign of his Democratic opponent, Hillary Rodham Clinton, criticized the delay, asking whether he was hiding something. The State Democratic Party even sent a young campaign worker dressed as Uncle Sam to Mr. Lazio's campaign events, to shout at him to disclose the returns.

''Rick Lazio can't explain why it took three months to release his taxes,'' said Howard Wolfson, a Clinton campaign spokesman. ''Now he won't come clean with New Yorkers and reveal the real cost of his reckless trillion-dollar tax plan. It's time for Mr. Lazio to stop playing games and start talking straight.''

11. Will Obama release his tax return? so far it is only the summary page that he signed - plus a typed

Appears we can't handle the details that may show the Rezko bribes over the last 15 years.

75. PROBABLY THIS MINING DEAL MONEY( GIUSTRA & KAZAKHSTAN):
After Mining Deal, Financier Donated to Clinton

By JO BECKER and DON VAN NATTA Jr.
Published: January 31, 2008

Late on Sept. 6, 2005, a private plane carrying the Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra touched down in Almaty, a ruggedly picturesque city in southeast Kazakhstan. Several hundred miles to the west a fortune awaited: highly coveted deposits of uranium that could fuel nuclear reactors around the world. And Mr. Giustra was in hot pursuit of an exclusive deal to tap them.

Unlike more established competitors, Mr. Giustra was a newcomer to uranium mining in Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic. But what his fledgling company lacked in experience, it made up for in connections. Accompanying Mr. Giustra on his luxuriously appointed MD-87 jet that day was a former president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

-snip

snip

"Kazakhstan’s president, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev, whose 19-year stranglehold on the country has all but quashed political dissent."

"Mr. Nazarbayev walked away from the table with a propaganda coup, after Mr. Clinton expressed enthusiastic support for the Kazakh leader’s bid to head an international organization that monitors elections and supports democracy."

-snip

Just months after the Kazakh pact was finalized, Mr. Clinton’s charitable foundation received its own windfall: a $31.3 million donation from Mr. Giustra that had remained a secret until he acknowledged it last month. The gift, combined with Mr. Giustra’s more recent and public pledge to give the William J. Clinton Foundation an additional $100 million, secured Mr. Giustra a place in Mr. Clinton’s inner circle, an exclusive club of wealthy entrepreneurs in which friendship with the former president has its privileges.

43. UPDATE:Wolfson himself dressed up as Uncle Sam to heckle Clinton's rival Rick Lazio
Hillary Clinton's Biggest Backer

By SUSAN DOMINUS
Published: September 17, 2000
New York Times

In recent months, the team has been trying to focus public scrutiny on Lazio. Wolfson himself, along with a Democratic State Committee member dressed as Uncle Sam, showed up at a Lazio event in Harlem in August, taunting Lazio with the first lady's New York property tax returns and challenging him to release his returns. In any other campaign, it might have been the candidate who seized such a photo op; but with his boss invested in preserving her dignity, it occasionally falls to Wolfson to supply those moments.

44. There's also the debate issue
In the 2006 Senate race, Clinton had an antiwar challenger in the Democratic primary, Jonathan Tasini. She refused to debate him. The New York Times editorialized:

"She should change her mind. In a year when New York has very few competitive elections, voters are going to get very little chance to hear serious discussions from the candidates. Since Mr. Tasini is running an antiwar campaign, it would be very useful for New Yorkers to have a chance to hear the two Democratic candidates debate that one issue." (, August 21, 2006)

I thought of this when the Clinton campaign was trying to make such a big deal about debates, after she and Obama had been in more than a dozen already. Apparently, whether Democratic primary voters deserve to hear a debate depends on the circumstances.

77. And she refused to grant her unknown dem opponent any debates!

He lost because he didn't have the name recognition and couldn't fairly compete
without any debates. Hillary ignored his requests. What a hypocrite.

Let's see his tax returns and see what else he's hiding:

Before 2005, Obama's Charitable Giving Lagged Behind National Average

The Chicago Tribune (4/25, Secter, 617K) reports, "Giving, service and compassion are
but the Democratic presidential contender has only recently dug deep into his own pockets to support charitable causes." Obama "has enjoyed a robust household income throughout his political career in the Illinois Senate and the U.S. Senate.

But for most of that time he has reported comparatively little by national standards in charitable contributions on his tax returns, records released by Obama show." Obama's household income "has been inflated the last two years from the proceeds of lucrative book deals he signed shortly before entering the Senate in 2005. He pledged to turn over $200,000 of the book money to charity." On their "just-filed 2006 tax return, Obama and his wife, a hospital administrator, reported taxable income of $983,626 and claimed deductions for $60,307 in charitable donations.

In 2005 they earned a combined $1.65 million and gave away about $77,300." The "national average for charitable giving has long hovered at 2.2 percent of household income, according to the Glenview-based Giving USA Foundation, which tracks trends in philanthropy. Obama tax returns dating to 1997 show he fell well below that benchmark until 2005, the year he arrived in Washington."
