Props to the Hillary supporters at our caucus last night
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 10:56 PM by thevoiceofreason
I've been as rabid an Obama fan on these boards as any. I do, however, like to acknowledge situations where we once again recognize that we are all in the same boat.

West Houston, typically a very red area, where the precinct voted 2-1 democrat to republican. The small room we were allotted was overflowing (single digit historical turnout for caucuses replaced by hundreds of folks). Fairly balanced group between the candidates. I was elected chairman. Suggested and we selected a Hillary supporter as secretary. AND EVERYTHING WORKED OUT FINE. We agreed on procedure, double checked each other, and were able to get this gigantic crowd (for us, at least) in and out in a couple of hours. Obama had three more delegates than Hillary, but everyone left thinking there was hope for the fall, however it works out.

Hillary, your representatives last night did you proud. And reminded us all, we're all democrats when it comes down to it.

Mine was just a personal account of my precinct. I won't comment on the alleged suppression activities in the caucuses by folks elsewhere in Harris County. My understanding is there were 4 instances of law enforcement being called in Harris County (there might be more). In my precinct, we got along well.

For a pretty good list of how things went statewide, look here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=180&topic_id=49833&mesg_id=49833

Also, I recommend the Texas section of the States and Counties Forum

Interesting stories about Clinton fan convention chairs walking out with the papers before everyone could sign in, etc. I think it was mainly a result of many new participants, unpaid and undertrained volunteers, strident demands by each campaign to "keep the other side from cheating," etc. My point is that when folks were inclusive (getting both sides involved in the entire process), things went better. It's the 5% of the total where things got wacky.

8. The ones at the caucus I worked in San Antonio were great too.
I'm an Arizonan who did volunteered for both the NV and TX caucuses. The Clinton people in NV were right assholes. I was bracing myself for more of the same in TX but the supporters last night were terrific. They made a point of being hospitable and fair. When it appeared that Obama wasn't going to get any delegates in one of the precincts, despite getting 45% of the vote and because of the caucus math, the Clinton guy who was the caucus chair insisted on calling both the Clinton and Obama lawyers to check and see if that was the case.
