"Automatic" delegates, eh? |
|
As we all know perfectly well, the term "automatic delegates" is bullshit Luntz-ian Newspeak for the term "super delegates," which has been introduced recently by a certain campaign who shall remain nameless. My question is, in what way is this term supposed to be a preferable euphemism for super delegates?
For example, calling the estate tax the "death tax" is an effective bullshit euphemism, since the number of people who die is greater than the number of people who have sprawling country mansions (which is how a lot of the uninformed define "estate"), so many people react to the word "death," where "estate" might not get as much of a rise out of them. But how is the term "automatic" as opposed to "super" supposed to change peoples' perceptions of these delegates? What's it supposed to imply?

4. They're not "automatic" at all |
|
But the campaign that shall remain nameless keeps calling them that. Why? What's it supposed to make us believe that we don't believe when they're called "super delegates"?

I'm just curious as to what the proponents of this term think they're going to accomplish with it, and why they think that.

11. No joke, and it's been up for a long time. |

I'm waiting for one Clinton supporter to defend it. As far as I know the MSM hasn't even mentioned the site.
