Wouldn't Obama Be Favored To Win A Michigan Redo? |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 03:44 PM by malik flavors
Don't they have a pretty large A-A population there that makes up a large percentage of the democtatic vote? Most people didn't go out in the snow to vote in a primary that didn't count last time, but if people came out in full force I'd have to think Obama would be more likely to win there. Which isn't to suggest he needs A-As to win a primary, because we know that's not the case, but it does help when they're plentiful.

3. It would be interestring |
|
It would be blue collar types against AmAfs and College kids.
The deomgraphics are a little different than Ohio and I think it wouldbe close....but I also think Hillary wins.
But since Obama was not in the first primary, I think he ultimately is more advantaged,

5. You're assuming that JJ won Michigan b/c he's black |
|
or that his race helped him in some way. I don't think it did. The second part of your assumption is that since Michigan voted for JJ and JJ is black, that they will vote for Obama b/c Obama is black.
The fact is JJ is very pro-labor, has a strong pro-labor, pro-union record. He's walked the picket lines, negotiated on worker's behalf. He has the record. He connected with the working class in a way that Obama doesn't (or hasn't managed to so far) and he had lots of creibility in that area. Has nothing to do with race.

7. I base that on the fact that Obama gets 85% of the A-A vote. |
|
You can come to whatever conclusion you like as to why that is.

because he had strong labor credentials, not because black voters carried him.
Obama isn't going to win Michigan on the strength of the black vote. Blacks are only about 15% of the population. If he wins it's going to be because he connects with blue collar types.

6. Yes, but think of it like this... |
|
44% of michigan democrats showed up just to vote AGAINST HRC as uncommitted. That speaks volumes, IMO.

14. That happened, in part, because Conyers launched a campaign to protect MI voters. |
|
The point was to get votes for Uncommitted delegates to be available at the convention if MI was seated, since Obama and Edwards had removed their names from the ballot. Conyers and his wife worked hard to get the uncommitted vote out.

backfire on her. Things have changed since the last vote. Obama could end up upsetting her.
