New attacks coming on Kerry
I still don't like Kerry as the annointed one for the democratic party, but I also don't like seeing these attacks because it hurts the party as a whole. I was sent this by a pro-Bush relative(gag). Is there any truth to this story at all, and how do we counter it?

B.G. Burkett: Navy Commanders to Cast Doubt on Kerry's War Record

Several Navy officers who supervised Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry when he commanded a swift boat in Vietnam are preparing to publicly question his war record - including the circumstances under which he was awarded three Purple Hearts - a noted Vietnam War historian revealed on Sunday.

Burkett, whose 1999 book, "Stolen Valor," is considered to be the definitive history of of falsified Vietnam War claims, told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg that Kerry's former commanders would allege that the top Democrat's Purple Hearts were awarded for "self-reported injuries that were virtually nonexistent."

"He never got a day of treatment, he never spent a day in a medical facility," Burkett said. "These were all self-reported wounds, which you're going to hear from some swift boat guys in the future as to the nature of those wounds."

Burkett said he had personally spoken to the Navy commanders who were preparing to go public about Kerry's decorations.

"You're going to get quite a showing ," Burkett told Malzberg. "I don't know yet. They're trying to get it to be unanimous of every swift boat guy who ever served."

As to the timetable for the upcoming revelations, Burkett said that Kerry's superior officers "were still discussing that."

"You've got some major rallys being planned against John Kerry by Vietnam veterans on the mall, at the convention - this type of thing," he said. "And we're going to make America aware of John Kerry's military record."

6. They didn't give me a link.
All it takes is for people to start throwing around allegations like this. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, repeating it endlessly will stick with some people. If it's not true, then Kerry's campaign needs to get on it right away.

kerry doesn't have to respond to this shit. they have a bunch of lying emails going around on kerry. this is from people who make shit up to attack him, not from people who are concerned with facts.

2. he was elected , not annointed
especially iowa and new hampshire was mostly himself. anyone who wins those would have got momentum. which is why everyone starts off in those states rather than california or new york. kerry did what he had to do to win, which is get people's votes and therefore be elected the nominee.

14. Exactly. Bush was annointed. Dean was almost annointed. Kerry
came from miles behind to win election after election and win the nomination with few major endorsements of party leaders until after he started winning.

Like him or not, he won.

4. snopes
Claim: John Kerry's Vietnam War service medals (a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts) were earned under "fishy" circumstances.

Status: False.

16. Wow, that's amazing. I hope this story does get circulated.
I'd love to see heroism and military service become the issue. I'd love to see this telling of Kerry's service matched against Bush's. Hell, compare Kerry to the story of Bush's father's "heroism," and the Bushes come up lacking.

5. Kerry's page
Actually addresses this to some extent. Anyone injured after a certain point got a Purple Heart, regardless of severity or if they missed days for it. A lot of people had 'walking injuries' where they were bandaged and still served. Check out www.johnkerry.com, it's on there...

"And we're going to make America aware of John Kerry's military record."

Yes, please do. It's quite a stirring story. Make sure the guy who's life John saved(and is a republican) is there, he tells it the best.

That's where your relative got the article.
Newsmax isn't news -- it's right-wing talking points.

11. Bush/Rove can't be that stupid
Bush making an issue of military service? Please, let it happen.

This is just normal Bush family strategy. Bushes have no ideology, no plans, and absolutely no success record in either business or politics to point to, so they smear their opponents. Bush Daddy did it to Yarborough in the 1970 senate race, and to Carter, Reagan (remember, Reagan hated Bush so badly he voted against him, and may have blamed him for the assassination attempt), Dukakis, Gary Hart, his own party's primary opponents, Ross Perot and Clinton. W has done the same to Ann Richards (even claiming she was the lesbian lover of the Roe v Wade attorney), Gary Mauro, John McCain, and Al Gore.

Either every single person of either party who has run against a Bush is an unstable, delusional, lying criminal, or the Bushes slander a lot. You decide.
