Hillary will be in Mississippi tomorrow night!
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 01:33 AM by Maddy McCall
She's going to speak at the annual Jefferson Jackson Hamer Democratic dinner in Canton, Mississippi. So she's not giving up on the state, contrary to what some may think. Bill's planning to visit the state Friday.

I know that Obama has opened an office in Jackson, MS. I've seen a few Obama bumper stickers and Clinton bumper stickers, too! Don't know which way it'll go, but it feels good to see Mississippi matter in a Democratic primary.

Edited to add this info:

Sen. Clinton will be the keynote speaker at the Mississippi Democratic Party Jefferson Jackson Hamer Day Dinner, according to senior adviser Burns Strider.

“There is no other place she'd rather be,” Strider said in a statement to the media.

The event is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Canton Multipurpose & Equine Center.

The Clinton campaign announced earlier today that Bill Clinton will be in Hattiesburg, Meridian and Tupelo on Friday to campaign for his wife.

Hillary Clinton, a U.S. Senator from New York, won key primaries Tuesday night in Ohio and Texas. She is locked in a tight race with Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.

Mississippi’s Republican and Democratic presidential primaries are Tuesday. Sen. John McCain of Arizona won the Republican nomination Tuesday night.

McCain and Obama visited Mississippi last year. Sen. Clinton has not campaigned in the state.

A spokesman for Obama said he will not attend the state Democratic Party's 26th Annual Jefferson Jackson Hamer Day Dinner Thursday in Canton.

He and Sen. Clinton were both invited to attend.

2. MS was 56% African American in 2004
If Obama gets 90% of that vote, that puts him at 49% already.

12. We have an open primary. Expect that percentage to be a lot lower this year.
Because Republicans will cross over and vote on the Democratic ticket, with this year's Democratic race being so highly contested.

This year it's highly contested. Republicans WILL cross over. In droves.

29. Not at all. It's just a fact in states with open primaries. Mississippi is one.
Either has a chance to carry Mississippi in the primary...Obama probably will.

In the GE, Mississippi will remain red, though.

4. Ask her to explain this
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 01:39 AM by merh
When Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) suggested that Mississippi is the lowest of the low when it comes to state-by-state comparisons, she may have bruised some feelings there.

In an interview with the Des Moines Register’s David Yepsen today, she said she was surprised that Iowa, like Mississippi, had never elected a woman governor, senator or member of Congress.

"I was shocked when I learned Iowa and Mississippi have never elected a woman governor, senator or member of Congress. There has got to be something at work here," she said.

“How can Iowa be ranked with Mississippi?" she asked, suggesting that Iowa is too good for that. "That's not the quality. That's not the communitarianism, that's not the openness I see in Iowa."

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2007/10/clintons_mississippi_putdown_r.html

And ask her why individuals were not allowed any of the money that the Bush/Clinton Katrina fund raised. And for that matter, what has she done or does she intend to do - she is the Chair of the Committee that is responsible for investigating toxic health concerns. Why hasn't she called for a hearing on the FEMA trailers? Will she support the all perils legislation that will come before the senate soon?

Seriously, she has a lot of explaining to do as far as this Mississippian is concerned.

I've had 3 surgeries in 2 years. Get as much rest as possible, especially in the months after, whenever your body and mind need it.

I had major neck and hysterectomy / cancer surgery. My doctor told me that even one surgery like like can take a year to feel 100%.

Take care.

This Mississippian recognizes an old boy network when I see one, Gandy and Tuck(yuck) notwithstanding, and Iowa should be ashamed to have never sent a woman to Congress and ashamed to share that distinction with a state run by Haley Fucking Barbour.

32. Sure you do - she has to try to make nice
and explain away that comment.

I wish I could be there, I'd ask her why she hasn't held hearings yet on the FEMA trailers. After all, she is the chair for the Subcommittee on Superfund and Environmental Health and the jurisdiction for that subcommittee is as follows:

· Superfund and Brownfields · Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), including recycling, Federal facilities and interstate waste · Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) · Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) · Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) · Environmental Justice · Risk Assessment

She campaigns on health concerns yet she hasn't paid much attention to some serious concerns that tens of thousands that lived in the toxic trailers have. I lived in one for 25 months, I'm concerned and I want to know my government cares.
