2. Florida Governor Victimized By Even More Unsubstantiated Gay Rumors
It is indeed a sad day in America when a "heterosexual" man can't hang out all the time with his many gay friends at a local gay bar acting "very feminine" without somehow getting accused of gayness. And yet that is precisely the position gay Florida governor Charlie Crist confronts as one of the nation's most rumor-dogged opponents of gay marriage. The owner of the Green Iguana bar in Tampa now says that back in the early 90s, when Crist had just begun his political career, the future governor frequented this very gay bar and felt right at home.

<snip>

* One rumored ex-boyfriend of Crist's served as regional director for Kitty Harris' delusional, delightful U.S. Senate campaign.
* Another rumored ex-boyfriend is also an ex-felon.
* Crist is linked to a "wealthy socialite from the Hamptons" named Jennifer Faga.
* If John McCain asks Charlie Crist to be his running mate, nobody will care about any of this completely pointless, stupid, sleazy, and wrongheaded speculation.

Gov. Crist To GOP: Stop Spending Money On Anti-Gay Marriage Initiative

ARE YOU LISTENING GOVERNOR DANIELS?
At least one Republican governor in the country, Florida Gov. Charlies Crist, is telling his fellow Republicans to get their priorities straight and stop spending money pushing anti-gay marriage initiatives. Although Crist supported the initiative efforts in the past, he's had a change of heart since becoming the state's governor. The Miami Herald's Marc Caputo writes:

Republican Gov. Charlie Crist said today his political party should spend its time and money on issues that are ''more pressing'' than the anti-gay marriage initiative it has funded for the past two years.

<snip>

Crist signed the petition and publicly endorsed the measure. Beyond that, though, he says he has other things to worry about.

<snip>

Mat Staver, an attorney who argued for the amendment before the Florida Supreme Court, said Crist's statement was not a retreat from his pledge of support for the amendment. But he thinks Crist is wrong about whether the amendment is a priority.

Is Charlie Crist gay?

"Is Charlie Crist gay?", asks the Orlando Weekly.

Why does it matter? Isn't his personal business? As a commentor at BlogActive notes:

Because you support a political platform which defines homosexuals such as Charlie Crist as belonging to a dangerous 'lifestyle' and a threat to children. And you support a Party which is currently trying to add anti-gay discrimination into the Constitution of the United States of America. Hello.

Charlie Crist's materials say:
When the institution of marriage was under attack, Attorney General Charlie Crist successfully defended Florida's Defense of Marriage Act. Charlie strongly supports Second Amendment rights and advocates policies that strengthen Florida families.

Mike Rogers of BlogActive took him at his word and called the Crist campaign and asked about adoption. "He believes that the best home for a child is one with a mother and father. He will not support a repeal of Florida's ban on gay adoptions."

This has pissed Mike off and he is asking people to come forward about Crist's "lifestye choices".

Charlie Crist, meet Mark Foley

<snip>

Crist has danced around whether he favors repealing Florida's uniquely cruel ban on single gay adults adopting children, and whether he favors basic non-discrimination legislation. But he has come out in favor of hate crime laws and school bullying protections that specifically target anti-gay harassment.

That gay rights record is in the same ballpark as another closeted Florida Republican: disgraced Congressman Mark Foley. In fact, the two have known each other for decades. The thumbnail photo here was snapped by Ocala Pride, an ironically named non-gay publication in Ocala, Fla.

<snip>

As Linn has pointed out, every time Crist gets "the question," he's been asked, "Are you gay?" (or a homo). No one has asked if he's bisexual. If he is, or if that's his story and he's sticking to it, then his answers are Clintonian half-truths, he of the drug-use denial: "I have never broken the laws of this country" (turns out he smoked pot, but famously never inhaled, in England); and "I never had sex with that woman" (turns out he didn't consider fellatio to be oral sex).

But Crist's mixed gay rights record, and backing from anti-gay Christian conservatives, isn't the only basis for raising his sexual orientation as a legitmate campaign issue. As Floridians have seen up close and personal with Foley-gate, secrets surrounding sexual orientation can have a debilitating effect on the judgment of their elected officials.

11. If he were bright, he'd avoid anti-gay legislation, and say of the rumors
"Yes, I've had gay friends and also visited gay bars. I'm not biased against gay people, nor do I feel threatened by being around them."

It would be a statement that couldn't be used against him later if he did turn out to be gay.

Of course, if he were bright, he wouldn't be a Republican.

12. Many people believe Crist is gay. Nobody believes he is bright.
:D

Actually, Crist hasn't been nearly as much of a disaster as bush was, although that's a very low bar.

13. Yes, I have gay friends and have even visited gay bars. That was many many years ago, but I must
admit that the gay bars were a real blast. Those folks knew how to have fun and party.

The floor show consisted of six or seven different female impersonater acts who looked more like stunningly beautiful women than stunningly beautiful women do...

Never saw anything untoward, except for the two guys dressed in drag in the ladies room... That was a little off-putting.

Disclaimer: I am not a political figure, thus have no problem with this disclosure. I can say with perfect truth that homosexuals are people just like heterosexuals are. Some are terrific people, some as punks, some are mediocre, some are the pits of the earth. Some have been friends who departed this plane of existence far too soon.

17. Not unless it was Long Island Iced Tea... and even then it was done elegantly... no nasty swearing.
The gays I knew were into the arts, acting, dancing, sculpture, painting, costume design, interior design, etc.

They were sophosticates who enjoyed double and triple entendres, but rarely used foul language.

But then, I moved in artistic circles in my younger years.

20. This was the seventies... There was none of that. The place was called
Producers. It was in, of all places, Jacksonville, Florida. They had real silver on the tables and real crystal glassware. Tre chic!

They also had strict rules about dress and behavior... It was, after all, the seventies and the south.

The place shut down abruptly. I was told the Mafia had something to do with that, but I don't know for sure. It could have been any number of groups that shut them down or even poor management...

I was sorry to see it fold.

22. If this ASSHOLE is so concerned about the people's voices being heard....
Then why the fuck did he go ahead and move up the primary when the DNC told him that as a result his state's delegates wouldn't be seated??? What a fucking prick this guy is.

Now he's trying to back pedal and say the people's voices must be heard. How convenient that he's all about the people NOW. Where were you when they needed you in February, you jerk.
