My god. The weak at the knees Democrats are doing it to themselves again.

Caving in the face of the slightest breeze.

Let the primary system work.

Let people vote.

1. No. The Dem primaries need to play out so that no MORE voters..........
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 12:35 AM by Double T
are disenfranchised as they have been in Florida and Michigan. The DNC is our own worst enemy. McCain can NOT be allowed to take the Presidency and HRC is the ONLY one that will make certain that does NOT happen!

3. They ALL VOTE, but few matter. I've been saying this all along.
I lived in Pgh. Pa. for 42 years and my primary vote NEVER mattered. The candidate was always chonse by the time the primaries got to us. Even in TX, SC & Ga, I never felt MY VOTE made a damn bit of difference!

FL & MI both were tired of that, but they did the wrong thing. They both could easily have joined the Super Tuesday crowd, but decided to be renegades. My suggestion is for them to vote the idiots out of your local Dem party leadership. THEY were the ones who screwed things up for you.

5. So true. Hillary needs to stay in it simply on that basis alone. Each state should count!

6. And each vote should be counted the same
If the winner of the popular vote is not the winner of delegates than something is wrong.

If black votes in TX is worth twice that of a Latino vote in TX, than something is wrong.

11. I am a liberal. We, liberals express our concerns beyond our immediate
circles. One does not have to belong to an oppressed group to realize the injustice of it.

10. I lived there as well
I remember D Lawrence, who picked the candidates and told us who to vote for. I'm sure glad those days are gone, an Pa voters get a say. Everyone should vote, and everyone's vote should be counted.

4. All state primaries should be held on the same day with straight up voting.......
so that candidates like obama can't manipulate the voting as they have done in the caucuses.

7. Well that..
Would totally favor the candidate with the most money and name recognition out of the box. The strength of a long primary season like we are witnessing is that we have seen the many sides of the two candidates in this case and have a clearer picture of who they are.

And I've never in 20 years of following politics heard as much griping about the caucus system until this year because a certain someone's candidate elected to ignore them completely as a STRATEGY.

Genius.

18. I'm of the opinion
that they could keep the staggered schedule because of the financial and logistical issues, but they should seal all results until all the states have finished voting.

9. I think McCain is the most beatable Republican since Gerald Ford
Bob Dole was more of an electoral threat because at least Dole was liked and respected by his own party.

But if the Dems are fighting each other until the end of goddamn August, it won't matter.

An extended primary is fine. A never-ending primary is dangerous. Right now, we staring the face of a never-ending primary.

14. Take a chill pill boss
Nobody is hurt by all votes being cast and counted. Pa deserves to get some attention, just like the other states. The voting schedule should be rotated so the same states don't get to go first all the time, it's called fairness.

How do you prove you can beat McCain in March when you haven't proven you get beat the other person in the Party yet?

22. They Should Both Campaign Against McCain Now
That will show us what they've got and which one we want at the top of the ticket.

A shotgun wedding may be the only way to bring the party together.

13. make a big ole story up as a truth? to demand all get to vote
fine with me, i dont care, waste money, let hillary and obama beat each other up. i often lived in states where the primary never made it to me. i understood why. a little disappointed but reality. i see many more benefits in ending it too

16. I'd rather not get a say and WIN the WH then get a say and lose the WH, and I live in PA
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 01:34 AM by ShadowLiberal
I live in PA, and unlike most people I'm feeling very depressed and furious right now that our votes are actually going to matter, because of the extremely high cost of it.

I do not want to see Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama slam each other over the heads with negative attacks for the next 7 weeks and watch their polling numbers against McCain plummet, and with it all hope of us recapturing the white house.

Take a look at what the republicans are saying, there's a reason why Rush was saying "go and vote for Hillary", it's not because he wants to face her in a GE (well alright, it's kind of that partially), it's because he wants us to keep on fighting each other and arguing "I'm more liberal then you", and painting each other as scumbag political insiders while McCain goes around saying "This is why I'm the right candidate for all of America".

Seriously, ever hear of the saying "pride comes before a fall", I've felt very pessimistic about our chances of capturing the white house all year long for a variety of reasons, the high arrogance among democrats that the white house is a lock for us this year no matter who we nominate is at the top of my list of those reasons.

21. Why do you have two nearly identical threads with the same exact message?
There's no problem with letting the process test our candidates and letting as many people have their say until the returns of that are clearly in opposition to the possibility for alteration of the final verdict.

The problem is that it is up to the candidates to determine how much the continuation of this process is damaging to our overall process, and right now, that ain't looking too pretty.

It's one thing to test the other candidate, but it's another thing to set up attack channels in the gutters. And it's certainly another thing altogether to attempt the sort of extra-legal, subversion of the process, my win over all other considerations end around that Hillary is attempting by trying to jam through the Florida and Michigan "results".

It's that type of behavior that will keep me from being able to even shoe leather campaign for the party in the GE if she somehow manages to pull the nomination off. I can't ask people and encourage people to vote for a candidate that I don't believe in. I wasn't crazy about Kerry, but I at least respected him as a candidate of honor- and that made me a much more effective street asset, trust me.
